Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify how teachers implemented text-based material in teaching writing in English class, how did the students enhance their writing competence through text oriented material and how the students’ writing performance through text oriented material. This research used mix method which explored the students’ performance in enhancing their writing skill through text oriented material strategy in second grade of SMAN 2 Pasarwajo. Moreover, class XII IPA 1 and IPA 2 students were selected as the respondent of this study which consisted of 52 students. The data in this study was quantitative and qualitative data; the quantitative data was gained from the students’ responses in the distributed questionnaire and the qualitative data was gained from the result of document analysis and observation. To analyze the quantitative data, the researcher used the computational calculation of the SPSS program (Statistical Program for Social Science) to process statistical data accurately and quickly into various required outputs to draw a conclusion. The result of this study shows that text-oriented material is an effective approach to enhance students' competence in writing analytical expositions. students' effort in improving their writing skills through text-oriented material strategy can be seen in their general writing strategy, pre-writing activities, during writing, after writing activities, and writing through text-oriented material. Overall, using text-oriented material as an approach in teaching analytical exposition is beneficial for students' writing competence. Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of English learning activities at the junior high school level within SMP Negeri 1 Motui, situated in the Motui District, Konawe Utara Regency, during the transition period to the endemic phase of COVID-19. It aims to explore both the activities conducted by English teachers in the classroom and students' perceptions of teaching methodologies. The theoretical framework draws upon Richard and Rodgers' (2014) principles of English language teaching to analyze classroom practices. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study involved 24 students and English teachers from SMPN 1 Motui. Data collection included observation sheets and interview transcripts. Findings reveal that the English learning process in the classroom aligns with 14 out of 15 criteria outlined by the theoretical framework, encompassing physical engagement, instructional coherence, task assignments, scaffolding techniques, thematic integration, and more.

Abstract

The purpose of study is to examine whether significant differences exist in students’ pre-test and post-test reading comprehension as a result of experiencing instruction using scientific approach, to examine whether significant differences in students’ test scores exist between those attending scientific approach and those experiencing conventional instruction, and to elaborate how students perceive the scientific approach, particularly in reading comprehension at the twelfth students grade in SMAN 1 Wawonii. The data were obtained from students’ pre-test and post-test scores, SEEQ questionnaire, and open-ended questions. The finding revealed that significant differences exist in students’ pre-test and post-test reading comprehension as a result of experiencing instruction using scientific approach, p (.000) < 0.05. The finding also indicated that significant differences in students’ test scores exist between those attending scientific approach and those experiencing conventional instruction p (.000) < 0.05. Furthermore, the finding also showed that majority of students agreed that the scientific approach was effective to increase their reading comprehension. Keywords: Scientific approach; Reading comprehension; Teaching approach; Effectiveness

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the ideal type of English teachers in terms of their competencies from the students’ point of view. Respondents of this study were 18 students of 9th grade students of SMPN 19 Kendari. Data collection techniques included open-ended and close-ended questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis. Content analysis revealed a number of competencies associated with an ideal English teacher. As far as the students are concerned, an ideal English teacher should have pedagogical competencies, personal competencies, professional competencies, and social competencies. Each of these competencies along with its characteristics will be presented and discussed in this paper.Keywords: Ideal Teacher, Good Teacher, Teacher competence, Perception.

Abstract

This study examined whether stress level varied with gender and year of enrolment, whether there is a correlation between students’ stress level and their responses towards online learning, and examined students’ responses towards online learning in general. A total of 92 students were recruited for this study. Statistical analyses indicated that there was a significant difference in the stress level of male and female students, in that females had a significantly higher stress level than males (p=0.009). No significant differences were observed in stress level based on the academic years (year of enrolment). However, a significant negative correlation was observed between students’ stress level and their responses towards online learning

Abstract

The utilization of story completion as a novel technique for teaching speaking skills in narrative text has shown promising results in enhancing students' oral proficiency. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of story completion on the speaking ability of both extroverted and introverted students at the Eighth-Grade level of SMPN 2 Kodeoha. Employing a quasi-experimental research design, the study selected students from two classes: Class VIII A, designated as the story completion group, and Class VIII B, serving as the control group receiving conventional instruction. Both groups covered the same topic during the study period. Data collection and analysis were conducted using Microsoft Excel. The findings revealed notable differences in speaking scores between the two groups. Specifically, the mean speaking score of introverted students in the story completion group surpassed that of their counterparts in the conventional group. Moreover, upon closer examination, both extroverted and introverted students in the story completion group demonstrated higher speaking scores compared to those in the conventional group. Furthermore, the results indicated that extroverted students outperformed introverted students in both groups in terms of speaking proficiency. These findings underscore the efficacy of employing story completion as a pedagogical tool for enhancing speaking skills, particularly among introverted students. Overall, the study sheds light on the differential impact of instructional methods on students' speaking abilities, highlighting the potential benefits of tailored approaches for diverse learner profiles.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan Metode Supervisi Klinis Terintegrasi sebagai upaya meningkatkan kompetensi dan efektivitas guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, yang mencakup identifikasi kebutuhan supervisi guru melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi di lapangan. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen, lalu dianalisis secara tematik, serta model disempurnakan melalui refleksi berkelanjutan dan masukan dari pemangku kepentingan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan potensi model dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan dengan fokus pada profesionalisme guru dan pencapaian siswa. Kesimpulannya, Model Supervisi Klinis Terpadu diharapkan dapat memperkuat praktik pengajaran guru dan pemahaman mereka terhadap kebutuhan siswa, serta menjadi landasan yang kuat untuk meningkatkan mutu pendidikan secara berkelanjutan. Rekomendasi untuk penelitian mendatang mencakup pengujian efektivitas model secara lebih luas dan dalam berbagai konteks pendidikan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi penerapan Sistem Online Single Submission (OSS) di Dinas Penanaman Modal dan Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (DPMPTSP) Kota Bima, serta dampaknya terhadap proses perizinan usaha. Tujuan khusus dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kecepatan, akurasi, transparansi, dan keterjangkauan layanan perizinan setelah implementasi OSS. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tantangan yang dihadapi serta memberikan rekomendasi untuk peningkatan layanan perizinan melalui OSS. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi literatur. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara triangulasi untuk memastikan validitas dan kedalaman informasi. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan teknik analisis data interaktif untuk memahami dinamika implementasi OSS dan dampaknya terhadap proses perizinan di Kota Bima. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan OSS di DPMPTSP Kota Bima telah memberikan dampak positif yang signifikan. Proses perizinan yang sebelumnya memerlukan waktu yang lama dengan banyak tahapan administrasi manual kini dapat diselesaikan secara online, mengurangi waktu pelayanan izin berusaha dari satu bulan menjadi paling lama satu minggu. Penggunaan OSS juga meningkatkan akurasi dan transparansi proses perizinan, dengan fitur pelacakan real-time yang memungkinkan pemohon memantau status permohonan mereka secara langsung. Selain itu, integrasi antarinstansi terkait yang difasilitasi oleh OSS meningkatkan koordinasi dan efisiensi dalam proses perizinan. Namun, penelitian ini juga mengidentifikasi beberapa tantangan, seperti keterbatasan jumlah petugas, kurangnya anggaran, kesenjangan digital, resistensi terhadap perubahan, dan gangguan teknis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disarankan adanya program sosialisasi intensif, peningkatan jumlah dan kompetensi petugas, serta investasi dalam infrastruktur IT untuk mengoptimalkan layanan OSS. Penelitian lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk mengembangkan fitur tambahan dan meningkatkan otomatisasi sistem guna mendukung pertumbuhan ekonomi lokal dan menciptakan lingkungan usaha yang kondusif di Kota Bima.

Abstract

This study examines the intricate challenges of maintaining bureaucratic impartiality in the 2024 Legislative and Presidential Elections in Bima Regency, particularly emphasizing the pervasive influence of political dynasties. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach and an in-depth literature review to elucidate the intricacies of local political dynamics. It illuminates how political pressure, interest-based interventions, and entrenched polarization erode bureaucratic integrity. The findings illustrate the considerable influence wielded by political dynasties in Bima Regency, which extends beyond the political sphere to encompass symbolic, cultural, and economic domains. This formidable sway presents a formidable challenge to the neutrality of bureaucratic institutions during the electoral process. Furthermore, this research highlights the crucial function of independent media in advancing inclusive democracy and upholding bureaucratic impartiality. By offering a nuanced analysis, the research uncovers the challenges and provides strategic recommendations to improve bureaucratic independence. Some key suggestions include improving ethics education and training for civil servants, strengthening oversight mechanisms, enforcing strict sanctions against violations, and encouraging greater public engagement and awareness. Ultimately, this study contributes valuable insights to ongoing efforts to improve the quality of democracy in Bima District and across Indonesia, paving the way for more resilient and transparent democratic processes in the future.

Abstract

Abstrak: Dibutuhkan kesadaran dan kerjasama semua pihak dalam pengelolaan sampah, terutama food waste dari lingkungan rumah tangga. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi tentang peningkatan pendapatan masyarakat melalui recycle food waste menjadi produk olahan bernilai komersial di Desa Menggala Kecamatan Pemenang-Lombok Utara. Sasaran kegiatan adalah 25 orang ibu rumah tangga di Kecamatan Pemenang. Edukasi dilakukan melalui penyampaian materi, diskusi, dan praktik. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya kesadaran masyarakat untuk mengurangi jumlah sampah dari rumah tangga, menjaga kebersihan lingkungan, memperoleh pengetahuan tentang pengelolaan sampah berbasis 4R, menghasilkan produk makanan olahan berbahan dasar food waste, menjadikan hasil produksi sebagai usaha rumahan untuk meningkatkan pendapatan, serta ide meminimalisir pengeluaran dan menerapkan pola frugal living. Agar lebih maksimal, disarankan agar masyarakat terus mengembangkan kreativitas dan inovasi dalam mengolah makanan berbahan dasar food waste. Stakeholder lain dapat mengadakan edukasi serupa di tempat dan sasaran berbeda, sehingga peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat tentang pengelolaan sampah lebih luas dan massif.Abstract: It requires awareness and cooperation of all parties in waste management, especially food waste from the household environment. The service aims to provide education about increasing people's income through recycling food waste into processed products with commercial value in Menggala Village, Pemenang District, North Lombok. The target of the activity is 25 housewife, Pemenang District. Education is carried out through the delivery of material, discussion and practice. The results of the activity show that there is public awareness to reduce the amount of waste from households, maintain environmental cleanliness, gain knowledge about 4R-based waste management, produce processed food products made from food waste, turn production into a home business to increase income, as well as ideas for minimizing expenses and implementing a frugal living pattern. To get maximum results, it is recommended that people continue to develop creativity and innovation in processing food made from food waste. Other stakeholders can hold similar education in different places and targets, so that the increase in community knowledge and skills regarding waste management is broader and more massive.
