Abstract

Background: This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to enhance the reasoning and proof competencies of Mathematics teachers in Prabumulih City through training in the use of Geometer's Sketchpad software. An initial survey identified that many teachers had a negative perception of mathematical proof, felt difficulty in constructing proofs, and lacked the use of technology in teaching. Methods: The training was conducted in a hybrid format, combining face-to-face and online methods, with an emphasis on interactive approaches. Result: The results showed a significant increase in teachers' understanding of mathematical concepts and their ability to construct proofs. Approximately 90% of teachers stated that evidence-based learning improves the quality of education. Although progress was made, additional training is still needed for some teachers who struggled with using Geometer's Sketchpad. These findings highlight the importance of ongoing support and further training to sustain teachers' competency development, as well as encourage the application of more innovative teaching methods. Conclusion: Thus, this activity is expected to improve the quality of mathematics education in schools and prepare students to face academic challenges in the future.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan learning trajectory yang menggunakan puzzle bangun datar sederhana pada pembelajaran luas bangun datar gabungan dengan pendekatan PMRI kelas VI Sekolah Dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode design research tipe validation study yang bertujuan untuk membuktikan teori-teori pembelajaran. Design research sendiri terdiri dari tiga tahapan yang merupakan proses siklik yang berulang dari eksperimen pemikiran (thought experiment) menuju eksperimen pemikiran (instruction experiment) (Gravemeijer, 1994). Setelah melakukan tiga tahapan tersebut, penelitian ini akan menghasilkan lintasan belajar yang terdiri dari dua aktivitas pembelajaran pada materi luas bangun datar gabungan dengan menggunakan puzzle berbentuk bangun datar sederhana. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, bahwa lintasan belajar tersebut dapat meningkatkan pemahaman siswa terhadap materi luas bangun datar gabungan. Abstract

This research aimed to generate a learning trajectory in an introduction to early mathematics, precisely to measure learning using educational games and Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and to describe young children’s curiosity in learning early mathematics. Children need to have an understanding to take a measurement and use a learning trajectory to learn how to differentiate measurable and countable quantities and to tell the longer and the greater in number. The design of this research involves three phases, namely, preliminary design, experimentation, and retrospective analysis. A Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) using educational games was developed by collecting data from documentation, observations, and interviews. The results obtained from the implementation in the classroom showed that the educational games were able to help young children get to know early mathematics, particularly on measurements of lengths and volumes. There is an association with several factors in the selection of realistic problems. Communications during the game could stimulate an introduction to measurement. The use of objects in students’ vicinity also contributed to their experiments relating to measurement. The results of this research inform policymaking for teachers in designing learning in the classroom in introducing early mathematics based on educational games and Realistic Mathematics Education (RME).

Abstract

Mathematics learning using high-order thinking skills is crucial for students. High-order thinking skills can be developed through learning materials with contexts relevant to the student's environment. This research aims to: produce maritime context mathematics teaching materials for higher-order thinking in Junior High Schools that are valid, practical, and have a potential effect on analytical and evaluation skills. The subjects of this study were 7th-grade students at SMP Tamansiswa Palembang, SMP Tamansiswa Mariana, and SMP Tamansiswa Sungai Buah. Data collection techniques include walkthroughs, interviews, observations, documentation, and tests. Data analysis is conducted qualitatively through descriptive methods. The research development of maritime context mathematics teaching materials for higher-order thinking at Junior High Schools has been validated based on content, construct, and language by expert reviews. During one-to-one interactions, students demonstrated their comprehension of the teaching materials and their ability to analyze and evaluate the student worksheets (SW) and questions. Practicality was observed during small group interactions, as students encountered no difficulties in solving problems on the SW and questions using analytical and evaluative skills. Furthermore, the field test demonstrated that the maritime context mathematics teaching materials have the potential to enhance students' analytical and evaluative abilities. In conclusion, this research has produced valid, practical, and potentially effective maritime context mathematics teaching materials for higher-order thinking at Junior High Schools, which can enhance students' analytical and evaluative abilities.

Abstract

The importance of differentiated learning in the classroom is to meet students' diverse learning needs, increase engagement, and maximize individual potential so that each student can achieve optimal learning outcomes. This research was carried out as a starting point in the use of differentiated learning modules on problem-based comparison materials so that students' mathematical problem-solving skills are good, but there are still many learnings that do not integrate student needs, and students still experience difficulties in understanding comparative materials. The type of research used is development studies-type design research with the aim of producing a problem-based differentiated learning module on comparative materials that is valid, practical, and has a potential effect of using differentiated learning modules of comparative materials on students' mathematical problem-solving skills. The research subjects were 36 students of class VII.8 of junior high school 17 Palembang. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The results showed that the problem-based differentiated learning module on comparison material was quite valid with an average percentage of 82.9% and very practical with an average percentage of 83.3%, and students had good mathematical problem-solving skills with an average percentage of 83.069% after the implementation of learning. The resulting teaching module contains lesson plans, student worksheets, teaching materials, assessments, and assessment rubrics.

Abstract

This study was intended to produce a learner worksheet in trigonometry material based on generative learning with valid and practical, and to determine the potential effects on students conceptual understanding in trigonometry material. It is Research and Development with Borg and Gall model. The subjects of this research were students of class XI MIPA 4 SMAN 11 Palembang as many as 34 students. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observations, and test. The result of data analysis could be concluded that this research procuded worksheet in trigonometry material based on generative learning valid and practical trigonometry material, and LKPD that had been developed had a potential effect on students conceptual understanding in trigonometri material. Therefore worksheet that had been developed can be used by the students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find student’s difficulties in resolving PISA 2012 problems level 4, 5, and 6. The method that used in this research is qualitative study. The type of this research is descriptive study that attempts to identify and describe the difficulties that experienced by student in resolving PISA 2012 problems level 4, 5, and 6. Five sixth grade students of SMP N 1 Indralaya become the research subject in this research. The results of this research shows that the students have difficulty in understanding the problems, modifying real problems into mathematics structure, and solving mathematics problem in resolving PISA 2012 problems level 4, 5, and 6. In resolving level 4 problem, students also have difficulty in interpreting mathematical solution in terms of real situation. However, there is a student who capable to resolve the problems level 4, 5, and 6 correctly.

Abstract

National Council of Teacher of Mathematics (NCTM) stated five basic mathematics skills: problem solving, proof and reasoning, communication, connections, and representation. In an effort to explore and develop students' mathematical communication ability, mathematical modelling approach was used in mathematics learning of VIII-grade SMP Negeri 13 (state Junior High School) Palembang. This research is a development research aims to develop student worksheet based on mathematical modelling approach. Document analysis shows that the worksheet is valid and practical. Test data shows potential effect with some categories of students’ mathematical connections ability: 66.67% “good”, 21.21% categorized as "enough", 12.12% were categorized “low”. Data test shows the most frequent indicator is the first indicator: recognize and use the relationships between ideas in mathematics. While the indicator: to recognize and apply mathematics in other topics or daily life is less frequent.

Abstract

Penelitian Pengembangan Perangkat Pembelajaran Berbasis Kontekstual Pokok Bahasan Turunan di Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 3 Palembang bertujuan untuk (1) menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran berbasis kontekstual pokok bahasan turunan yang valid dan praktis; (2) mengetahui efektifitas pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pendekatan berbasis kontekstual pokok bahasan turunan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan (development research) yang terdiri dari 3 tahap yaitu (1) self evaluation, meliputi tahap analisis dan desain perangkat pembelajaran; (2) prototyping, meliputi tahap evaluasi dan revisi; dan (3) field test. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara tes, observasi dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil tes diperoleh nilai rata-rata siswa mencapai 81,11 atau sudah melampaui standar ketuntasan minimum 66,16. Hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa tujuh prinsip pembelajaran kontekstual telah mencapai 84,95 % atau termasuk kriteria baik. Dari data dokumentasi disimpulkan bahwa untuk penggunaan buku siswa dan Lembar Kerja Siswa (LKS) telah mencapai kriteria kepraktisan. Kemudian untuk Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) yang telah didesain, divalidasi oleh beberapa pakar dan praktisi matematika dan pendidikan matematika kemudian direvisi berdasarkan saran dari para pakar tersebut. RPP yang telah divalidasi dan direvisi tersebut dianggap telah memenuhi kriteria kevalidan dan kepraktisan sehingga dapat digunakan pada pelaksanaan pembelajaran berbasis kontekstual untuk pokok bahasan turunan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) perangkat pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dalam penelitian ini dikategorikan valid dan praktis; (2) dari hasil analisis data tes hasil belajar pokok bahasan turunan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kontekstual diketahui bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa telah mencapai 81,11 dengan kata lain sudah melampaui Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) yaitu 66,16. Hal ini berarti bahwa pembelajaran kontekstual yang dilakukan sudah termasuk kategori efektif. DOI: 10.22342/jpm.3.1.323
