Abstract

The research is based on the importance of self-regulated learning (SRL) in supporting students' academic success, as they can set goals and evaluate their own learning process. However, in reality, a number of studies show that many students still have low SRL abilities. Furthermore, there are also indications of differences in SRL between males and females that need to be studied further, namely several findings that show significant differences, while other studies do not. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify differences in SRL based on gender at SMA Negeri 7 Padang. This study used a quantitative approach with a comparative method, involving 298 students as respondents, including 130 males and 168 females. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The findings of this study indicate that there is a significant difference between male and female students in terms of SRL, with female students scoring higher than male students (mean difference = -14.369). This shows that female students are better able to manage their own learning processes and are more responsible for their learning outcomes. These findings have important implications for guidance and counseling services in schools, especially in designing intervention strategies that are more suited to students' needs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role and application of descriptive and inferential statistics in guidance and counseling research. Descriptive statistics are employed to present data characteristics such as perceptions, attitudes, and satisfaction levels toward counseling services, while inferential statistics are used to test hypotheses, explore relationships between variables, and assess the effectiveness of counseling programs. This qualitative review analyzed 15 relevant international journal articles. The findings indicate that the use of statistics in counseling research not only enhances the validity and reliability of findings but also aids school counselors in making data-driven decisions. The study recommends improving statistical literacy among guidance and counseling practitioners and researchers as a crucial step toward strengthening evidence-based practices.

Abstract

Social relationships within peer groups are a crucial factor in students' academic and personal success. Good relationships enable students to fully realize their potential. However, many students experience difficulties interacting, such as feeling isolated, easily offended, and even having communication problems via social media. This article represents a best practice conducted by researchers. The activity was conducted in a single meeting, focusing on social relationships within peer groups. This best practice study found that students were quite active in participating in group guidance services, beginning with a game of names played by all group members. Group guidance, using a Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approach, employing cognitive restructuring techniques and discussion strategies, improved students' understanding of social relationships and helped them develop their potential. Students became more active, less awkward or shy about speaking in front of others, and more open, which directly improved the quality of their interactions with peers.

Abstract

Self-esteem is now a global psychological issue that influences mental well-being, achievement, and social relationships. However, research linking self-esteem development to a culture-based counseling approach remains limited, especially in the Minangkabau context, which is rich in values of togetherness and independence. This type of research is a quantitative quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent design. The subjects of this study were 20 students of Batipuh 1 State Senior High School. The research instrument was a self-esteem checklist developed using a Likert scale. Data were analyzed using the N-Gain test, the Wilcoxon test, and the Mann-Whitney test . The results showed that the Agentic group guidance service in the experimental group was "quite effective" in increasing students' self-esteem with an N-Gain of 57.5 while the control group was 32.3. The Mann-Whitney test produced p = 0.001 (<0.005). This research is novel in integrating Bandura's socio-cognitive theory of agentic behavior with Minangkabau cultural values, resulting in a contextual and culturally sensitive agentic group guidance model. This model has the potential to be an effective framework for developing culture-based counseling interventions in a multicultural society. Abstract

University students frequently experience existential concerns alongside subclinical psychological distress, including reduced meaning in life, depression, and anxiety. Meaning-centered group counseling based on logotherapy has been proposed as a preventive intervention; however, evidence for young adult populations remains limited. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review with Network Analysis (SLNA) conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines to examine the effectiveness and research landscape of meaning-centered group counseling for university students. A systematic search of the Scopus database (2015-2025) identified five controlled studies (N = 206) involving group-based logotherapy interventions for individuals aged 18-25 years. Meaning in life was the primary outcome, while depression, anxiety, and stress were secondary outcomes. Due to heterogeneity, data were synthesized using SWiM guidelines and complemented by a bibliometric keyword co-occurrence analysis of 47 Scopus-indexed articles using VOSviewer. The results indicate consistent and significant improvements in meaning in life (p < 0.05) with large effect sizes, accompanied by reductions in psychological distress. These findings support meaning-centered group counseling as an effective preventive intervention in university counseling settings.

Abstract

Expressive arts therapy, is a therapeutic approach that has been increasingly applied in various educational and mental health contexts. However, studies that specifically and systematically examine the application of expressive arts therapy within group counseling settings remain limited. This study aims to map and synthesize existing research findings on expressive arts therapy in the context of group counseling through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). A total of 53 scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2025 were analyzed based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer was conducted to identify thematic patterns, research trends, and conceptual linkages among topics. The findings indicate that previous studies have predominantly focused on creative arts therapy, expressive interventions, and psychosocial outcomes, while integration with the theoretical frameworks and practices of group counseling remains suboptimal. From a methodological perspective, most studies employed qualitative approaches, pilot studies, and program evaluations, whereas experimental studies and systematic reviews specifically addressing expressive arts therapy in group counseling are still scarce. These findings indicate the absence of an integrated model that incorporates expressive arts therapy into group counseling. This study therefore contributes by highlighting the need for the development of a more systematic and contextually grounded group counseling model based on expressive arts therapy.

Abstract

Academic resilience is an essential psychological capacity that enables students to cope effectively with academic challenges, particularly those who experience delays in completing their studies. This study aimed to examine the direct and indirect relationships among supervisor social support, growth mindset, academic self-efficacy, and academic resilience among university students experiencing delayed study completion. A quantitative explanatory research design was employed involving 199 students from the Faculty of Sport Sciences, Universitas Negeri Padang, Indonesia. Data were collected using the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-24), Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, Growth Mindset Scale, and Social Support Scale and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that academic self-efficacy (β = 0.303, p < .001), growth mindset (β = 0.448, p < .001), and supervisor social support (β = 0.167, p = .011) had significant positive effects on academic resilience. Supervisor social support also had significant positive effects on growth mindset (β = 0.818, p < .001) and academic self-efficacy (β = 0.460, p < .001). Furthermore, growth mindset and academic self-efficacy significantly mediated the relationship between supervisor social support and academic resilience. The proposed structural model explained 76.7% of the variance in academic resilience, indicating substantial explanatory power. These findings underscore the importance of integrating internal psychological resources and external social support in promoting students’ academic resilience. The study provides empirical evidence for an integrated model of academic resilience and suggests that universities should strengthen academic supervision, counseling services, and psychological support programs that enhance growth mindset, academic self-efficacy, and supportive supervisor–student relationships to facilitate timely study completion.
