Abstract

Nationalism is a given cultural reality which keeps changing its meaning through out our history. Such changing is partly due to a manipulative exercise by the rulers, partly through socialization of the so called 'national history'. Societal conflict and tention emerged in many part of Indonesia recently has been due to unfinished transformations, yet pursuing the manipulative path of nationalization of nationalism lead us to absurdity of our collective identity. Reconstructing Indonesian historiography is an imperative, whithin which local history should have a fair treatment.

Abstract

This article explains the implications of political-economic shock on the development of two towns; Baubau and Kendari in the 1950s to 1960s. Indonesia in the 1950s general and especially Southeast Sulawesi were politically and economically unstable. This situation happened because the country is still on the stage of finding a balance and political and economic consolidation has not reached the point of equilibrium. As a result, political shock occurred in certain areas due to differences in views, including in South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. One of the political disturbances that influenced the development of the towns was the DI / TII rebellion in the 1950s. One of the effects of political turmoil in two cities, Buton and Kendari, is the flow of rural populations into towns. Military operations to eliminate security disturbances in the towns of Baubau and Kendari support the improvement of infrastructure for access to the town and expand morphology of towns. The author examines, reads, and examines documents archives carefully in South and Southeast Sulawesi. The facts in the archives show that political and economic shocks have a good effect on one thing and not good on another side. The events of political turmoil in Southeast Sulawesi provide important lessons and knowledge about the other side of political and economic shocks.

Abstract

AbstractHistory is always considered unable to make a real contribution when dealing with everyday life that demands things that are pragmatic from the practicalities of a science. Through "hilirisasi" historiography combined with the principles of commodification in the frame of "consuming history", this paper shows that history when understood as historiography is a science that is able to equip both individuals and groups to meet the needs of daily life, as a representation the intelligence and productivity of the nation within the grand framework of entrepreneurship and innovation. History is an inspiration for "dreamers" to take creative, innovative, and productive actions in the Industrial 4.0 and 5.0 eras. As a result, each people who learn history are able to create entrepreneurial opportunities both for themselves and the wider community in order to realize the prosperity of the nation.----------AbstrakSelama ini, sejarah selalu dianggap tidak mampu memberi sumbangan yang nyata ketika berhadapan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari, yang menuntut hal-hal yang bersifat pragmatis dari praktis sebuah ilmu.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper discusses the ability of the Kerinci people to adapt during the recovery process after the earthquake catastrophic in June 1909, when they had to deal with massive damage, environmental changes, various internal limitations, inadequate support from external elements, and the impact of colonial political and military annexation. The research utilizes colonial government report documents, written records of eyewitnesses, newspaper reports, and oral traditions. Inspired by the concept of "everyday forms of resistance" from James C. Scott, the daily life of Kerinci people is understood as a resistance which is able to break free from dependency by utilizing its own socio-cultural potential. The Kerinci people fought against the disruption of the earthquake and were able to transform helplessness into strength. They did not depend on the colonial government in the process of rebuilding and recovering after the earthquake, because adat which has synergized with religion and love for the homeland, is able to make the population survive.

Abstract

This South part of Sulawesi has very important function in commodity trading. In such trading, there are linked connections that have produced trade contact to the outside world as well as created important traf- fic, particularly in Makassar. This commerce connection expansion politic succeed in realizing the goal to put Makassar as the only trading central in this area. Traders and seamen of Bugis, Makassar, Selayar, Malay and Portugese who carry out commercial voyage have made Makassar as transit harbor and pro- duction market. Makassar appears as main port in trading connection with production region and making connection with other trading ports located in east, south, west and north parts. The happening political growth has forced the Dutch Government to reform its economical policy, partic- ularly in putting Makassar Harbor as one of free harbor under the Dutch Government control. The Gov- ernment also able to extend its influence towards the self-governing monarchies in this region, therefore it might prevent the wish of other countries that are active in conducting trading to South East Asia to make authority connection with them. The Government is implementing the free harbor policy in order to at- tract and centralize trading acitivities in south part. The Dutch Government also regularly investigates and handles commodity prices in Makassar under agri- culture consultants supervision, such as rice, coffee, corn, cotton, resin, rattan, etc. These prices are ad- dressed to local and available authorities as notification concerning market price. This matter points at central government involvement and now there are a lot of commodity products, so that the Government is forced to be involved by implementing prohibition upon commodity import, particularly rice. Keywords: trading, harbor, commodity, economy
