Abstract

The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of PBL contextual approaches to problem solving abilities, analyze the problem solving abilities that are subjected to PBL contextual approaches based on metacognitive awareness. The research method used is mixed methods with a concurrent embedded model. The population in this study were students of class VIII SMP N 1 Mejobo Kudus in the 2018/2019 school year. Data collection uses documentation, questionnaires, test results and interviews. Using the cluster random sampling technique, one experimental class and one control class were obtained. The results showed that PBL learning was an effective contextual approach to students' problem solving abilities. Students with high, moderate and low metacognitive awareness experience the same mathematical problem solving abilities. Students with high metacognitive awareness after learning are able to master all stages of problem solving. Students with metacognitive awareness are able to master the stage of understanding the problem and implementing the plan while the stage of making plans and checking back tends to be able. Students with low metacognitive awareness before learning are less able in all stages of improvement. After learning to be able to understand the problem, tend to be able to carry out plans, make plans and check again.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the ability of students' problem-solving based on adversity quotient. This study is a mixed-method with sequential explanatory design. The subject of the study is the 8th-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Miomaffo Timur in the school year of 2018/2019 with class VIII A as the experimental class subject to problem-based learning models with peer feedback and class VIII B as the control class subject to discovery learning models. Quantitative data collection was obtained from the test results of the problem-solving ability of material flat side geometry and qualitative data collection was done by interviewing the results of the problem-solving ability tests through a model of problem-based learning with peer feedback. The result revealed that learning model problem based learning with effective peer feedback and a description of problem-solving abilities in terms of adversity quotient in the high, medium and low categories of the problem-based learning model with peer feedback had various results. It is shown from 4 quitter students, there was no high problem-solving ability, 2 students at no medium problem-solving ability and 2 students at low problem-solving ability. From 15 camper students, 6 students have high problem-solving abilities, 7 students have medium problem-solving abilities, and 2 students who have low problem-solving abilities. From 13 climber students, 5 students had high problem-solving abilities, 7 students had medium problem-solving abilities, and 1 student who had low problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

This study was aimed at understanding the diagnostic description of the students' errors types according to Newman in solving the questions of mathematical problem-solving. This study was qualitative. Purposive sampling was used in this study that based on Newman's theory of five errors' types, namely reading error, comprehension error, transformation error, process skill error, and encoding error. The instruments used in this study were the test of the ability to solve mathematical problem and interview. The subject of the study was grouped based on the errors conducted by the eighth-grade students of MTs Al Ma’arif Rakit in solving the question. The result showed that the students' error was varied. The diagnostic results showed that among the 26 students who did four exercises of mathematical problem solving, 3 students did the reading error, 6 students did the comprehension error, 7 students did the transformation error, 9 students did the process skill error, and 11 students did the encoding error.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze mathematics critical thinking of students on Quantum Learning model with Peer Assessment. This mixed method with sequential explanatory took fifth graders of whole Mayong district, Jepara municipal, in academic year 2018/2019 as the population. The sample consisted of chosen classes: VA and VB. The subjects were six VA students chosen based on three critical thinking groups: high, moderate, and poor. The techniques of collecting data used mathematics critical thinking skill test, peer assessment observation, and interview. The findings showed that Quantum Learning model learning with Peer Assessment was effective to improve mathematics critical thinking skill. On high group category students, they could meet all indicators well. The moderate group students had not been able to meet an indicator, the evaluation. The poor group category students had two unfulfilled indicators, namely evaluation and explanation. Based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that the quantum learning model with peer assessment is effective in improving student’s critical thinking skill in mathematics.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to examine the presence or absence of influence and the influence of the use of learning contextual teaching and learning to the learning outcomes of Natural Sciences in the fourth grade students of Elementary School Negeri Gugus I Pontianak Selatan. The research method used is experimental with quasi experimental design and nonquivalent control group design. The sample of this research is students of class IV B and IV C State Elementary School 35 South Pontianak. Data collection techniques used are measurement techniques. Data collection tool used is the test of student learning outcomes in the form of multiple choice amounted to 40 questions. Based on the result of the research, the average of students 'learning outcomes in the control class is 69 while the average of the students' learning outcomes in the experimental class is 76,5. The result of hypothesis test (t-test) using t-test separated variance obtained tcount of 4.54 and ttable (? = 5% and dk = 67) equal to 1.6695 indicates that tcount is greater than ttable then Ha is accepted. This means that there are differences in learning outcomes between students taught by using learning contextual teaching and learning with students taught without using learning contextual teaching and learning. From the calculation of effect size (ES), obtained 0.77 (medium criterion). Learning contextual teaching and learning gives a moderate influence on the result of learning of Natural Sciences on the fourth grade students of Elementary School of State I of Pontianak Selatan. Keywords: contextual teaching and learning learning, learning outcomes, natural sciences.
