Abstract

Collaborative learning has gained significant attention as an effective pedagogical approach in fostering academic achievement and 21st-century skills among students. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of collaborative learning in improving student outcomes at the junior high school level. Employing a qualitative research design, this article synthesizes findings from recent studies published within the last five years to explore how collaborative learning impacts academic performance, engagement, and skill development. The analysis reveals that collaborative learning enhances students' academic outcomes by promoting deeper comprehension and critical thinking through peer interaction and cooperative problem-solving. Furthermore, it increases student engagement and motivation by creating participatory and interactive learning environments. Beyond academic benefits, collaborative learning also develops essential skills such as communication, teamwork, and adaptability, which are crucial for success in the 21st century. However, challenges such as unequal participation within groups and the need for effective teacher facilitation remain key barriers to its implementation. This study discusses strategies to address these challenges, including designing tasks that foster positive interdependence, providing clear roles within groups, and leveraging technology to enhance collaboration. The findings underscore the transformative potential of collaborative learning in junior high schools while highlighting areas for improvement and further research. By integrating collaborative learning effectively into classroom practices, educators can create meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for academic success and future professional demands.

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the integration of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) as a pedagogical approach to develop critical thinking competencies among secondary education students. The research examines how PBL methodologies can be effectively implemented to enhance students' higher-order thinking skills within the Indonesian educational context. Through a comprehensive analysis of classroom observations, in-depth interviews with educators, and document analysis, this study identifies key implementation strategies, challenges, and outcomes of PBL integration. The findings reveal that PBL significantly improves students' analytical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and metacognitive skills when systematically incorporated into the curriculum. Furthermore, the research highlights the importance of teacher preparation, supportive learning environments, and authentic assessment methods in maximizing the effectiveness of PBL for critical thinking development. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on innovative pedagogical approaches in secondary education and provides practical recommendations for educators and policymakers seeking to foster critical thinking competencies essential for 21st-century learners.

Abstract

Interest in pursuing a career as a teacher is an important factor in the preparation of future educators, especially in teacher education programs. Preparation of future educators, especially in teacher education programs. The objectives of this study are 1) to determine the effect of self-efficacy and perceptions of the teaching profession on interest in becoming a teacher in chemistry education study program students, 2) to determine the effect of self-efficacy on interest in becoming a teacher of chemistry education study program students, 3) to determine the effect of perceptions of the teaching profession on interest in becoming a teacher of chemistry education study program students. A quantitative correlational approach was used, with participants selected through proportional random sampling. Independent variables include self-efficacy (X1), which represents students' confidence in their teaching skills, and perceptions of the teaching profession (X2), which includes attitudes towards the profession's image, challenges, and social significance. The dependent variable was students' interest in pursuing a career as a teacher (Y). A questionnaire was used to collect data, and its reliability was assessed using Cronbach's Alpha, construct validity with Pearson's product-moment correlation, and content using Gregory's model. The impact of the independent variables on the dependent variable was evaluated using regression analysis. The results showed that student's motivation to pursue a career in teaching is strongly influenced by their opinions about the teaching profession and their level of self-efficacy.

Abstract

Contemporary education demands a shift from surface learning to deep learning, which focuses on conceptual understanding and critical thinking. In Indonesia, the Kurikulum Merdeka (Merdeka Curriculum) has been introduced as a new framework that philosophically aligns with this objective. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the Merdeka Curriculum framework as a vehicle for achieving deep learning among elementary school students. The method employed is a literature review, analyzing secondary data from scientific journals, government policy documents, and other relevant literature. The data is analyzed qualitatively to identify convergences and potential gaps. The results of the analysis indicate a strong alignment between the two concepts. Specifically, (1) Differentiated Learning within the Merdeka Curriculum directly facilitates the attainment of conceptual understanding; (2) the Project to Strengthen the Pancasila Student Profile (P5) serves as an effective arena for developing the core competencies of deep learning (the 6Cs); and (3) the emphasis on formative assessment promotes the development of students' metacognitive skills. Nevertheless, a major critical point is identified at the implementation level, where the success of this transformation is highly dependent on the capacity and pedagogical understanding of teachers. It is concluded that the Merdeka Curriculum holds significant potential as a vehicle for deep learning, yet it requires support through professional development for teachers that focuses on strengthening higher-order cognitive learning strategies.

Abstract

Contemporary education at the elementary school level faces the dual demands of creating inclusive learning environments while fostering deep learning. This literature review aims to comparatively analyze two primary pedagogical strategies: Differentiated Instruction (DI) within the context of the Merdeka Curriculum and the Inquiry-Based Approach (IBA) as a vehicle for deep learning. Through a systematic analysis of relevant academic literature, this study maps the theoretical foundations, implementation models, and fundamental similarities and differences between the two approaches. The findings indicate that DI focuses on equitable access by responding to student diversity, whereas IBA concentrates on the depth of understanding through investigative processes. It was found that these two strategies are not mutually exclusive but are, in fact, complementary. The primary synthesis recommends an integrated model where IBA is used as a macro-framework, and the principles of DI are implemented as micro-strategies within each phase to create an adaptive, challenging, and inclusive learning environment.
