Abstract

[MKB. 2010;42(1):6-11].Nasal Scrapping Eosinophil As a Diagnostic Test for Allergic RhinitisAllergic rhinitis is clinically defined as a symptomatic disorder of the nose induced by IgE mediated inflammation. Allergic Rhinitis and Its Impact on Asthma (ARIA-WHO) recommended the use of skin prick test (SPT) as a diagnostic test, but the facility to acquire this method is not always available at some of the health centres, therefore alternative diagnostic test should be performed such as nasal smear eosinophil count. The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of nasal smear eosinophilia compared with SPT for the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis. A diagnostic study using the cross sectional design, conducted in Department of ORL-HNS at FKUP-RSHS (February-April 2005). Fifty patients with a clinical history suggestive of nasal allergy were studied. A positive SPTwas demonstrated in 78% of the study population, 76% of the patients demonstrated positive eosinophil count. There was 64% correlation between positive SPT and nasal eosinophil and it was statistically significant (X2= 3.559;p=0.03). The sensitivity of nasal smear eosinophilia count was 82.1% (95% CI 82.02-82.18), specificity 64.3% (95%CI 63.52-65.08), and accuracy 74% (95% CI 73.94-74.06). The eosinophil count of nasal scrapping can be used as the replacement of the SPT at the health centre which do not have the SPT facility. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15395/mkb.v42n1.2

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The aims of this article is to find out how the effects of omega 3 supplementation and physical exercise on the inflammatory response. The method applied is literature review. The results showed that omega 3 supplementation and regular exercise can reduce the inflammatory response that is not controlled. Inflammation is a protective response caused by injury or tissue damage. After physical activity the body will experienced an increase in inflammatory markers, namely C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Interleukin 1 (IL-1), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Interleukin 10 (IL-10) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-a (TNF-a). Physical exercise, especially high-intensity eccentric exercises, will cause damage to muscle fibers and delayed muscle pain (DOMS) which results in disruption to muscle strength. Muscle pain is caused by an inflammatory process due to increased levels (TNF-a) in response to muscle damage. Inflammatory response that is not controlled can be controlled by giving omega 3 supplementation. It can be concluded that omega 3 supplementation and regular exercise are proven to reduce the inflammatory response that is not controlled, soto reduce the intensity of pain which support the performance in carrying out the exercise program.

Abstract

Abstract This study discusses the relations between the tradition of power, the production of space, and city growth. This study primarily aimed to comprehend the spatial pattern and process of the production of authority space and its implications for city growth. It covers the geopolitical situation in Java during the 16th and 17th centuries when the Mataram Sultanate ran a dominant power based on ricefield tradition. The analysis method applied in this study referred to hermeneutical thinking, which foregrounds a text reading method. The research data was obtained from secondary resources, especially published research in the forms of articles, books, maps, and seminar papers. The analysis results showed that the spatial pattern and process of authority space production within these centuries were dominated by neutralization and the formation of peripheries, i.e., the consequence of the king’s absolute power. This production mode resulted in the political liquidation of certain cities and, thereby, changed the identity of the said cities, especially those located in coastal areas.

Abstract

The article discusses the forming of ethnic identity among Batak and Malay people in Tapanuli during colonial period. The colonial government that desired to expand its hegemony among these ethnic groups had led them to create policies and boundaries for the groups in Tapanuli. This study uses historical method (heuristic) that begins from sources collection, sources critique, interpretation and explanation. Constructive approach is used to analyze the sources that considers ethnic identity is a result of construction process of a particular group. This article shows that in pre-colonial period it was difficult to determine ethnical boundaries in Tapanuli, particularly the Malay, Minangkabau, and Batak. However, after the Dutch government expanded its expansion to this region, the ethnical boundaries began to form and the differences among them became apparent. Ethnic segregation policy implemented by the Dutch and its support to the Batak ethnic group and the Christian obviously had formed and changed the awareness of ethnic identity among Batak and Malay people. In the early 20th century, the colonial government featured and strengthened the ethnic identity awareness in Batak community.

Abstract

Nationalism is a given cultural reality which keeps changing its meaning through out our history. Such changing is partly due to a manipulative exercise by the rulers, partly through socialization of the so called 'national history'. Societal conflict and tention emerged in many part of Indonesia recently has been due to unfinished transformations, yet pursuing the manipulative path of nationalization of nationalism lead us to absurdity of our collective identity. Reconstructing Indonesian historiography is an imperative, whithin which local history should have a fair treatment.

Abstract

This article explains the implications of political-economic shock on the development of two towns; Baubau and Kendari in the 1950s to 1960s. Indonesia in the 1950s general and especially Southeast Sulawesi were politically and economically unstable. This situation happened because the country is still on the stage of finding a balance and political and economic consolidation has not reached the point of equilibrium. As a result, political shock occurred in certain areas due to differences in views, including in South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. One of the political disturbances that influenced the development of the towns was the DI / TII rebellion in the 1950s. One of the effects of political turmoil in two cities, Buton and Kendari, is the flow of rural populations into towns. Military operations to eliminate security disturbances in the towns of Baubau and Kendari support the improvement of infrastructure for access to the town and expand morphology of towns. The author examines, reads, and examines documents archives carefully in South and Southeast Sulawesi. The facts in the archives show that political and economic shocks have a good effect on one thing and not good on another side. The events of political turmoil in Southeast Sulawesi provide important lessons and knowledge about the other side of political and economic shocks.
