Abstract

Internationalization plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality and global recognition of Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia. This study investigates how these institutions implement internationalization by drawing insights from the experience of Monash University in Australia. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews and document analysis. The findings indicate that while Islamic higher education institutions have implemented key aspects of internationalization, there is still room for improvement. Institutions must continuously enhance educational quality while maintaining their unique identity to attract international students. Greater autonomy in financial and administrative management is necessary to align Islamic universities with other leading public institutions. Policy support from the government is essential in ensuring institutional autonomy and protecting human resource rights without excessive intervention. Seeking international accreditation through relevant accrediting bodies is also critical in strengthening global competitiveness. These findings highlight the need for strategic efforts by university leaders, government, and stakeholders to advance the internationalization agenda in Islamic higher education. Strengthening institutional autonomy, improving quality standards, and achieving international accreditation will contribute to greater global engagement and recognition of Islamic universities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the experiences of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in delivering inclusive instruction at elementary schools in Sleman, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were gathered through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving five educators across three schools. The findings reveal that inclusive practices in PAI are facilitated through collaboration among PAI teachers, classroom teachers, and Special Companion Teachers (GPK), as well as the use of individualized strategies and multimedia resources. However, challenges persist, including limited infrastructure, lack of inclusive training, and insufficient parental involvement. The study highlights the need for systemic support, capacity building, and inclusive pedagogical innovation. It contributes to the discourse on inclusive religious education by integrating theological values with inclusive practices, offering implications for policy development and teacher training.

Abstract

This study raises Muhammad Iqbal's thoughts on the formulation of scientific methodology that integrates philosophy and education, especially in the development of comprehensive and transformative Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The background of this study departs from the reality of being divided into two between Western education and traditional Islamic education which tends to be speculative and less responsive to the development of science and technology. Muhammad Iqbal offers a new framework of thought by emphasizing the importance of synthesis between empirical experience and spiritual intuition as the basis of Islamic epistemology. This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data were obtained through a literature review of Iqbal's primary and secondary works, and were analyzed using content analysis, historical analysis, and narrative-philosophical analysis methods. The research findings show that Muhammad Iqbal's educational thoughts include the duality of physics and metaphysics, and emphasize the importance of developing individuality, physical-spiritual integration, and the role of the intellect and the whispers of the heart in the educational process. His scientific construction makes a significant contribution to the formulation of educational goals, student character, curriculum, and learning methods in PAI. Thus, Iqbal's thoughts are relevant as a basis for reformulating an Islamic education model that is contextual, rational, and remains rooted in Islamic spiritual values.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the application of Jean Piaget’s constructivist methodology in the development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Using a qualitative approach through library research, this study explores the epistemological and ontological framework of Piaget’s constructivism, which emphasizes that learners actively construct knowledge through interaction with their environment and cognitive developmental stages. The application of this approach in PAI includes gradual and contextual material development, interactive and experience-based learning methods, and the teacher’s role as a facilitator. The findings indicate that Piaget’s constructivism positively contributes to a more meaningful, critical, and reflective PAI learning process. However, challenges remain, including age limitations of the theory, potential misinterpretations, and the lack of integration of spiritual dimensions. Therefore, methodological adjustments are necessary to effectively implement this theory within the holistic context of Islamic education.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to various aspects of life, including education, particularly Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Generation Z, as a generation growing up amidst technological advancements, possesses distinctive characteristics, such as high digital adaptability, interactive learning patterns, and openness to global information. However, these conditions also present challenges in the form of low control over digital media use, a moral crisis, and a weakening of spiritual values among the younger generation. This study aims to analyze the perspective of Islamic education in facing the development of the digital era in Generation Z, while also examining the role of digital technology in supporting the Islamic education process. The study used a library research method with a descriptive-qualitative approach through analysis of various literature sources, such as scientific journals, books, articles, and relevant research results. The results show that Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping the character of Generation Z by strengthening moral values, spirituality, digital literacy, and religious moderation. In addition, the use of digital technology in Islamic education, such as e-learning, social media, and interactive learning platforms, can increase learning effectiveness when integrated with Islamic values. Therefore, Islamic education is required to be adaptive to technological developments without ignoring the basic principles of religion, so that it can produce a generation that is critical, creative, adaptive, and still has a strong Islamic identity in the digital era.

Abstract

Abstract : The advancement of digital technology has transformed students' learning patterns while simultaneously presenting challenges for strengthening religious character. High levels of engagement with social media, digital games, and various internet platforms influence students' behavior, values, and moral awareness, requiring Islamic Religious Education teachers to adopt adaptive educational strategies. This study aims to analyze the strategies employed by Islamic Religious Education teachers at SMAN 1 Tapango to strengthen students' religious character in the digital era. The study utilizes a field research approach with a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The findings reveal that Islamic Religious Education teachers implement four primary strategies: habituating religious activities, modeling religious behavior, supervising and guiding social media usage, and fostering collaboration between the school and parents. The success of these strategies is supported by school policies and the active involvement of the principal, teachers, and parents; conversely, excessive use of social media and digital games, along with low student participation in religious activities, serve as major obstacles. The study concludes that strengthening religious character in the digital era requires an integrated approach combining habituation, role modeling, digital guidance, and sustained cooperation between schools and families to ensure that technological advancements are positively leveraged in shaping students' religious character. Abstract

The development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT and Gemini, has transformed the way students acquire, verify, and interpret information in the learning process. However, the cognitive and epistemological dynamics of students interacting with AI remain underexplored. This study aims to: (1) analyze how students position AI as a learning assistant or a learning dependency; (2) investigate the verification strategies students use to assess the accuracy of AI outputs; (3) examine the impact of AI use on learning autonomy and Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) abilities; and (4) elucidate students’ ethical and epistemological reflections in assessing truth in the digital era. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological design, involving 10 students from the Islamic Education Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga who actively use generative AI in academic activities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The findings indicate that students fall along a spectrum of AI utilization, ranging from supportive learning use to cognitive dependency. Verification strategies vary as well, from rigorous literature-based verification to algorithmic trust, relying on the logic or academic appearance of AI responses. AI usage affects SRL differently: integrative use strengthens planning and reflection, whereas substitutive use leads to cognitive offloading, weakening learning autonomy. Furthermore, students’ ethical and epistemological reflections reveal differing levels of understanding regarding the probabilistic nature of knowledge generated by AI.
