Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe students' mathematical communication skills by integrating information technology in a collaborative problem-based learning model designed by teachers and lecturers through a lesson study learning community. The research subjects were 36 students in grade tenth (X.4) at SMA Srijaya Negara Palembang in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research is a mix method with quantitative and qualitative techniques. This research has four stages, namely: plan, do, see, and retrospective analysis. The instruments of this research are test questions, observation sheets, and interview guidelines. Data analysis techniques use quantitative and qualitative. Test result data is scored based on a scoring rubric. Observation data is a percentage based on the appearance of indicators. Test and observation data are categorized into five categories, namely: very good, good, enough, less, and poor. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that students were able to speak language and convey ideas for solutions well. However, there are students who have difficulty expressing concepts and reading mathematical notation both in writing and orally. This low ability is influenced by several factors such as low student activity during learning and discussions, low interest, lack of self-confidence, and from the cognitive aspect it is influenced by low levels of accuracy and habits in solving problems. So, it can be concluded that students' mathematical communication skills after learning using a problem-based learning model and integrating information technology through lesson study learning communities are categorized as enough.

Abstract

Introduction: The smoking ban policy in Indonesia has not been fully complied with by the community, one of which is the policy of prohibiting smoking in schools. Smoking behavior at school is influenced by several factors such as knowledge, environmental influences, experience, and perception. One factor in the lack of compliance with the no-smoking policy in schools is the perception of a smoking ban. Objective: This study aims to determine students' perceptions regarding smoking bans in the school environment. Method:  This research uses qualitative research methods with a case study approach. Result and Discussion: In terms of information, it has run optimally. In terms of social rules, the school has implemented the rules firmly, but it is not optimal enough because there are still students who do not obey. In terms of experience, students only know about the smoking ban in the school environment when they first enter JHS, have curiosity and pleasure when consuming cigarettes. The environment of students shows that parents and friends of students are very influential. Conclusion: Students' perceptions of smoking bans are influenced by parental factors that often smoke in front of children, and peers who become friends of students to smoke together. This makes students less compliant with the policies that have been implemented by the school

Abstract

The prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is an important health problem due to the association with increased cardiovascular disease as the main cause of death. Approximately 20-25% of the global adult population including Indonesia suffers from MetS. The high prevalence is attributed to several factors namely lifestyle changes such as dietary habit and physical activity. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between dietary habit and physical activity with MetS incidence among civil servant employees in Jambi City, Indonesia. A cross-sectional design was used to assess the proportion of MetS, dietary habit, and physical activity. A total of 108 civil servant employees were selected as respondents from six agencies using a multistage random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through physical examination and interviews using a questionnaire. The results showed that the prevalence of MetS was 60.2%, with three risk indicators, namely central obesity (74.1%), blood pressure (66.7%), and HDL (63%). Based on the chi-square test, dietary habit (OR=2.571, 95%CI=1.151-5.744) and physical activity (OR=3.692, 95%CI=1.625-8.388) were significantly related to MetS. The persistently high prevalence of MetS was significantly related to dietary habit and physical activity among civil servant employees in Jambi City-Indonesia. These results underscored the need to improve understanding of healthy diets by adopting a balanced nutritional intake, increasing the intensity of physical activity according to age, and engaging in regular exercise.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the function of references within Selena Gomez's Billboard Woman of the Year speech through a comprehensive analysis. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data obtained from a YouTube video posted by the Global TV team on December 2, 2018. To analyze the data, this research utilizes discourse analysis theory from Halliday and Hasan (2013). The study focuses on identifying types of references and what grammatical cohesion is found in each type of reference within the framework of discourse analysis. The distribution of found references is as follows: 49 (35.8%) data for anaphoric reference, 16 (11.7%) for cataphoric reference, and 5 (3.6%) for exophoric reference. In terms of grammatical cohesion, the data are distributed as follows: 32 (23.4%) data for pronouns, 33 (24.1%) for lexical cohesion, and 1 (0.7%) for ellipsis. The study employs systemic functional linguistics (SFL) to delve into speech functions, emphasizing the importance of grammar and language in effective communication. By examining Selena Gomez's speech, the research aims to uncover underlying meanings and cultural influences embedded in her references. Discourse analysis, as a tool, allows for a broader understanding of language's role in society communication, particularly within the realm of celebrity culture. Keywords: Anaphoric, Cataphoric, Exophoric, Discourse Analysis, Reference, Youtube Video
