Abstract

One of the persistent challenges in education is the lack of innovation in teaching materials. Conventional textbooks often fail to connect scientific content with real-world environmental issues, contributing to students’ low levels of scientific literacy. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a socio-scientific issue (SSI)-based booklet integrated with Islamic values in enhancing students’ scientific literacy. Utilizing the Borg & Gall research and development model, the study employed purposive sampling involving 33 students from class VIIF at MTs Nurul Huda Tarub. Data were collected through questionnaires and literacy tests. Expert validation and effectiveness analyses were conducted using expert judgment and paired sample t-tests, respectively. The booklet received high validation scores: 96% from material experts, 97% from media experts, 97% from educators for practicality, and 98% from student evaluations. The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant improvement in scientific literacy post-intervention. The findings affirm that the developed booklet is highly valid and effective in promoting students' scientific literacy. This suggests that embedding Islamic values within SSI-based learning materials can foster more contextual, meaningful, and character-building science education, supporting the holistic development of students’ scientific reasoning and religious awarenessKeywords: booklet, integrated islamic values, scientific literacy.

Abstract

Abstract: This article explores the relevance of classical theories, particularly behaviorism, in the context of modern education and student character formation. Behaviorism, which emphasizes the observation of behavior as a result of stimulus and response, provides a solid foundation for developing effective educational strategies. Through the application of behaviorist principles, such as positive reinforcement and experience-based learning, this article identifies ways in which this approach can be used to shape student character in a challenging modern era. The research subjects consist of fifth-grade students and teachers at Al Azhar Elementary School in Medan. The results indicate that behaviorist theory is reflected in activities such as praying before and after lessons, memorizing Qur’anic verses, implementing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) models, and engaging with interactive learning games. This aligns with behavioristic learning theories, from connectionism and classical conditioning to contiguity and operant conditioning. It can be concluded that although behaviorism originates from a different context, its principles remain relevant and adaptable to meet educational goals in the modern era, especially in shaping student character. Additionally, more creative and open approaches to critical thinking can complement the effectiveness of behaviorism in learning, such as gamified learning applications, e-learning, and adaptive learning. Keyword: Relevance of Classical Theory, Application of Behaviorist Theory, Character Building Abstrak: Artikel ini mengeksplorasi relevansi teori klasik, khususnya teori behaviorisme, dalam konteks pendidikan modern dan pembentukan karakter siswa. Abstract

This research identifies persistent barriers to social rejection and discrimination that continue to limit opportunities for participation and acceptance in society. This study investigates how specific dimensions of social presence, namely social engagement, social acceptance, and participation opportunities, affect the quality of life of individuals with disabilities. The study used a quantitative descriptive approach by collecting data from 30 students with disabilities through a structured questionnaire measuring social engagement, social acceptance, and participation opportunities. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, including Pearson correlation and simple linear regression, to assess the predictive power of social presence on quality of life. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between higher levels of social presence and improved quality of life, with social engagement emerging as the strongest predictor among the measured variables. Interventions targeted at increasing social participation and reducing discrimination can significantly improve the well-being of people with disabilities in society. This research makes an empirical contribution to the literature on disability and social inclusion. It offers evidence-based evidence for developing policies and intervention programs more responsive to the social needs of people with disabilities.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is an important cognitive skill in learning. The aims to analyze students' problem-solving ability based on Bransford-Stein theory by considering the Adversity Quotient (AQ) factor. The research method used is a quantitative method with simple linear regression analysis. Data were collected through problem-solving tests and administering adversity quotient (AQ) questionnaires. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling technique and obtained 100 high school students selected based on different AQ categories (climbers, campers, quitters). The results of the simple linear regression analysis showed that AQ had a significant effect on the level of students' problem-solving ability. Each increase in one unit of AQ will increase the problem solviing by 1,867 units. The R² value is 0.5506, which means that 55.06% of the variability of problem solving ability can be explained by AQ. This shows that students with high AQ tend to be more persistent in solving problems systematically. Reviewed Based on the five Bransford-Stein indicators (IDEAL Problem solving), students with high AQ (climbers) have a better level of problem-solving ability compared to students with medium AQ types (campers) and low AQ types (quitters). Students with the climbers type can solve all five problem-solving indicators in the questions very well. Campers type students have fairly good problem-solving abilities, but can only solve questions up to three Bransford-Stein indicators. Quitter type students can only solve one Bransford-Stein indicator well. The results of this study can provide input for educators in designing appropriate learning strategies, so that they can improve students' problem-solving abilities by considering their psychological factors, especially adversity quotient. This study only examines correlation, without testing causal relationships through experimental interventions.

Abstract

Developing a scale of interpersonal communication for Muslim students in Indonesia is very important because of the unique cultural and religious context that these students live in. Effective interpersonal communication is essential to fostering a supportive educational environment, improving peer relationships, and improving students' overall well-being. Currently there are no published research findings that specifically discuss measuring interpersonal communication among Muslim students in Indonesia. Therefore, this research aims to develop a valid and reliable Muslim Student Interpersonal Communication Scale (MSICS). MSICS was developed based on five aspects: openness, empathy, supportiveness, positivity, and equality. Content validity was assessed by two psychometric experts, and the results were analyzed using an inter-rater agreement model. Construct validity involved 432 Muslim junior high school students in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia, and the data was analyzed using the Rasch model. The results of the interrater agreement model analysis show that there is agreement between two psychometric experts regarding the acceptability of the statement items in the MSICS. Furthermore, the Rasch model analysis shows that the MSICS appears as a valid and reliable instrument for assessing the level of interpersonal communication among Muslim students in junior high schools in Indonesia with a variance explained by measures value of 26,7% (>20%), which means good enough to describe the measured data, and the reliability value is 0,91, which means very good. The results of this research can be used by counselors or guidance and counseling teachers to use MSICS as an instrument to measure Muslim students' interpersonal communication.

Abstract

Character strength is the basis of our identity, it can be seen when we express this strength of character through thoughts and actions. The truly wonderful thing about character strengths is that they can contribute to personal well-being, the quality of relationships, and the personal community as a whole. For example, curiosity helps explore new ideas, people, places and so on. As well as making it possible to collaborate on projects and see the value of each person's contribution and the courage to help yourself get out of your comfort zone, and be able to challenge yourself. Therefore, the role of the guidance and counseling teacher is very important in increasing students' curiosity, especially in terms of education, which shows that we tend to feel happier, more connected, and more productive. Counseling teachers teach students to always have a high curiosity by exploring new things, creating new ideas, and always generating new innovations.

Abstract

Electromagnetic radar technology has become integral in various innovations, such as military, air navigation, and weather monitoring. However, the ability of radar to detect objects accurately creates vulnerability to detection by other parties, raising security and confidentiality issues. Therefore, the development of electromagnetic absorber material technology is becoming increasingly important, especially in the military. One promising effort is using smart magnetic pigments as electromagnetic wave absorber materials. This material can be synthesized from metal waste and iron sand, which have high permeability and permittivity. However, synthesizing effective and economical smart magnetic materials is still challenging. Iron sand is one of the potentially abundant material solutions. This study aims to synthesize and characterize smart magnetic pigments ( ) from iron sand and silica ( ) from water hyacinth ash as electromagnetic wave absorber materials. The methods used include the extraction of silica from water hyacinth by a slow heating method at high temperatures and the synthesis of magnetite from iron sand by the coprecipitation method. The resulting material was then composited into an Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR) matrix and tested for electromagnetic wave absorption. The developed composite material has a porous structure (3.63 µm, porosity 15.746%) with synergistic properties between dielectric and   ferromagnetic. The Si-O-Si and Fe-O functional groups (FTIR) and the crystal phases , Cristobalite, and Butlerite (XRD) strengthen the material interactions. This combination of characteristics proves that the composite material can absorb and dampen electromagnetic waves.
