Abstract

Despite the growing body of international research highlighting the benefits of nature-based learning for early childhood development, empirical evidence from developing countries, particularly Indonesia, remains limited. Most existing studies focus on cognitive or motor outcomes, leaving a gap in understanding how nature-based learning contributes to environmental awareness as part of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). This study aims to examine the role of nature-based learning in fostering environmental awareness among early childhood learners in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, and documentation of learning activities in early childhood education settings. The findings reveal that nature-based learning significantly enhances children’s engagement, ecological empathy, and responsible environmental behaviors through direct interaction with natural elements. Children demonstrated increased awareness by caring for plants, maintaining cleanliness, and reminding peers to protect the environment. This study contributes theoretically by reinforcing constructivist learning perspectives and empirically by providing context-specific evidence from Indonesia. Practically, the findings offer guidance for educators and policymakers to integrate nature-based learning as an effective strategy to support sustainable education and environmental stewardship from early childhood.

Abstract

Previous research indicates that globalization threatens the preservation of local wisdom in early childhood education, yet studies examining the integration of local wisdom through gender-responsive child-friendly approaches remain limited. This study aims to analyze forms of local wisdom revitalization through child-friendly education at Kindergarten Level. A qualitative method was employed using in-depth interviews and participatory observation of learning activities based on local values. The findings identified three main revitalization strategies: traditional clothing usage during cultural commemorations, market days for introducing traditional foods, and habituation of local language in daily communication. Activities were designed following child-friendly education principles that respect students' potential, interests, and comfort without gender bias. Results demonstrate that this approach effectively fosters love for local culture while strengthening inclusive character formation from early age. The research implications offer an innovative model for integrating local wisdom into early childhood curriculum that is responsive to children's developmental needs and gender equality, contributing to SDG 4 and SDG 5 achievement through sustainable culture-based education.

Abstract

Science learning plays an essential role in helping students develop a comprehensive understanding of natural phenomena and biological processes. However, observations and interviews with teachers and students revealed that the classroom learning process often relied on lecture-based and textbook-centered methods, which tended to make students less enthusiastic and less active during lessons. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a discovery learning- based booklet as a learning medium for the human digestive system material. This research is a development study that employed the Plomp development model. Data collection instruments included teacher and student interview sheets, observation sheets, needs analysis questionnaires, self evaluation forms, validation sheets, and practicality test questionnaires through one-to-one evaluations, small group trials, and field testing. The results of expert validation showed that the developed booklet met the criteria for validity in terms of content, design, and learning feasibility. Furthermore, the practicality test results demonstrated that the booklet was easy to use, engaging, and well received by both teachers and students. In conclusion, the discovery learning-based booklet on the human digestive system is feasible and practical to be used as a learning medium in junior high school science classes.

Abstract

Extraneous cognitive load (ECL) measurements are important to evaluate the quality of digital learning design, but self-report instruments need to be tested for psychometric quality. This study aims to evaluate students' ECL instruments using the Rasch model. Data was collected through a survey of 38 students using an ECL questionnaire containing 17 items with a Likert scale of 1–5, then analyzed with the Rasch Rating Scale Model to assess reliability-separation, fit items and persons, as well as targeting of persons through the Wright map, The results showed that mapping of person-items on a logit scale could be done, but the targeting was less optimal because the average person was far below the average of items. indicates low ECL dominance and limited item coverage at low range. Category diagnostics show a very uneven distribution of responses (categories 4–5 are hardly used), and the probability curve of categories that do not form a clear peak in the upper categories, so the 5 category scale function is not yet effective. It was concluded that the instrument could be used as an initial measurement of ECL, but it needed to be improved on some items and the addition of items to improve precision and interpretability. Keywords: AI, Biology, ECL, Learning Media, Technology.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has created persistent psychological challenges for breastfeeding mothers, where concerns regarding infection and situational uncertainty potentially inhibit the physiological mechanism of lactation through oxytocin suppression. Although the acute phase of the pandemic has passed, mapping the mental condition of breastfeeding mothers at the primary healthcare level (Independent Midwifery Practices) remains rarely explored compared to studies in referral hospitals. This study aimed to provide an overview of maternal anxiety levels regarding breastfeeding during the 2022 pandemic transition period at Independent Midwifery Practice (IMP) W. It employed a quantitative descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design. The research sample consisted of 73 breastfeeding mothers, selected purposively from a population of 194 respondents. The research instrument used an anxiety questionnaire, which was analyzed univariately to generate frequency distributions and characteristic proportions. The results showed that the majority of respondents (60.27%) experienced mild anxiety, while 39.73% experienced no anxiety, with no cases of moderate or severe anxiety found. Specifically, this mild anxiety profile was substantially concentrated in vulnerable groups, namely mothers with a basic educational background (70.45%) and unemployed mothers/homemakers (70.45%). This study concludes that the pandemic residue manifests as mild yet chronic hypervigilance, particularly among groups with limited health literacy. These findings recommend the urgency of integrating routine mental health screening and personalized lactation education into primary midwifery care to prevent exclusive breastfeeding failure due to latent anxiety.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The administration of basic immunization constitutes a fundamental public health intervention in mitigating infant morbidity and mortality rates associated with Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs). Despite its pivotal role, the achievement of Universal Child Immunization (UCI) in Palangka Raya City remains fluctuating and consistently falls below national targets. This study aims to comprehensively describe the determinants influencing the status of basic immunization completeness among infants at the Independent Midwifery Practice (IMP) “W” in Palangka Raya City. A descriptive quantitative research design with an observational approach was employed. The sample consisted of 53 respondents drawn from the population using the Slovin formula, with primary data collection conducted through a calibrated questionnaire exhibiting a high reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s Alpha 0.86). Data were processed using univariate statistical analysis to describe frequency distributions and proportions. The results revealed that 62.26% of infants had received complete immunization, while the remaining 37.74% were incomplete. Significant findings indicated that respondents with tertiary education, income exceeding the Regional Minimum Wage (UMP), and those with “Good” knowledge, attitude, and practice categories achieved an absolute completeness rate of 100.00%. Conversely, adolescent mothers (< 20 years) and those with primary education showed a 100.00% incompleteness rate. Geographical accessibility within a radius of < 1 km recorded higher completeness (73.68%) compared to a radius of > 2 km (55.88%), while the Dayak ethnicity demonstrated the highest completeness rate (83.33%). The study concludes that economic factors, education levels, physical accessibility, and maternal knowledge and attitudes are decisive determinants in achieving immunization status. Policy implications are directed toward strengthening personalized education and active home-visit service strategies to eliminate spatial and sociocultural barriers at the primary healthcare level.
