Abstract

Abstract: Temajuk is an area of West Kalimantan Province which is directly adjacent to neighboring Malaysia. Due to the high dependence of the Temajuk community on the Malaysian community regarding meeting the necessities of life, it saves the potential for the loss of the national identity of the community, including the younger generation. One of the efforts that can be done in order to strengthen the national identity of the younger generation is by instilling awareness of maintaining and preserving national identity/local identity. But on the other hand, there are still many young people who do not comprehensively understand the role of national identity in the sense of nationalism and patriotism of the nation. Responding to this requires real efforts from various parties including universities to participate in socializing the issue to the school and community level. This PKM activity was carried out through socialization to 16 students from the Temajuk border area of Camar Buan Hamlet in the form of delivering material related to the national identity of the younger generation. The activities were carried out face-to-face at SMAN 2 Paloh. The result of this activity is that the younger generation/students can comprehensively know and understand the importance of maintaining and preserving national identity in the Temajuk border area of West Kalimantan in order to foster a sense of nationalism and patriotism.

Abstract

Students' difficulties with gas kinetic theory material have led to low mastery of physics concepts. Improving mastery of the concept of the kinetic theory of gases can be supported by using learning models. There have been many studies that prove that discovery learning can influence physics learning outcomes. However, this study uses a STEM approach integrated into a discovery learning model that acts as part of the inquiry level in physics classes Merdeka curriculum. This research aims to improve students' mastery of concepts in the kinetic theory of gases material through the STEM-discovery learning model. This research used a one-group pretest and posttest design on 30 students of class XI Merdeka 4 at SMAN 1 Dolopo. The instruments used are the RPP and five questions describing the concept mastery test. The data obtained was then analyzed using the normality test, difference test, N-gain, and effect size, and categorizing the students' concept mastery level for each question. The results of this research reveal that STEM-discovery learning is able to increase students' mastery of concepts in kinetic gas theory material. Interestingly, this research also found that students' correct conceptions have not been able to be stored in memory very well, so it is necessary to link kinetic gas theory material to other physics material that is still relevant so that students are motivated to remember and retain concepts.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to delve into the epistemological convictions of secondary school science teachers in Malang across various tenures, namely senior teachers, junior teachers, and pre-service teachers. Employing an explanatory sequential design model, the research employs a mixed-method approach. Quantitative data, gathered through the administration of the Scientific Epistemology Beliefs Questionnaire (n = 30), are complemented by qualitative insights drawn from interviews with teachers (n = 6) concerning their epistemological orientations. Descriptive statistics and qualitative analyses, utilizing an a priori coding technique aligned with the study’s conceptual framework, were conducted on the interview data. Quantitative analysis reveals a parity in the level of epistemological beliefs among teachers. However, qualitative examination unveils nuanced distinctions: senior teachers demonstrate transitional epistemological beliefs, while junior teachers and pre-service teachers exhibit traditional and instructive orientations, respectively. These findings hold significance for the enhancement of teachers’ professional development in Malang, particularly in the domain of science pedagogy.DOI: 10.17977/jps.v12i12024p034

Abstract

This study examines the mediating effect of Environmental-Friendly Operational Efficiency (EOBRL) on the relationship of Good Corporate Governance (GCG), capital structure, company size, and company performance of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2019 to 2023. It employed path analysis using SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results show that GCG directly improves performance because of its impact on EOBRL which encourages sustainable and efficient business operations. The study also shows that capital structure measured by Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) and Debt to Assets Ratio (DAR) improves performance by allowing investments into green technology and operational advancements. In addition, larger firms enhance EOBRL and performance as they are more able to invest in sustainability. EOBRL was found to be the most significant mediator of EOBRL in GCG, capital structure and company size and better performance due to increased environmental regulations in the industry. This research supports the notion that sustainability should drive operational efficiency and competitiveness in the long term. Further research may focus on specific sector’s issues, impacts of changing legislations, and the influence of technology on the development of EOBRL in different sectors

Abstract

As a result of initial observations and interviews with high school principals in Sekayam District, there are still some teachers who have difficulties in implementing the independent curriculum and are not proficient in compiling PjBL modules, especially teachers in the Indonesia-Malaysia border area. Based on this phenomenon, the team agreed to conduct counseling activities on training on the preparation of project-based teaching modules for high school teachers in the Indonesia - Malaysia border area. The reason for the selection of high school teachers in border areas as targets for PKM activities is the lack of continuous training and assistance from the government and other parties so that the lack of teacher skills to adapt to changes in education policy. The method of implementing this PKM is in the form of counseling on the independent curriculum and the preparation of project-based learning modules. The results of the PKM show that participants have increased knowledge and have the initial ability to design project-based learning modules.

Abstract

This study aims to compare self-identification as a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) person based on the gender of high school students. This study used a quantitative comparative research method. Data were collected through a survey about self-identification as a STEM person (N = 344), which was supported by observational data on student behavior in one class during physics lessons for seven meetings. The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire based on the STEM identity framework, which included interest (2 items), recognition (4 items), and performance-competence (6 items). Data were analyzed through means and independent samples t-tests. The results showed that there was no significant difference between male and female students in identifying themselves as STEM person. The average score for male students is 38.36, and for female students is 38.11. Based on the different test values, it was found that the [t = 0.369; p = 0.713 > 0.05] strengthened that there was no gender difference in identifying as a STEM person. However, the observation’s data indicated that male students tend to be more recognized by others (i.e., peers) in terms of understanding STEM subjects, such as mathematics and science. The findings of this study unboxed the silence on the issue of gender stereotypes in Indonesia, especially in the field of self-identification as a STEM person. More explorations are needed to construct a comprehensive understanding of reducing inequality in education, especially the issue of gender stereotypes in the context of science.

Abstract

This study compares students' self-efficacy in physics learning across three types of schools: Islamic schools, public schools, and private schools. A quantitative research method was employed, focusing on twelfth-grade students during the 2024/2025 academic year. The data were collected using a questionnaire adapted from the Physics Learning Self-Efficacy (PLSE) instrument, which included 31 questionnaire items covering five key indicators. The responses were analyzed using one-way ANOVA with a 5% significance level. The findings indicated that students from Islamic schools demonstrated the highest mean self-efficacy in physics learning, followed by those in public and private schools. Among the five indicators, the Everyday Application (EA) indicator emerged as the strongest across all three school types, particularly in Islamic schools. Further analysis using the Tukey HSD test revealed a significant difference in self-efficacy levels between Islamic schools and both public and private schools, while no significant difference was observed between public and private schools. These results emphasized the critical role of a supportive learning environment, comprehensive teaching strategies, and enhanced practicum activities in fostering students' self-efficacy in physics learning.
