Abstract

Teachers' lived experiences significantly shape their teaching approaches, particularly in Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL), where understanding these experiences is essential for improving instructional practices.  This qualitative phenomenological study explored EFL teachers' challenges in TEYL and their strategies to overcome them in elementary schools in Palembang.  Data were collected through interviews and classroom observations with teachers with at least five years of experience in these school settings.  The findings revealed three primary challenges: difficulties in managing classroom activities, the unique learning characteristics of young learners, and the use of Indonesian language during English lessons.  To address these challenges, teachers employed strategies such as incorporating games into lessons, fostering a creative and engaging learning environment, encouraging consistent English usage by students, and consulting resources on young learners' language acquisition.  The study underscores the importance of flexible, adaptive strategies in overcoming challenges in TEYL, highlighting how a better understanding of young learners' needs can improve the effectiveness of English teaching.

Abstract

Thesis writing is a critical milestone for undergraduate students, yet it presents unique challenges for EFL learners who must navigate linguistic barriers alongside academic demands. In contexts where English is not the primary language, these challenges become even more pronounced, affecting both students’ writing competencies and the effectiveness of supervisory support. This study aimed to identify the primary challenges in thesis writing and supervision from the perspectives of undergraduate EFL students and their supervisors at a state university in South Sumatra, Indonesia. Additionally, it sought to uncover the reasons behind these difficulties and explore solutions proposed by supervisors to assist students in completing their undergraduate theses. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved 70 undergraduate students engaged in thesis writing and six lecturers serving as supervisors. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, with questionnaire data analyzed using percentage analysis and interview data subjected to thematic analysis. The findings revealed that students face challenges related to writing competencies and perceptions of supervisory support, including issues with topic selection, grammar, and effective communication. Supervisors identified seven key challenges and proposed actionable solutions, such as fostering consistent communication, encouraging extensive literature review, and improving adherence to institutional guidelines. These findings emphasize the need for a collaborative and structured approach to address the multifaceted challenges of thesis writing for EFL students.

Abstract

The conditions in Pucak Village, Tompobulu District, Maros Regency illustrate the enormous regional potential for managing natural resources in the era of regional autonomy, where the Diffusion and Utilization of Science and Technology Programs in remote villages have not been optimally studied. The desired impact of this program is the use of natural resources in the village to become an alternative energy source, namely renewable energy through the production of biogas from cow dung. The service is aimed at providing knowledge to residents about the use of new and renewable energy sources, namely energy produced with appropriate technology that is relatively simple and suitable for rural areas. Biogas processing provides many benefits for residents in managing livestock manure into biogas energy as an alternative fuel that is environmentally friendly, where processing livestock waste into biogas can reduce environmental pollution, where waste is managed into alternative fuels, where the results of waste management have disposal which is then reprocessed into solid or liquid organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Abstract

Public speaking is a strategic communication skill in supporting the effectiveness of da'wah. From a contemporary perspective, da'wah is no longer merely understood as conveying normative messages, but also as a means of empowering the community. This article aims to analyze the relevance of transformative public speaking as a da'wah medium that is not only informative, but also participatory and drives social change. The research method used is a literature study with a descriptive-analytical approach. The results of the study indicate that transformative public speaking is able to integrate aspects of ethos, pathos, and logos in da'wah communication so that da'i can build credibility, engage the audience's emotions, and convey logical arguments that encourage critical awareness. Da'wah based on transformative public speaking has implications for increasing the spiritual, intellectual, and social capacity of the community. These findings emphasize that da'wah in the digital era needs to be oriented towards strengthening the capacity of the community through transformative public speaking skills.
