Abstract

The Meranti Archipelago is the largest producer and exporter of sago in Indonesia. However, in some areas, sago processing sites have not developed optimally, especially in Bagan Melibur Village. Based on this, the research team from the University of Riau carried out community service activities in Bagan Melibur Village, Merbau District, Meranti Islands, Riau on June 25 – July 1, 2021. In this activity, the research team collaborated with MSMEs BAS (Bagan Melibur Amanah Sejahtera) ) and the local community to build a drying house with UV plastic coating that can be used to dry sago cendol food products so that they can be processed into dry food which is expected to optimize the production and marketing of processed sago. Solar radiation that is absorbed directly by UV plastic functions as a conductor and retainer of heat so that the temperature in a place or room is maintained. The achievement of the results obtained in the form of a drying house with solar power that can be used at any time and in cloudy or rainy weather conditions. With this, of course, the production of dry sago cendol can last longer and can be marketed outside the Bagan Melibur area.

Abstract

The government's policy for implementing distance learning or online learning has been implemented for approximately a year to prevent the transmission/spread of the coronavirus. For about a year, teachers at every level of education have tried to optimize learning by utilizing digital technology. Teachers who previously had not been able to use technology were forced to be literate and up to date with technology to facilitate the learning process. However, teachers encounter several obstacles during distance learning, and there are still many teachers who do not understand how to design technology-based media and teaching materials for learning mathematics. Moving on from this problem, the PGSD service team in mathematics designed a technology-based mathematics learning design workshop (GeoGebra) for elementary school teachers. This workshop held three meetings with a blended learning model (online-offline-online) at SDN 024 Tarai Bangun. The workshop was attended by 22 elementary school teachers from 3 elementary schools. The workshop results showed that teachers experienced an increase in knowledge and skills, especially in designing GeoGebra-based mathematics learning from the less to average category. This activity implies that teachers are expected to implement the knowledge and skills acquired in learning mathematics in the classroom.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate prospective elementary teachers’ (PsETs) mathematical and didactical knowledge of comparing decimals. Thirty-two fourth-year PsETs from an elementary school teacher education study program in Indonesia participated in this study. Each PsET is asked to solve a mathematical task of comparing decimals presented in the hypothetical teacher task (HTT), and then the PsETs use their mathematical knowledge to build their didactical knowledge collectively (pairs). Their mathematical and didactic knowledge is analyzed based on the anthropological theory of the didactic, especially praxeology. The findings indicate that PsETs have various techniques to solve the comparing decimal task, but some of them find it difficult to explain those techniques.

Abstract

WORKSHOP OF UTILIZATION OF LEARNING ENVIRONTMENT AROUND SCHOOLS IN MATHEMATICS LEARNING FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN SIAK HULU, KAMPAR. The workshop on the utilization of learning environment was motivated by the lack of teachers' mathematical and didactical knowledge. Teachers tend to explain techniques or procedures for solving mathematical problems without explaining the real context or situation of the problem, and this is contrary to the theories of mathematical learning that develop, such as the cognitive development theory, the realistic mathematics education, and the didactic situation theory. In addressing this problem, the team held a week workshop consisting of the lectures, observation, lesson plans, and implementation of learning by the teachers participating in the workshop, and reflection and evaluation of workshop activities. The data collection instrument consists of a questionnaire measuring the attitudes and beliefs of teachers towards mathematics, students learning mathematics, and mathematics learning based on real environments, photos, video recordings, and documents produced by the participants. The results of the implementation of this workshop show an increase in teachers' beliefs and attitudes towards students learning and mathematics learning based on real-life situations. Some participants were able to present the potential of the school environment as a source of learning mathematics, compile lesson plans, and carry out environment-based mathematics learning. The recommendation from this activity is that in the future it is necessary to have a service program that focuses on strengthening the teachers' mathematics content knowledge and making mathematics learning media and/or teaching aids.
