Abstract

This study highlights the low English writing and speaking skills of students of the Information Systems Study Program at Nurdin Hamzah University. To address this challenge, a rule-based expert system application named M.E.G.A for Job Seekers was developed using the ADDIE model approach (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). This application functions as a self-assessment tool to improve students' professional communication readiness, especially in compiling CVs, job application letters, and interview preparation. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with subjects consisting of language experts, instructional media experts, and educational technology experts to validate the product. Meanwhile, 100 second-semester students of the Information Systems Study Program at Nurdin Hamzah University were used as the sample for testing the practicality, attractiveness, and effectiveness of the application. This study used quantitative data from questionnaires and tests, as well as qualitative data from open-ended responses by experts and students. The quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while the qualitative data were validated through triangulation and content analysis to support the development of the application. The results showed high scores in the aspects of functionality, attractiveness of appearance, and improvement of learning outcomes. Pre-test and post-test analysis showed significant improvements, while statistical analysis supported the pedagogical reliability of this system. The application has proven effective in supporting independent learning that is relevant to the needs of the world of work and has the potential to be adopted by other study programs. This study contributes to the development of digital learning through the integration of AI-based expert systems for the development of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) have emerged as the leading teaching methods of this century. Thus, this study investigates the students preferences and experiences with PjBL and PBL in the development of writing skills at an Islamic university in Indonesia. Utilizing the qualitative analysis framework proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994), this research provides an in-depth examination of the students experiences, preferences, and the pedagogical efficacy of these two approaches. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the students who participated in writing courses that incorporated both PjBL and PBL strategies, allowing for a comprehensive comparison of their impacts on writing skills. The findings reveal that PjBL was particularly effective in enhancing the students writing abilities by nurturing sustained engagement, enabling thorough content exploration, and supporting iterative refinement through extended project work that integrates research, critical thinking, and feedback. In contrast, PBL proved valuable in promoting critical thinking and concise writing by utilizing structured problem-solving tasks. Overall, the study contributes to the discourse on effective writing instruction in higher education by suggesting that, while PjBL offered a more comprehensive framework for writing development, PBL served as a practical complementary method. The combined use of these strategies could, therefore, provide a balanced framework for enhancing the students academic writing proficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the specific factors influencing academic staff’s readiness for organizational change at Islamic State University (IAIN) Kerinci, Indonesia, focusing on the mediating role of internal communication. The study examines the direct and indirect effects of organizational change readiness, transformational leadership behavior, and internal communication on staff readiness to change. A sample of 118 academic staff (40 male and 78 female) participated in this empirical study. Data were collected using an online survey, employing a Likert scale to measure the constructs. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the hypotheses, with the PLS Algorithm assessing the measurement model and PLS Bootstrapping testing the structural model for mediation effects. Results revealed that organizational change readiness, transformational leadership behavior, and internal communication each have a significant positive effect on staff readiness for change. Internal communication was found to mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational change readiness on academic staff's readiness for change. Key statistical results include a significant p-value (p < 0.05) and strong mediation effects, further emphasizing the importance of effective internal communication in facilitating organizational change. The cross-sectional survey design introduces limitations, including potential response bias due to self-reporting.This study contributes to the literature on organizational change by highlighting the role of internal communication as a mediator and the unique context of Islamic higher education institutions.
