Abstract

This study aims to examine the key determinants driving the growth of the middle class in Indonesia through the lens of Islamic economics, with particular emphasis on education, Islamic capital market investment, and Islamic bank financing. Employing a quantitative approach, the research utilizes multiple linear regression analysis on time series data spanning from 2021 to 2024, processed using SPSS 25. The findings reveal that all three variables exert a statistically significant and positive impact on middle-class expansion. Education contributes to human capital development and employability; Islamic capital market investment fosters asset accumulation and equitable wealth distribution; and Islamic bank financing enhances access to productive capital, particularly for small-scale entrepreneurs and transitioning lower-income households. Collectively, these factors account for 87.4% of the variance in middle-class growth, underscoring their pivotal role in shaping the Islamic economic ecosystem. The results underscore the imperative to elevate financial literacy, broaden inclusive education, and improve the accessibility of Sharia-compliant financial instruments to accelerate and sustain middle-class advancement. Future research is encouraged to incorporate sociocultural and regional variables—such as urban-rural dynamics, religious practices, and digital financial behavior—to capture more nuanced influences and further validate the resilience of the Islamic economic model in fostering inclusive development

Abstract

General Background: Economic disparities between regions in Indonesia remain a persistent development challenge. Specific Background: Langkat Regency, situated within North Sumatra Province, reflects a localized case of uneven growth requiring focused assessment. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies have examined sector-specific contributions, particularly the "Other Services" sector, to regional growth using comparative and quantitative frameworks. Aims: This study aims to analyze and compare economic development and inequality between North Sumatra Province and Langkat Regency, focusing on the 2021–2024 period. Results: Utilizing data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and applying the Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) and shift-share methods, the analysis reveals an average increase of IDR 14.87 billion in the Other Services sector, with a shift-share contribution of IDR 2.07 billion from 2023 to 2024. Novelty: The study integrates DLQ and shift-share analysis to isolate and evaluate the basic sector's dynamics within a regency-province framework, an approach not commonly applied in prior research on Langkat. Implications: These findings indicate robust sectoral growth potential and provide an empirical foundation for regional economic planning, emphasizing the strategic development of the Other Services sector to reduce intra-provincial inequality and enhance local economic resilience. Highlights: Highlights the growth potential of the Other Services sector in Langkat Regency. Uses DLQ and shift-share methods for sector-based economic comparison. Offers strategic insights for reducing regional economic disparities. Keywords: Regional Development, Economic Inequality, DLQ, Shift-Share Analysis, Other Services Sector

Abstract

General Background: Islamic mutual funds in Indonesia have grown rapidly as ethical investment instruments aligned with sharia principles. Specific Background: Their performance, however, remains sensitive to macroeconomic dynamics such as inflation, BI Rate, and economic growth (GDP). Knowledge Gap: Previous studies often use Net Asset Value (NAV) as a proxy for performance and show inconsistent results, while limited attention is given to ROI as a direct measure of investor returns. Aims: This study aims to analyze the effect of inflation, BI Rate, and GDP on the Return on Investment (ROI) of Islamic mutual funds in Indonesia from 2020 to 2024. Results: Using monthly secondary data and multiple linear regression, the findings show that inflation and the BI Rate have a significant positive effect on ROI, while GDP has a significant negative effect. Novelty: This study differs from previous research by using ROI instead of NAV and includes the latest post-pandemic data, providing more relevant empirical insights. Implications: These results suggest that Islamic mutual funds are more responsive to inflation and monetary policy than to general economic growth, offering valuable considerations for sharia fund managers and policymakers in formulating adaptive investment strategies.Highlight : Inflation and BI Rate positively influence Islamic mutual fund performance. Economic growth shows a negative effect on ROI of Islamic mutual funds. ROI is used as the main metric to assess investment success Keywords: Inflation, BI Rate, Economic Growth, Islamic Mutual Funds, Return on Investment   Ask Chat

Abstract

Purpose — This paper aims to investigate how electronic Word of Mouth (e-WOM), product quality, and brand image influence consumer purchasing decisions in the skincare industry.Method —  This study utilizes a quantitative research method involving 100 consumers of cosrx skincare products as respondents. The researchers adopted non-probability sampling techniques, specifically purposive sampling, to select participants for the study. Primary data was collected through questionnaires distributed on Twitter, where respondents provided direct responses using a Likert scale. To analyze the data and assess the positive and significant effects, the researchers employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) version 4.0.Result — The findings of the study indicate that both e-WOM and product quality have a positive and statistically significant influence on consumer purchasing decisions. Additionally, the research highlights the mediating role played by brand image, which serves as a connecting factor between e-WOM, product quality, and the ultimate purchasing decisions of consumers. This suggests that a favorable brand image enhances the impact of positive e-WOM and product quality on consumers' willingness to make a purchase.Contribution — This research adds to the existing body of knowledge by specifically focusing on the skincare industry and providing empirical evidence for the interplay between e-WOM, product quality, brand image, and their influence on consumer purchasing decisions, while also uncovering the mediating role of brand image.

Abstract

This study aims to further explain how the application of sharia principles in sharia mutual funds and their development. This research uses a qualitative method with content analysis, namely research that is carried out in depth on the object under study and uses secondary data or literature/library studies as a technique in research to obtain research results. This research is also analytical descriptive in nature, namely research that provides a clear and detailed description of the object being studied. The results of the research are based on the mechanism, Islamic mutual funds are managed according to Islamic principles, managed by investment managers, are transparent in terms of investment diversification and are guaranteed and supervised by related institutions (OJK) so that it can be concluded that Islamic mutual funds have implemented Islamic principles in their management mechanisms. However, the development of sharia mutual funds continues to experience ups and downs. From 2018 to 2021, the number of sharia mutual funds has increased. However, the Net Asset Value (NAV) of sharia mutual funds in 2018-2022 has experienced a drastic decline. Sharia mutual funds throughout 2022 will continue to experience a periodic decline both in terms of the number of Islamic mutual funds and in terms of Net Asset Value (NAV). When compared between Islamic mutual funds and conventional mutual funds, Islamic mutual funds are still far behind conventional mutual funds. Conventional mutual funds are far superior to Islamic mutual funds. At the end of 2022, the number of sharia mutual funds is only 274, while the number of conventional mutual funds is 1,846. The Net Asset Value (NAV) of sharia mutual funds is 40,605.11 (in billions of rupiah) while that of conventional mutual funds is 464,257.31 (in billions of rupiah).
