Abstract

Background: One of the health problems that often occurs in children under 3 years of age is underweight. The prevalence of underweight in Purwakarta Regency is 14.1%. One of the efforts to overcome this underweight problem is through the Supplementary Feeding Programme (PMT). Catfish can be an option of food ingredients for PMT because it is high in protein and omega-3. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of catfish consumption as an alternative to supplementary feeding (PMT) for children under 3 years of age. Methods: This research design used a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control-group before-after design approach. The sample size was 30 children for each intervention and control group. Statistical analysis used univariate, bivariate using paired T-test and Independent T-test, effectiveness using N-Gain test, and multivariate multiple logistic regression test.  Results: The results of the study using a paired T-test showed that there was a difference in the increase in body weight before and after administration of catfish PMT in the intervention and control groups (p-value = 0.001). The independent t-test results showed no significant difference in body weight after administration of catfish PMT in the intervention and control groups (p-value = 0.182). The results of the N-Gain test showed that the intervention group had an average of 7.55% and the control group had an average of 6.99%, which means that the provision of catfish PMT on weight gain is ineffective in the intervention and control groups.

Abstract

The availability of clean water is important for health, but not all areas have adequate access. Some communities rely on rainwater, wells, or unsuitable ditches for their daily needs. To overcome this problem, a microcontroller-based water tank control and monitoring system was developed near water sources such as ponds or ditches. This system uses simple filtration with silica sand, zeolite stone, activated carbon, coral shell sand, and coconut fiber to filter dirty water into clean water. The filtration results showed an increase in water quality: the pH of clean water increased from 6.39 to 8.18 and the TDS decreased from 0.63 to 0.03. Pond water increased in pH from 7.22 to 8.19, with TDS decreasing from 0.61 to 0.43. Ditch water showed an increase in pH from 6.97 to 7.77, but a slight increase in TDS from 0.80 to 0.85. Overall, this filtration improves water quality by adjusting pH and reducing TDS.

Abstract

Conventional shoe drying methods generally utilise sunlight and aeration, but are often constrained by unpredictable weather and low light intensity. This causes the drying process to take a long time, even up to a week, and risks damaging the shoes, such as peeling sole glue and fading colours. In addition, the level of dryness of the shoes becomes uneven. To overcome these problems, an automatic shoe dryer system was designed using ESP32 as a monitoring and control tool. This system is equipped with an AC heater as an artificial heater, a DHT22 sensor to detect the temperature and humidity in the drying room, a 1-phase AC motor as a centrifugal force driver to reduce the moisture content in the shoes, and a 16x2 LCD to display real-time temperature and humidity data. The system is also connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) based Blynk application so that the drying process can be monitored and controlled online via smartphone. Based on 10 trials of reducing moisture content for 5 minutes, the average humidity was 93.8% RH. Meanwhile, the drying process using a heater took an average of 208.5 minutes at temperatures below 56°C with a final humidity of 79% RH. This system proved to be more efficient and practical than the manual method.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by dengue virus infection. DHF is an acute disease with clinical manifestations of bleeding that causes shock, which can lead to death. One of the areas affected by the DHF virus is Lebak Regency, Banten, with 1,400 people infected with the DHF virus and 6 deaths over a period of 4 months.  This is due to weather changes and the community's lack of concern for the environment, allowing water to stagnate and breed Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Of the 12 subdistricts endemic to dengue fever in Lebak Regency, there are four urban areas that are endemic to dengue fever, namely Rangkasbitung, Cibadak, Kalanganyar, and Warunggunung subdistricts. This is due to the high population density in these areas.  As of 2024, the Lebak Health Office (Dinkes) has recorded 1,327 cases of dengue fever in Lebak Regency, with 6 deaths. This number of dengue fever cases has increased compared to 2023, which reached 760 cases and four deaths. During this community service activity, the Jagabaya Village area in the subdistrict will receive guidance from the Jakarta II Ministry of Health Polytechnic in collaboration with the Community Health Center to RW/RT cadres so that the community can independently control and reduce the incidence of dengue fever by learning how to eliminate breeding sites and use ovitraps. This initiative will be ongoing, and its outcomes will be evaluated, potentially serving as a model for other regions in implementing vector-borne disease control measures.

Abstract

Abstract: Effect of Mixture of Styrofoam Powder and Wood Ash on CBR Value of Subgrade Soil. Subgrade soil plays a vital role in road construction, including the Tepus-Jerukwudel II road. On the other hand, subgrade soil which is clay is one of the soils that has many disadvantages, including having high cohesion properties, low carrying capacity, or relatively low CBR value, because of these conditions it’s necessary to stabilize the clay soil to improve the soil properties, if no repairs are made to the clay soil, then the infrastructure on it will potentially be damaged. By adding of styrofoam powder and wood ash, the physicals and mechanical properties of clay soil are improved and the CBR value is increased. Soil quality mixed with various chemical additives can improve soil quality. In this study, tests were carried out using the method of adding styrofoam powder and wood ash with variations of 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% on the dry weight of clay added to subgrade to analyze the effect of adding these materials on carrying capacity. Based on the results of this analysis, it is explained that the effect of adding Styrofoam powder and wood ash at 1% variation at point 1 is an increase in CBR 6.76%, at point 2 CBR 6.73%, and at point 3 CBR 6.21% from the previous CBR. From this it can be concluded that the compositions of the base soil mixture with 1% Styrofoam powder and wood ash has a good compositions and the change in CBR value is the steepest increase among the other variations. Abstract
