Abstract

Bulletproof vests as self-protection for military personnel are generally made from synthetic fiber-reinforced composites. Kevlar and carbon fiber reinforced composites have been able to withstand bullet penetration rates and have lightweight characteristics, but production costs with synthetic fibers are relatively expensive. The use of substitute materials from natural fiber is very potential, due to the abundance of natural fiber, lightweight, and relatively cheap price. One of the potential natural fibers is fiber from the salacca midrib. This study focused on the effect of adding salacca frond fiber on the composite characteristics of Kevlar fiber and carbon fiber, with SiC and Al2O3 fillers. The manufacture of this composite is carried out by the Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) method. There are 4 variations of fiber volume fractions and fillers as reinforcement added to this composite. From the results of observations with SEM, the results of the matrix and reinforcement are well bound. The ballistic test results show that all variations of test samples can withstand the bullet rate so that it does not penetrate. The results of mechanical tests show that currently the addition of salacca frond fiber has not significantly improved the mechanical properties of the composite

Abstract

Electric vehicle manufacturers have a significant need for brushless DC (BLDC) motors. This is because of its benefits, including brushless construction, high efficiency and power ratio, huge mass, and ease of control. This study aims to examine the relative importance of the various variables on the three motorcycles that the three prototypes are actually mounted on. In order to optimize the technical testing process and save wasteful time and expense, the Taguchi Method with the characteristic of smaller is better was employed for the research. Two different types of road terrain were used for the tests: flat and uphill with slope angles of 2 and 4. Use. Prototypes 1, 2, and 3 of the electric motors utilized in this study each feature a distinct ratio of magnetic poles: prototype 1 has 48 poles/54 slots, prototypes 2 has 50 poles/45 slots, and prototype 3 has 40 poles/36 slots. According to the test results, the type of electric motor, the type of road, the distance, and ultimately the speed level are the parameters that have the greatest influence.

Abstract

3D printing technology is becoming one of the most convenient fabrication methods and is bringing about major changes in the manufacturing industry. 3D printing with Fused Deposition Modeling technology makes it possible to produce prototypes and components in a shorter time. It is known that different materials, printing techniques, and printing parameters affect the mechanical properties of printed objects. However, studies on the mechanical properties of 3D printed structures are still limited. This research focuses on the use of thermoplastic materials such as Polypropylene, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Stryrene and plastic composites with glass fiber reinforcement and maleic anhydride, in producing filaments for printing lighter vehicle components. This research conducted a further study of the relationship between two molding parameters, namely infill pattern and infill density, conducted on filament materials that have been determined for their composition. This research uses experimental method by varying five types of infill pattern selected grid, gyroid, hexagon, concentric, cubic with two infill density denisty 50% and 75%. The results were obtained through Brinell hardness testing with ASTM-D785 reference standard. The test results showed that the concentric pattern with sample code B2 got the highest hardness value of 37.7023 Kgf/mm², while the lowest hardness value was obtained by the grid pattern with sample A1 at 16.5912 kgf/mm².
