Abstract

Adolescent identity crisis poses risks of leading youths toward negative behaviors such as depression, delinquency, and substance abuse. This design initiative aims to develop a motion comic as an educational tool for teenagers to navigate their self-identity. Employing Design Thinking, the process involves qualitative methods including 5W+1H analysis, interviews, literature review, document analysis, and online research. The motion comic, "Bima and Dewa Ruci," underwent alpha and beta testing for addressing adolescent identity crisis. Findings suggest that while the motion comic can aid learning, it falls short in inducing significant psychological and character changes. Further refinement is necessary for optimal effectiveness. This study emphasizes the potential of motion comics as supplementary educational resources in understanding and addressing adolescent identity crises.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women remains a serious public health challenge due to its impact on both maternal and fetal health, ranging from delivery complications and anemia to the risk of low birth weight (LBW) and stunting. Data from the Tolitoli District Health Office in 2023 reported 406 cases of CED among pregnant women, with the highest prevalence (19.2%) found in Baolan Subdistrict. This condition highlights the need to strengthen the role of community health cadres in early detection and nutritional support for pregnant women. This Community Service Program aimed to improve cadres’ knowledge and skills in monitoring maternal nutritional status through simple anthropometric measurements (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference, body weight, and height). The activity was conducted in Buntuna Village, within the working area of Baolan Health Center, Tolitoli District, on July 30, 2025, involving 18 health cadres. The methods included education using presentations and booklets, a question-and-answer session, and hands-on practice of anthropometric measurements. Knowledge was assessed using pre- and post-tests with questionnaires, while skills were observed using a checklist-based assessment. The post-test results indicated a significant improvement in knowledge from 40% to 86%, while skills increased from 11% to 100%. Prior to the intervention, only two cadres were skilled, but after training, all participants were able to perform measurements accurately. These findings demonstrate that practice-based training is effective in strengthening cadre capacity and has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of CED prevention programs at the community level.

Abstract

Food colorant plays a vital role in the food industry by enhancing visual appeal and shaping consumer perception of product quality. Synthetic food dyes, though commonly used, have been linked to various health concerns such as allergies, hyperactivity in children, and potential carcinogenic risks when consumed above the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI). Therefore, natural and safe alternatives are needed. This study investigates the potential use of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus sp.) peel extract as a natural food colorant and antioxidant source, using maceration extraction with varying concentrations of tartaric acid (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%). Parameters evaluated include physical properties (yield and color intensity), chemical characteristics (pH and total anthocyanins), antioxidant activity, and food processing simulations (thermal stability, pH effects on color, and solvent solubility). The results showed that 4% tartaric acid yielded the highest extraction output, color intensity (absorbance 2.774), highest total anthocyanin, and antioxidant activity (84.06%), with optimal color stability at temperatures up to 40°C and at pH 3. The extract showed excellent solubility in water (97.41%) and 15% ethanol (96.40%), while being insoluble in oil. These results indicate that red dragon fruit peel extract has great potential as a natural dye that not only provides an attractive red color but also functions as a natural antioxidant that is safe and stable under various food processing conditions.

Abstract

Tabebuia aurea has been recognized for its traditional medicinal applications and promising antioxidant properties. The research addresses a gap in understanding the phytochemical and antioxidant characteristics of T. aurea in Indonesia. This study aims to conduct phytochemical screening and evaluate the antioxidant activity of T. aurea stem extracts. The stems of T. aurea were collected from the Botanical Garden of the Sumatra Institute of Technology and authenticated at the Bogoriense-BRIN Herbarium in Bogor to ensure the accuracy of the plant species. The samples were cleaned and dried indoors to prevent the degradation of active compounds before being ground into fine simplicia powder. The extraction process was carried out through maceration utilizing different solvents, including methanol, aquadest, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of tannins in the methanol extract. The aquadest extract contains tannins, terpenoids, and flavonoids. Phytochemical screening indicated that the ethyl acetate extract comprises alkaloids and flavonoids, while the n-hexane extract contains alkaloids and saponins. An antioxidant assay using the DPPH method shows that T. aurea stem extracts exhibit a significant ability to scavenge free radicals. Methanol extract has IC50 value of 51.24 μg/mL (strong), aquadest extract has IC50 of 65.34 μg/mL (strong), ethyl acetate extract has IC50 of 79.88 μg/mL (strong), and n-hexane extract has IC50 of 256.73 μg/mL (very weak). For comparison, the vitamin C control has an IC50 of 43.95 μg/mL (very strong). The findings of this study demonstrate that the extract from the stem of Tabebuia aurea contains bioactive compounds with potential as a natural antioxidant source. This antioxidant property highlights the potential of T. aurea stem as a valuable raw material for developing health and cosmetic products that leverage its antioxidant capabilities.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a public health problem in Indonesia, including in Palu City, Central Sulawesi, with prevalence increasing from 23.9% to 24.7% in 2022, remaining below the national target for stunting reduction. Several studies have shown that 22.9% of parents practice poor parenting practices, a factor contributing to the high incidence of stunting in toddlers. Purpose: To determine the relationship between parenting patterns and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the work area of Tawaeli Health Center, Palu City. Methods: This type of research is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The study population was all toddlers aged 24–59 months in the Tawaeli Community Health Center working area. A sample of 70 respondents was selected using a purposive sampling technique, with the inclusion criteria being toddlers who had complete data regarding height and weight and mothers who were willing to be respondents. Data on family parenting patterns were collected using a structured questionnaire, while stunting status was determined based on anthropometric data. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. Results: There was a significant relationship between family parenting patterns and the incidence of stunting in toddlers with a p value of 0.02 (p <0.05). Toddlers raised with poor parenting patterns had a higher risk of stunting than toddlers raised with good parenting patterns. Conclusion: Family parenting patterns are significantly associated with stunting in toddlers aged 24–59 months. Strengthening the family's role through education on appropriate parenting patterns needs to be a focus of pediatric and community nursing interventions in stunting prevention efforts.
