Abstract

Employee performance is a factor that plays an important role in achieving company and individual goals. If the people in the company are not performing well, the company will have a hard time achieving its goals. Employees must be knowledgeable, devoted, submissive, disciplined, and accountable for every job performed and completed in order to meet organizational goals. Companies, especially governmental organizations, should ideally develop organizational culture so that employees have values, norms, references, and principles that must be followed. This study sought to ascertain how organizational culture and pay affected employee performance and satisfaction at PT Pegadaian Kendari Branch in Kendari City. In this study the population numbered 33 people because the population was small, so the authors took a saturated sampling technique so that the sample size was also 33 people. Path analysis is the analytical technique utilized. The findings of this study show that organizational culture and compensation factors significantly and favorably affect employee performance as measured by job satisfaction.

Abstract

Nickel is an important main resource mineral in Southeast Sulawesi, which has deposited around 97.4 billion tons, and undoubtedly, nickel exports emerged in national and regional economic growth. Mining activities were carried out through topsoil and subsoil stripping, resulting in damage to the soil ecosystem and making it difficult for soil to recover. A study was performed to evaluate the changes in soil chemical properties and the growth of patchouli (Pogestemon cablin Benth) on nickel-mined soil treated with rice husk charcoal (RHC). A randomized block design was applied in this study, including six treatments of RHC with three replications. The treatments were without RHC (control), 1.5%, 3.0%, 4.5%, 6%, and 7.5% of soil weight. Data were analyzed descriptively for soil chemical properties; meanwhile, ANOVA was applied for plant growth. The results revealed that RHC increased soil pH, organic C, CEC, and available P, and conversely, the application of 4.5% of RHC decreased soil Ni and Fe content by 65.43% and 40.47%, respectively. The application of RHC up to 6% increased significantly the plant height and number of leaves as well as the dry weight of patchouli. The present study concluded that the use of carbon-rich soil conditioners such as rice husk charcoal is an imperative measure to restore the nickel-mined soil.

Abstract

Ultisol dry land is characterized by significantly low organic carbon content, an important factor influencing soil water content and physico-chemical dynamics. The addition of N fertilizer dissolved in seaweed liquid extract as an enrichment solution can change the character of biochar. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the characteristics of cogongrass biochar enriched with dissolved N fertilizer in seaweed extract of different species and assess its impact on soil water content in Ultisol. Urea was used as a nitrogen source, and biochar enriched with N fertilizer dissolved in seaweed liquid extract from Kappapychus alvarezii, Sargassum sp., and Ulva lactuca was tested. Biochar dose used was 20% of soil weight with a 10% extract concentration for each type. Furthermore, five-level treatments were tested in a pot experiment, namely (i) without biochar, (ii) biochar unenriched, (iii) enriched with N fertilizer dissolved in K. alvarezii extract, (iv) enriched with N fertilizer dissolved in Sargassum sp. extract, and (v) biochar enriched with N fertilizer dissolved in U. lactuca extract. Each treatment was repeated three times, following a randomized block design. The results showed that cogongrass biochar enriched with N fertilizer dissolved in seaweed extract had a more amorphous surface morphology structure. The proportion of elements and functional groups in cogongrass biochar changed. Enriched biochar increased Ultisol moisture levels, but water holding capacity and retention were lower than the unenriched sample.
