Abstract

Gas turbines are one type of power plant with high flexibility, but their performance is greatly affected by variations in operating load. This study aims to analyse the effect of load variations on the thermal efficiency of Gas Turbine Unit 1.2 at the Muara Karang Gas Power Plant under three load conditions, namely 70 MW, 80 MW, and 90 MW. Actual operational data was used to calculate component work (compressor, combustion chamber, and turbine) and cycle thermal efficiency using thermodynamic calculation methods based on the Brayton Cycle. The calculation results were validated using Cycle Tempo and EES (Engineering Equation Solver) software with an average deviation of <5%. The results show that thermal efficiency increases as the operating load increases. At a load of 70 MW, the thermal efficiency was recorded at 30.30%, increasing to 30.76% at a load of 80 MW, and reaching a peak of 31.72% at a load of 90 MW. These findings prove that gas turbines operate most efficiently at loads close to their maximum capacity, so that operating at optimal loads can reduce specific fuel consumption and improve the energy efficiency of the plant.

Abstract

The relationship between the text and its context in the term Milku Al-Yamīn is often understood differences and shifts in meaning from classical to contemporary times, which are inseparable from social factors and thus influence as a form of ownership of slaves or prisoners of war in pre-Islamic Arab society. However, this interpretation often causes debate when confronted with modern human values. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study and thematic interpretation (maudhū‘i) method, combined with socio-historical analysis and contextual hermeneutics. The results show that the textual understanding of Milku Al-Yamīn in the Qur'an cannot be separated from the social and cultural context of the society when the verses were revealed. The Qur'an does not directly legalize slavery, but takes an evolutionary path by emphasizing liberation, justice, and respect for human dignity. In the modern context, scholars believe that Milku Al-Yamīn needs to be reinterpreted as a symbol of social transformation towards the elimination of oppression and inequality. Thus, through a reading that takes into account both the text and context, Milku Al-Yamīn is understood not as a legitimization of slavery, but as part of the moral and humanitarian process promoted by the Qur'an.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the large allocation of State Capital Participation (PMN) to State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for infrastructure projects, which has not been fully accompanied by increased company profitability. Fluctuating financial performance, high debt burdens, and issues of inefficient state fund management necessitate an empirical study of the effect of PMN and capital structure on profitability, considering company size as a moderating variable. This study aims to analyze the influence of State Capital Participation (PMN) and Capital Structue on the Profitability of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) assigned to infrastructure projects, with Company Size as a moderating variable. The research was conducted on SOEs during the 2019–2023 period using a quantitative approach with panel data regression analysis. The data analysis employed the EViews 10.0 application using multiple regression and moderation tests to examine the role of company size in moderating the relationship between independent variables and company profitability. The results indicate that State Capital Participation positively influences profitability, while Capital Structure (measured by the Debt to Equity Ratio) has a significant negative impact. Additionally, Company Size acts as a moderating variable that strengthens the relationship between PMN and profitability but does not significantly moderate the effect of Capital Structure on profitability. This research is expected to provide insights for the government and SOE management in optimizing capital allocation and managing capital structure to enhance company profitability.

Abstract

Gas turbine performance gradually degrades due to fouling, thermal stress, and component wear, leading to a reduction in thermal efficiency. Major overhaul is essential to restore performance close to design conditions. This study analyzes the impact of major overhaul on the thermal efficiency of Gas Turbine Unit 1.2 at Muara Karang Power Plant, focusing on maximum load operation at 90 MW. Actual operational data were processed using Brayton cycle thermodynamic principles to calculate net work output, fuel energy input, and overall thermal efficiency. Calculations were validated with Cycle Tempo and Engineering Equation Solver (EES), showing a deviation within 5%. Energy distribution and losses were visualized using Sankey diagrams to compare before and after overhaul conditions. Results indicate that thermal efficiency increased from 31.91% to 32.41% after overhaul, corresponding to a reduction in heat loss of approximately 2,950 kJ/s. The improvements were mainly associated with compressor recovery and reduced irreversibility in the combustor. These findings demonstrate that major overhaul is an effective maintenance strategy to improve thermal performance, while Sankey diagrams provide valuable insights into component-level energy losses for operational and maintenance decision-making.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine and analyze the effects of training, work experience, education, and personal characteristics on ship crew recruitment success in Indonesian shipping companies, with competence and work experience as mediating and moderating variables, respectively. Methodology: A quantitative explanatory research design was employed. The population consisted of HR division employees at various levels in shipping companies in Indonesia. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula and selected through proportional random sampling method. Data were collected using structured questionnaires with a five-point Likert scale and were supported by focus group discussions (FGDs). SEM-PLS was used for the data analysis. Results: Training, education, and personal characteristics positively and significantly affected the competence and recruitment success. Competence also positively influenced recruitment success and mediated the effects of training, education, and personal characteristics on recruitment success. Additionally, work experience strengthens the relationship between competence and recruitment success, confirming its moderating role. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of competence in improving recruitment outcomes in maritime HR practices. It also emphasizes that training, education, and personal characteristics enhance competence, which, in turn, affects recruitment success. Work experience plays a key role in strengthening this relationship. Limitations: The study is limited to HR personnel in Indonesian shipping companies, with a small sample size, affecting generalizability. External factors, such as maritime regulations and digital recruitment technologies, were not considered. Contributions: This study contributes to maritime HR management by developing a model of crew recruitment success, incorporating competence and work experience, and providing a comprehensive understanding of recruitment effectiveness in shipping companies.
