Abstract

Insects are among the most significant numbers of living things in the world that have many benefits. However, there are still many insects that have not been identified yet, for example, insects in mangrove ecosystems. Each age of the stand has differences in vegetation structure, so insect diversity research on each age difference of R. mucronata is essential. Sampling was collected by purposive sampling by taking three guludan samples measuring 5 m ´ 10 m. In each sample, a census was carried out to measure the diameter and height of R. mucronata at the age of 17, 13, 9, and 4 years for further vegetation analysis. The capture of insects is carried out using a yellow-pan trap and then identified to the level of morphospecies. The results showed a relationship between the age of different stands. At a young age had a lot of diversity and the highest value of insect abundance. The age of R. mucronata 13 years had the highest quantity dominated by the order Diptera Keywords: density, ecosystem, morphospecies, temperature, yellow-pan trap

SAMBAS, E. N., KUSMANA, C., PRASETYO, L. B. & PARTOMIHARDJO, T. 2018. Vegetation analysis and population structure of plants at Mount Endut forested area, Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, Banten, Java,Indonesia. Reinwardtia 17 (1): 39–53. — Study of vegetation structure and species composition at Mount Endut was carried out by using transect and plot methods. Data of trees, saplings and seedlings were enumerated from four transects measuring 10 m × 2,000 m in four directions of slopes i.e. North, South, East and West. In total there were 180 species of trees and saplings belonging to 105 genera and 51 families. Tree density and basal area indicate the variation and the differences in each of the sampling locations. Density of saplings and abundance of seedlings tend to be low in locations with high density and basal areas at tree level. Tree species having higher Importance Value were Castanopsis acuminatissima, Schima wallichii, C. argentea, Quercus gemelliflora, and Altingia excelsa. Castanopsis acuminatissima, Garcinia rostrata, S. wallichii, Symplocos cochinchinensis, and Prunus arborea were saplings which had highest density, while Ophiorrhiza marginata, Cyathea contaminans, Pinanga coronata,C. acuminatissima, and G. rostrata were the most abundant listed seedlings at the study site. At least 27 tree species (21.91%) were recorded as relatively rare (presence represented by only 1–2 individuals), thus requiring special attention in the management of the area.

Abstract

Kota Depok, located in the western part of West Java Province, has experienced rapid growth over the past few decades. This growth occurred alongside intense urbanization, industrial development, and population increase. Apart from the positive impact of economic growth and infrastructure development, this rapid development causes environmental damage and loss of green open land. This can impact air, water, and soil quality and threaten environmental sustainability. This paper systematically tries to inventory the factors involved in urban green spaces' sustainability with a structural approach using Cross-Impact Matric Multiplication Applied to Classification (MICMAC) software. Of the 12 factors analyzed, five have a strong level of influence and low dependence, and 3 have a strong influence but have high reliance. These factors are 1) LU policy, 2) law enforcement, 3) environmental education, 4) stakeholder integrity, and 5) community involvement and participation, while 1) biodiversity conservation, 2) land value, and 3 ) environmental maintenance and protection is a factor that has a strong influence but is also highly dependent. Stakeholders can use the results of identifying these key factors as considerations for making decisions.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems provide globally important climate regulation services through long-term carbon sequestration, yet restoration programs frequently rely on single management interventions that may underestimate their mitigation potential. This study evaluated the climate mitigation performance of integrated blue carbon interventions across the northern coast of Java, Indonesia, by comparing conservation of intact wetlands with avoided deforestation, restoration of wetland ecosystems with active planting, and restoration with assisted natural regeneration. A spatially explicit Tier 3 carbon accounting framework was developed by integrating multi-temporal Landsat observations (1972-2025), Random Forest land-cover classification, mangrove carbon-stock data, field-derived growth measurements, and scenario-based greenhouse gas accounting over a 30-year project horizon. The results indicate an average potential emission reduction of 8.67 Mt CO2e/year across the study area. Among the evaluated interventions, coastal erosion control through restoration with assisted natural regeneration achieved the highest mitigation performance (120 tCO2e/ha/year), nearly four times that of planting-based rehabilitation (32 tCO2e/ha/year). Over a 30-year simulation period, these scenarios are projected to generate 210 Mt CO2e of tradable carbon units, equivalent to an average of 7 Mt CO2e/year. At a carbon price of USD 5/t CO2e, this volume could have an economic value exceeding USD 35 million per year. These findings demonstrate that integrated mangrove protection and restoration strategies can deliver substantial climate mitigation outcomes while creating significant economic incentives through carbon finance mechanisms. Abstract

Production  structure  of  main  commercial  tree  species  was  studied  in  a  mangrove  forest  in  East Sumatera, Indonesia. This research was carried out in January 1991 using the estimation of standing biomass with stratified clipping method in order to know the production structure of the main commercial tree species in this mangrove forest, i.e. Rhizophora apiculata, Bruguieraparviflora and B. sexangula. The results obtained show that R. apiculata tended to have a sparser foliage of thicker leaves along the stem than B. parviflora or B. sexangula; therefore, R. apiculata is regarded as a shade-intolerant tree species. In contrast, either B. parviflora or B. sexangula tended to have a larger proportion of leaves and branches along the stem; consequently, those species are recognized as shade-tolerant tree species.
