Abstract

This study examines the causal relationships between Leadership perception, interpersonal communication, work climate, and lecturers' job satisfaction. Rapid changes in Islamic higher education governance require a deeper understanding of how organisational dynamics shape academic Wellbeing and institutional performance. Using a quantitative, path-analytic approach, this research investigates both direct and indirect effects among the four variables. Data were collected from 100 lecturers selected through the Krejcie and Morgan sampling Table, using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing. The findings indicate that Leadership perception and interpersonal communication significantly influence work climate, with interpersonal communication emerging as the strongest predictor. Leadership perception, interpersonal communication, and work climate each have significant direct effects on job satisfaction, with work climate making the most important contribution. The analysis also confirms that work climate partially mediates the relationship between Leadership perception and interpersonal communication toward job satisfaction. The structural model demonstrates strong explanatory power, accounting for 85 per cent of the variance in work climate and 87 per cent of the variance in job satisfaction. These results imply the essential role of supportive Leadership practices, open communication, and a cohesive work environment in enhancing lecturer satisfaction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparative curriculum management models between Islamic educational institutions and public educational institutions within the context of the national education system in Indonesia. The main focus of this study is to identify the similarities, differences, strengths, and weaknesses of the two curriculum management models. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with literature review and observation of curriculum management practices in madrasas and public schools. The results show that both madrasas and public schools have curriculum management structures that follow national standards, but madrasas integrate Islamic religious values into all aspects of learning. Madrasas tend to emphasize the spiritual, moral, and character dimensions of Islam through a curriculum based on the integration of religious and general knowledge. Meanwhile, public schools focus more on mastering academic competencies and practical skills as stipulated in the independent curriculum policy. The strength of madrasah curriculum management lies in the development of strong morals and religious values, while its weakness is limited innovation in the application of technology and contextual learning. In contrast, public schools excel in implementing adaptive learning models and digitalization, but face challenges in strengthening students' spiritual character. This study confirms that synergy between curriculum management models in madrasas and public schools can be an ideal solution for creating a holistic curriculum, balancing religious values and academic competencies. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for policymakers, educators, and curriculum developers in optimizing curriculum management that is relevant to the needs of the 21st century.

Abstract

Oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) is an abundant lignocellulosic residue whose high lignin content restricts its bioconversion into sugars and value-added products. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs), particularly choline chloride–lactic acid, offer a green and tunable platform for selective delignification and biomass fractionation. This study investigates the effects of ChCl:LA (1:2) DES pretreatment under varying temperatures (100–140 °C) and reaction times (3-6 h) on the chemical composition, structural modification, delignification kinetics, and enzymatic digestibility of OPEFB. A modified combined delignification factor (CDF) was developed to unify temperature, time, and DES acidity into a single severity descriptor. Delignification followed a biphasic pattern successfully captured by the CDF-based kinetic model (R² = 0.9961), with activation energy of 63.5 kJ.mol⁻¹. Increasing pretreatment severity enhanced hemicellulose and lignin removal (up to 95.5% and 84.4%), while cellulose remained largely preserved. SEM, XRD, and FTIR analyses confirmed progressive disruption of the lignin–carbohydrate matrix, increased cellulose exposure, and removal of amorphous domains. As a result, enzymatic hydrolysis yield improved by more than twofold relative to untreated biomass, reaching 75.5% at 140 °C for 6 h. Mass-balance evaluation demonstrated that from 100 g OPEFB, DES pretreatment yielded 21.6 g glucose and 24.7 g recoverable lignin under optimal conditions. Compared to other pretreatment strategies, the ChCl:LA DES system achieved a balanced co-production of sugars and lignin in significantly shorter processing time. Overall, this work provides mechanistic, kinetic, and mass-balance insights into DES-assisted fractionation of OPEFB and highlights its potential in integrated multiproduct biorefineries.
