Abstract

Background :. Stunting among children is one of the major health problems in developing countries. Globally, 45% of deaths among children are caused by malnutrition, meanwhile stunting, as one of the factors, plays an important role. Children who experience stunting can not achieve optimal growth and cognitive potential. Hence, that will have an impact on future productivity. Muara Enim district is included in one district with stunting prevalence, which is above 20%, i.e. 26.9%. This study was to identify the risk factors of stunting children in Pulau Panggung district, Muara Enim, South Sumatera. Methods: This study applied observational analytic research using cross sectional design. It was conducted on August to October 2017 at public health center in Pulau Panggung district, Muara Enim. There were 83 children who fullfilled the inclusion criteria. The relationship between risk factors and stunting was analyzed using Chi square test and Logistic Regression test was applied to identify the risk factor that play the most role to stunting. Results: 49,4% out of 83 children suffer from stunting, with a mean age of 29,37±13,69 months where the number of children stunting with male gender is 53.7% while female gender is 46.3%. Chi square analysis showed that there was a significant relationship among birth weight, birth length, mother's occupation, history of infection, exclussive breastfeeding and stunting (p< 0.05) but no significant relationship was found among sex, mother's education, maternal height and income with stunting (p> 0.05). Multivariate Logistic Regression test showed that mother's occupation and history of infection are the risk factors that contibute the most to stunting among children aged 6-59 months in Pulau Panggung district. The risk of stunting among working mothers is higher 5 times than unworking mothers and children with infection history have risk of stunting 3 times compared to children without infection history. Conclusion: Mother's occupation and infection history are risk factors that contribute the most to stunting among children at Pulau Panggung district, Muara Enim, South Sumatera.

Abstract

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a sudden decrease of kidney function. The incidence of AKI is increasing every year. One of the causes of AKI is the lack of blood supply to the kidneys (prerenal). At the present time, there are not many studies that report unilateral ischemic-reperfusion (UIR) duration which can cause kidney damage especially glomerulus. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of UIR duration to glomerular microscopic appearance, GFR and cystatin C produced in Wistar white rats. This study was performed in vivo by using Post-test Only Control Group Design. Unilateral Ischemic-Reperfusion was administered on the rat’s left kidney and recovery was done according to specified time. After recovery time, rat’s blood was taken, the rat was euthanized, and its kidneys were taken and stained with Picrosirius Red coloring. The kidneys were observed by using OptiLED and the photos were analyzed with ImageJ software. Blood samples were tested by ELISA to measure the cystatin C levels and the levels were converted into Larrson formula to obtain Glomerular Filtration Rate. The level of cystatin C increased along with the longer duration of UIR and compared inversely proportional to GFR which decreased along with the rise of UIR duration. Cystatin C and GFR had a significant mean difference (p<0.05) with all groups, except for the duration of the UIR group <60 minutes. The percentage of collagen obtained fluctuated but the whole group which was carried out by UIR had a significantly different collagen amount (p <0.05) with the sham-operated group. The average glomerular picture showed the addition of collagen, Bowman's capsule thickening and vascular retraction. The longer duration of UIR will worsen the kidney function. Abstract

Introduction: Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma among B cell lymphomas. The interaction of tumor cells with their microenvironment (tumor microenvironment, TME) leads to progressivity of malignancy. CD163 + macrophages known as components of TME. Nuclear factor of activated T cell (NFATc1) and MYC are important transcription factors in malignant transformation and progression. Therapeutic strategies were fast developed, nevertheless, efforts to decrease DLBCL morbidity and mortality are unsatisfied, therefore, new markers for prognosis and or therapeutic options of the patients are necessary. This study was aimed to investigate NFATc1 expression in DLBCL and its TME. Methods: Thirty-two paraffin blocks were selected then immunostained for expression of NFATc1, MYC, and CD163. Clinopathologic data i.e. ages, gender, and proliferation index Ki-67 were obtained. Data was analyzed by statistics Result: Positive expression of CD163 and NFATc1 was among 55% and 45% of cases respectively. All DLBCL cases in this study were non-GCB subtype and more patients were under 60 years (66%). Positive expression of CD163 was higher in males (69%) and in patients under 60 years (63%). Tissues positive for both NFATc1 and CD163 was observed higher among males and patients under 60 years. Conclusion: NFATc1 may affect development and or progression of certain subsets of DLBCL non-GCB subtype.

Abstract

Hyperglycemia in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) can cause individuals to experience oxidative stress conditions, accompanied by a decrease in antioxidant activity in protecting cellular components against the attack of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS oxidized lipid components can produce Malondialdehyde (MDA). Evaluation of MDA can be used as a marker Oxidative stress which can indirectly describe the effects of ROS because ROS compounds are reactive. This study aims to determine the analysis of MDA in T2DM subjects at the Sentinel Public Health Center in Bengkulu City in 2017.research Analytic with a case control study design in 40 samples of T2DM subjects (cases) and 40 Non-DM samples (control) were carried out at the Sentinel DM Health Center in Bengkulu City. Data collection used questionnaires, measurements of Body Mass Index, examination of Fasting Blood Glucose and plasma MDA (spectrophotometry). The results of this study there were differences in characteristics (Gender, Age, BMI, Blood Pressure, Fasting Blood Glucose) in subjects with T2DM and Non-T2DM in the Bengkulu City Sentinel Health Center in 2017 (p <0,000). There was a significant difference (p= 0,000) in higher MDA levels in patients with T2DM than non-DM subjects. The MDA frequency distribution in the case was MDNormal (24%) and MDA Normal (6%), whereas in the control was MDA Not Normal (26%) and MDA Normal (44%). There were significant differences in MDA frequency distribution between cases and controls (p= 0,000). The subjects of T2DM had a risk of 6.77 times an increase in MDA levels compared to Non-DMT2 (p= 0.000, OR 6.77 IK 95% 2.44-18.73). The correlation between levels of GDP and MDA was statistically significant (p <0.001) with a positive correlation direction (0.340). The results of this study are expected to be used as a basis for the development of individual therapy in subjects with T2DM in order to prevent the occurrence of complications early on.
