Abstract

This study aims to identify and explain the origins and evolution of the Arabic language from a historical and academic perspective, as well as to analyze its contribution in Indonesia from the time Islam entered the country until the digital age. In addition, this study seeks to evaluate the challenges and opportunities in learning Arabic today, as well as to describe its contribution in the fields of education and knowledge. Through this study, it is hoped that the importance of the Arabic language will be evident, not only in a religious context but also in academic aspects and on the global stage. This research uses a qualitative method, a structured and systematic research method that aims to investigate, select, evaluate, and integrate relevant literature from various sources. This research also uses a library research approach that focuses on collecting and analyzing data from various literature sources, such as books, scientific journals, articles, official documents, and other relevant written sources. The analysis results show the history and development of the Arabic language and its influence on education, science, and the digital age. Historically, there are two views on the origin of the Arabic language: as the language used by Prophet Adam and as part of the Semitic language family. In Indonesia, the presence of the Arabic language began to increase with the arrival of Islam, then declined during the colonial period, and revived after Indonesia gained independence. In the digital age, Arabic faces various challenges and new opportunities through the use of technology for learning. In addition to its role as a religious language, Arabic also plays an important role in academia and scientific development, and contributes to the formation of a generation capable of competing globally.

Abstract

Writing skills plays an important role in supporting activities in learning Arabic. This study aims to reveal the writing skills learning process for class VIII students at MTs Ali Imron and compare it with the perspective.of Prof Dr. Abdurrahman Al-Fauzan’s theory. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method with the research subjects being class VIII students at MTs Ali Imron. This data collection technique uses observation and interviews. The results of this study conclude that the writing skills learning process for class VIII students at MTs Ali Imron Medan is not in accordance with the perspective of Prof, Dr. Abdurrahman Al-Fauzan’s theory. The inconsistencies are as follows; don't know how to write letters in a word and how to write vowels. Even though most of them like writing skills, teachers have not been able to provide a good learning process for the writing skills and according to the correct writing rules. So students can only just write without knowing or following the correct writing process.

Abstract

The Arabic language is often perceived by some individuals as inherently tied to Islamic teachings, creating a misconception that deters non-Muslims from engaging with it academically. This study addressed this issue by exploring how non-Muslim students constructed their religious identity and developed adaptation strategies while learning Arabic at State Islamic Religious Universities in Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative phenomenological approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews with five Christian students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra in Medan, and analyzing it using the ATLAS.ti application. The findings revealed that students maintained a strong and unaffected sense of religious identity, as they viewed Arabic not as a spiritual language but as a neutral, international means of communication. Participants adopted various adaptation strategies, such as framing Arabic as knowledge rather than belief, engaging in conformity, experiencing minority privilege, employing peer learning, utilizing environmental resources for knowledge, and reinforcing religious practices within the family. These strategies highlight the dynamic interplay between identity, belief, and academic engagement in a religious educational context, offering new insights into inclusive language learning environments in Islamic institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the role of technology in Arabic-Indonesian translation, focusing on the opportunities and challenges it poses. The development of technology, especially artificial intelligence and machine translation, has significantly impacted the translation process and the world of education. On the one hand, technology offers opportunities to improve the efficiency, speed, and accessibility of translation. However, on the other hand, technology also presents challenges, such as accuracy, linguistic nuances, and the role of human translators. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with literature review data collection techniques and content analysis to analyze how technology can be used to overcome these challenges and maximize existing opportunities so that it can produce quality and meaningful Arabic-Indonesian translations. The study results show that technology's role in Arabic-Indonesian translation provides opportunities and challenges. From the results of the study, it was found that the opportunities from AI-based translation, Google Translate, GPT chat, Online Dictionary, and so on can help someone who wants to learn a language with a very flexible, practical, and effective translation machine providing services for users, namely making it easier for someone to find the meaning of a vocabulary, sentence or Arabic text. Then, the existence of the translation machine also provides effectiveness and efficiency of time in translating a text or book, so that translating a text or book is completed faster in a short time. In addition to having opportunities or advantages in using technology translation machines. The role of technology translation also provides challenges or weaknesses in using translation machines. The weakness is the inaccuracy of the meaning produced by the translation machine. The meaning produced by the translation machine is sometimes confusing, inappropriate, and inaccurate. From the study results, researchers also showed that the comparison between the use of the Google Translate translation machine and the GPT chat translation machine, which is more effective and has 70% accuracy, is GPT chat.

Abstract

Arabic writing instruction (kitabah) is often considered difficult by students due to conventional teaching methods that tend to be rigid and non-contextual. This study aims to examine the implementation of authentic content-based writing instruction as an effort to enhance students’ motivation and Arabic writing skills. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups of students: experimental and control. The experimental group received instruction using authentic materials such as news articles, advertisements, and social media dialogues, while the control group continued with traditional methods. Findings revealed a significant improvement in writing ability and learning motivation among students in the experimental group. Authentic content was proven to create more relevant, interactive, and meaningful learning experiences, helping students understand the practical use of Arabic in real-life contexts. Therefore, this instructional strategy is recommended for broader implementation in Arabic language curricula at secondary and tertiary educational levels.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Mahkamah al-Lughah in improving Arabic speaking competence (maharah al-kalam) at Pondok Pesantren Modern Nurul Hakim Tembung. The background of this research is based on the low speaking ability of santriyati due to lack of motivation and ineffective learning methods. Mahkamah al-Lughah, which is a judicial simulation in Arabic, is an innovative approach in the pesantren environment to train santri to think critically, compose arguments, and actively use Arabic in daily life. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that Mahkamah al-Lughah is effective in improving the speaking skills of santri because it is supported by a conducive language environment, exemplary management and teachers, and systematic procedures through the role of jasus (language scouts). The inhibiting factors found include a lack of self-confidence and the influence of local languages in the association of santri. This study recommends strengthening the role model and motivation from the teachers as well as developing evaluation procedures that are more educational and constructive.
