Abstract

The traditional game galah hadang is a culturally grounded form of play that integrates movement, strategy, teamwork, and sportsmanship; however, its practice among elementary school children has tended to decline alongside shifts in play patterns and reduced opportunities for meaningful physical activity. This study aimed to (1) introduce galah hadang to Grade 5 students at UPT SPF SD Inpres Tamangapa Elementary School in Makassar and (2) assess changes in students’ gameplay performance following the introductory session. A quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was implemented in a single meeting involving 20 Grade 5 students. Gameplay performance was assessed using a teacher-rated galah hadang test on a 1–5 scale across four indicators: accuracy in guarding the line, agility in evasion, rule compliance, and team cooperation, supported by activity documentation. The findings indicate improved performance across all indicators after a structured introduction that combined rule socialization, role simulation, and supervised practice, with the most prominent gains observed in rule compliance and team cooperation. These results suggest that a systematically delivered traditional-game introduction can serve as a practical physical education learning alternative to strengthen both motor-related skills and social play behaviors, while providing a feasible evaluation basis for school-based community engagement programs.

Abstract

This study examines Thomas Carlyle’s defense of Prophet Muhammad SAW as articulated in his lecture On Heroes, Hero-Worship, and the Heroic in History (1840). At a time when Western society was dominated by negative stereotypes and prejudice against Islam, Carlyle presented a counter-narrative by portraying Prophet Muhammad SAW as a sincere, moral, and heroic figure. Using a qualitative approach with Critical Discourse Analysis based on Norman Fairclough’s model, this research analyzes the text at three levels: textual representation, discursive practice, and social practice. The findings reveal that Carlyle’s discourse challenges dominant Western narratives by reconstructing the image of Prophet Muhammad SAW through ethical leadership, spiritual authenticity, and historical legitimacy. From the perspective of da’wah communication, Carlyle’s discourse functions as a form of intellectual mediation that promotes intercultural understanding and counters Islamophobic narratives. This study contributes to the field of Islamic communication by highlighting the role of intellectual discourse as an alternative medium of da’wah in shaping public perception and fostering cross-cultural dialogue.

Abstract

Advances in digital technology have had a significant impact on the reading behavior of elementary school students. Student reading habits tend to decline due to the predominant use of digital devices for entertainment. Based on this situation, this community service activity was implemented with the aim of increasing students' interest in reading and literacy skills through a reading corner revitalization program at the UPT SDN 73 Bontorita 1 in Bontomangape Village, Galesong District, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi. The program lasted two months and involved teachers, students, and the school's literacy community. The implementation method used a collaborative participatory approach that included preparation, counseling, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The reading corner revitalization involved designing an attractive reading space, providing printed and digital reading materials, and implementing literacy activities such as shared reading sessions and light book discussions. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in students' reading interest. Based on questionnaires and observations, the frequency of student visits to the reading corner increased by 62% after the revitalization. Seventy percent of students stated that the reading corner became more attractive and comfortable, and 80% of teachers reported increased student participation in reading activities. In addition, a school literacy community was formed that actively manages the reading corner on an ongoing basis. The benefits of this activity noto9oonly create a conducive literacy environment but also strengthen collaboration between teachers, students, and parents in fostering a reading culture. In conclusion, the reading corner revitalization activity successfully integrated physical and digital approaches to increase reading interest in elementary school students. A new aspect that emerged was the active involvement of the entire school community in developing the digital technology-based reading corner as a modern and sustainable literacy learning center.

Abstract

Abstract This study analyzes the function of Fawatiḥ al-Suwar (the initial letters) in Surah Al-Baqarah, by examining the linguistic, theological, and thematic aspects contained in the structure of the Qur'an. The aim of this study is to strengthen the understanding that the initial letters such as Alif Lām Mīm are not merely sacred signs that have no meaning, but rather carry a deeper message that emphasizes the greatness of revelation and the unity of meaning in the following verses. This study applies a qualitative-descriptive method with a thematic and linguistic approach in the interpretation of the Qur'an, supported by research from the perspectives of both classical and modern exegetes. The results show that Fawatiḥ al-Suwar plays a role as an opener of divine communication, which strengthens the relationship between God, His Book, and humanity. In addition, the existence of these letters contains references to spiritual and moral values, including awareness of Tawhid, justice, and social and economic responsibility, as reflected in the contents of Surah Al-Baqarah. Thus, the muqatta'ah letters are not only a puzzle, but also a symbol of the magic of the Koran, which invites humanity to continue to ponder and understand the divine message more deeply.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of LEGO games on early childhood spatial abilities and understanding of mathematical concepts. Through a quantitative approach, this study involved children aged 5-6 years at Kober Darul Amanah Kindergarten, West Bandung Regency with a population of all students in the school and a sample of 25 students selected randomly. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method and explanatory research design. This study is included in a causal-correlational study, which is a method to see the relationship or influence between variable X and variable Y without direct manipulation. The sampling technique used is probability sampling with the simple random sampling method. The results of the analysis showed that the data were not normally distributed, with a significance value of 0.017 for spatial ability and 0.016 for mathematical understanding. In addition, the correlation analysis produced a significance value of 0.378, which indicates that there is no significant relationship between LEGO games and increased spatial ability and understanding of children's mathematical concepts. These findings indicate that although LEGO play can be an educational tool, its use in this context is not effective enough to improve both aspects of cognitive development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the contextual approach in the development of contemporary Islamic da'wah through legal education and the development of a mathematics education-based curriculum tailored to the needs of modern youth. Qualitative research methods were employed, using in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis for data collection. The contextual approach was chosen for its ability to integrate Islamic values with legal principles and mathematical concepts such as patterns, logic, and regularity, so that da'wah becomes not only a spiritual tool but also an intellectual tool. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes relating to strategies, opportunities and challenges in applying this approach. The findings show that the application of the contextual approach to math-based da'wah in legal education enhances students' logical and practical understanding of Islamic values and legal principles. However, challenges faced such as limited teacher competence in integrating these areas and lack of relevant teaching materials were identified. This research provides practical recommendations for preachers, educators, and policy makers to support innovative, relevant, and sustainable da'wah strategies. Therefore, this research contributes to the development of effective da'wah methods.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas, and prevention efforts must begin during pregnancy. This community service program aimed to improve knowledge and awareness regarding high-risk pregnancy and maternal nutritional monitoring as an early strategy to prevent stunting in Tupabiring Village. The program was conducted using a structured approach consisting of preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. Activities included health education sessions, interactive discussions, nutritional status assessment through body weight and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurements, anemia risk identification, and individualized counseling for pregnant women. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge of high-risk pregnancy, danger signs, balanced maternal nutrition, and the importance of routine antenatal care (ANC) visits. Nutritional monitoring enabled early identification of pregnant women at risk of nutritional problems, providing a basis for targeted counseling and follow-up recommendations. The involvement of family members and community health cadres strengthened community participation and program sustainability. In conclusion, education combined with maternal nutritional monitoring is an effective community-based intervention to enhance maternal health awareness and support early stunting prevention efforts. Sustainable and integrated programs at the village level are recommended to optimize long-term maternal and child health outcomes

Abstract

The background of this study is based on the urgent need for a curriculum that is more relevant, flexible, and responsive to modern pedagogical developments, including the demands of communicative competence, technology integration, and the diversity of learner needs. This study aims to analyze classical and contemporary curriculum development models that have been applied in language education, such as the Tyler, Taba, Oliva, Beauchamp, Wheeler, Audrey & Nicholls models, as well as competency-based curricula. The research method uses a literature study by reviewing primary and secondary literature related to curriculum development theory and practice. The data collection method used is literature documentation and in-depth analysis to produce a theoretical conclusion regarding the most effective curriculum model. The results of the study indicate that no single model can be used universally in Arabic Language Education. Effective curriculum development must integrate clarity of objectives, relevant material structure, a communicative approach, and continuous competency-based evaluation. This study emphasizes the importance of an adaptive curriculum, namely a curriculum that combines the best elements of various models according to the characteristics of the institution, learning culture, and learner needs.
