Abstract

One  transect of 10 m x 900 m was  constructed perpendicular  to  the sea edge  to know  the pattern  ofmangrove forest communities from the sea edge through the inland area. Then, one sample plot of 50 m x 50 mwas established at each forest community to explore its vegetation structure and soil characteristics. The results show that in Talidendang Besar area, there are three mangrove forest communities stretchingfrom the sea edge to the inland, namely Bruguiera parviflora, B. sexangula and B. sexangula-Nypa fruticans.The soil factors such as pH.EC (electrical conductivity), % K, % Na, C-organic, N-total, NH4 (ammonia), andCEC  (cation exchange  capacity) were  regarded  important  in  influencing  the  pattern of  the mangrove  forestcommunities.

Abstract

In primary and logged-over natural foresttrees conditions tree structure, mortality and ingrowth rates , the such as will vary according to the species characteristic. Quantitative management variables become very important to support yield regulation tools for achieving sustainable forest management. The objective was to determine studymortality and ingrowth rates to formulate biometric characteristic variability Dipterocarps forest in logged-over of forests based on time series The was Labanan, East Kalimantan Province. For data analysis purpose, trees were divided into Dipterocarps and non-Dipterocarps. two major groups, i.e. Range of mortality rates for all species in logged-over forest were 2.5-29.3% per ha per 2 years which was close very to primary forest at year-5 after logging. While range of ingrowth rate for all species in logged-over forest were 1.3-21.3% per ha per 2 years which were higher than those for the primary forest within 17 years. The mortality and ingrowth rates fluctuation of Dipterocarps species group were different from those of non-Dipterocarps.

Abstract

Waterlogged condition is one of the environmental stresses unfavorable for plants and mycorrhizal fungi. Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) species that are tolerant tend to be more adaptive to waterlogged conditions. Besides increasing plant tolerance, the documented effects of AM fungi (AMF) inoculation on wetland plant performance remain inconsistent, and AMF application may also cause plant growth depression under waterlogging. This study aimed to examine the morpho-anatomical adaptation, survival, growth, biomass, and nutrient uptake of Nauclea orientalis (L.) seedlings from different habitats inoculated with Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi under waterlogged conditions for 90 days. Experimental procedures included seed germination, preparation of AMF inoculum, inoculation, and waterlogging treatment. The results showed that N. orientalis seedlings formed lenticels (100%), adventitious roots (41%), and aerenchyma under waterlogged conditions. Seedlings originating from dryland habitats, both mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal, had lower height growth rate compared to those from other habitat types. Similar patterns were observed in relative growth rate for shoot (RGRs), root (RGRr), total (RGRt), and root-to-shoot ratio. Treatments of swamp habitat seedlings without waterlogging and with waterlogging, as well as savannah seedlings under waterlogged conditions, showed higher total plant dry weight and RGRt than other treatments. In general, total nitrogen concentration in roots and shoots was highest in the interaction between swamp habitat seedlings and non-mycorrhizal treatment under waterlogging. However, seedlings from dryland habitats required AMF under waterlogging to improve biomass and nitrogen accumulation in roots. Independently, waterlogging increased average height gain (18%), stem diameter (46%), leaf area (40%), leaf length (17%), and leaf width (21%). Nonetheless, waterlogged treatment decreased the number of leaves (9%) and AMF colonization (71%). The results indicate that seedlings from temporary swamp habitats demonstrated better growth performance and higher biomass under waterlogged conditions, regardless of AMF inoculation.

Abstract

Carbon conservation programs in mangrove ecosystems focus on the growth of mangrove vegetation that is measured based on the amount of carbon present at different tree stages, particularly the seedlings, saplings, and mature mangrove trees. This study was aimed to determine carbon percentage of mangrove ecosystems using the SNI 06 — 3730 — 1995 and TAPPI T 211 om 85 methods, and to analyse the mangrove clustering based on carbon percentage. The results showed that (1) Avicennia spp., Sonneratia spp., Bruguiera spp., Rhizophora spp., Aegiceras spp., Lumnitzera spp., Ceriops spp., Excoecaria agallocha and Xylocarpus granatum had carbon percentages between 45.01% and 55.54%; (2) the carbon percentage of mangroves at different growth stages were as follows; seedlings at 16.3-21.2%, saplings at 19.0-28.1%, trees with diameter at breast height (DBH) of 10-20 cm at 38.1-46.30%, trees with DBH of 20-30 cm at 40.2-51.1% and trees with DBH of 30-40 cm at 49.1-55.20%. The carbon conservation is positively correlated with the carbon sequestration ability and growth of the mangroves.

Abstract

The massive increase in efforts to develop ecotourism in Indonesia has made the concept of ecoregional identity necessary for strengthening the comparative advantage of inter-regional ecotourism development. This research was conducted to analyze, map, and interpret stakeholder orientation toward ecoregional identity for ecotourism development in the Gayo Highlands, Aceh Province, especially Aceh Tengah District. The study was conducted by analyzing the perceptions, motivations, and preferences of stakeholder groups; by adopting the One Score One Criteria Scoring System for 7 aspects: ecological, socio-cultural, socio-economic, social politics, development, regional, and ecotourism. The analysis showed that stakeholder orientations toward ecoregional identity for ecotourism development remained relatively low: of the 327 ecoregional identity types mapped, only 41% were recognized by stakeholders. The ecoregional identities that are trending and have significant economic value at this time are Gayo Coffee, Lut Tawar Lake, and Depik Fish, which have the highest stakeholder orientation in Aceh Tengah District. This fact not only weakens the functions of other ecoregional identities, which are also important for ecotourism development, but also causes the loss and even extinction of these identities.

Abstract

Kajian dilakukan bulan Oktober 2023 pada 5 stasiun pengamatan yang bertujuan untuk menilai kondisi ekologi perairan Selat Cunda dalam upaya pengembangan budidaya tiram. Parameter diukur secara in situ dan ex situ, selanjutnya dibandingkan dengan baku mutu lingkungan serta dianalisis menggunakan Principal Component Analysis. Oksigen terlarut tertinggi ditemukan pada Stasiun 3 (7.66 ± 0.08 mg/L), pH pada Stasiun 2 (7.95 ± 0.02), salinitas pada Stasiun 1 (27.00 ± 1.00‰), kecerahan pada Stasiun 5 (79.00 ± 4.00 cm), kedalaman dan suhu pada Stasiun 2 (62.33 ± 8.33 cm dan 30.80 ± 0.62⁰C), kekeruhan dan kelimpahan Escherichia coli pada Stasiun 1 (2262.42 ± 1613.32 NTU dan 1020.00 ± 113.00 MPN/100 ml), logam berat Cd air pada Stasiun 3 dan 4 (masing-masing 0.01 ± 0.00 mg/L), logam berat Pb air pada Stasiun 3 (0.07 ± 0.01 mg/L), kecepatan arus pada Stasiun 2 (0.20 ± 0.01 m/s), tekstur pasir pada Stasiun 5 (88.00 ± 1.73%), tekstur debu pada Stasiun 4 (46.00 ± 22.52%), tekstur liat dan C-organik pada Stasiun 1 (9.67 ± 1.15% dan 0.85 ± 0.68%), logam berat Cd serta Pb pada Stasiun 3 (0.03 ± 0.01 mg/L dan 7.60 ± 0.58 mg/L) dan N-total pada Stasiun 4 (0.12 ± 0.33%). Hasil analisis PCA memperlihatkan bahwa parameter suhu, tekstur debu, kecepatan arus, Cd air, N-total dan tekstur pasir merupakan pembeda utama variasi di PC pertama; sementara parameter salinitas, kelimpahan E. coli, kekeruhan, tekstur liat dan kedalaman merupakan pembeda utama variasi di PC kedua. Untuk mewujudkan kesuksesan budidaya tiram di Selat Cunda Kota Lhokseumawe harus ditingkatkan nilai kecerahan dan kedalaman perairan serta menurunkan kekeruhan serta logam berat Pb.

This study discusses the sustainability of small scale private forest in Bogor, Indonesia. It aims to determine the dimensions of sustainable private-forest and analyzing the sustainability index of privately managed forest. This study uses multidimensional scaling (MDS) o analyze the dimensions of sustainability, ranked from 0 (the lowest) to 10 (the highest), along with the support of Rap-Pforest, in order to assess the level of similarity and dissimilarity for each dimension. Using this scale from the sustainability index, this study estimates the level of sustainability of each dimension. After measuring each attribute’s level of ordination RMS change on the X axis, we estimate the error’s effect using Monte Carlo analysis. This study shows that the ecology as well as legal and institutional dimensions are moderately sustainable, with a sustainability index of 53.66% and 52.48%. However, the dimensions of economy, socio-culture, as well as accessibility and technology are less sustainable, with an index measurement of 41.62%, 47.02% and 47.56%, respectively. Based on those five sustainability dimensions, this study concludes that in average the level of sustainability of private-forest management in the Bogor is not sustainable (48.47%). We recommend that to improve the sustainability of small scale private forest management in Bogor, multiple stakeholders should be involved to development the most appropriate policy options.

Hoya multiflora Blume (Asclepiadaceae) is an Asiatic tropical epiphytic shrub which has been utilized as ornamental plant and reported to possess medicinal properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the morphological variation of Hoya multiflora populations at the different habitat types of Bodogol Research Station of Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park in Indonesia. We collected 48 samples from three sub populations with six different habitat types. Morphological variation was found in stem, leave, and inflorescence. According to thediscriminant and cluster analysis, the 48 samples were separated into three groups at 12% dissimilarity. The groups were determined by canopy cover degree.Key words: morphological diversity, Hoya multiflora, Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park

Abstract

Ecological studies on mangrove forest in East Coast of North Sumatra have been carried out with field work in transect method and laboratory analyses. This study would be covered on floristic composition, abrasion, green belt, soil properties, and water quality of mangroves. Land system map and landsat TM imagery (year 1996 coverage) as main material in this study were used and overlay to determine training area. Based on vegetation inventory found that 20 mangrove species and by vegetation analyses, we known that Avicennia marina was as dominant tree species of seedling and sapling stage. Tree stage was not found in the area, yet. Environment properties of the mangrove area were suitable for mangrove growth and rehabilitation with the exception of pyrite content in the mangrove soil. Average of mangrove green belt was 25 m with range from 10 to 80 m in KJP (Kajapah) land system and 30 m with range 10 to 50 m in PTG (Putting) land system. Abrasion rate in the area was very high, i.e. 6 m per year in KJP land system, and 10 m per year in PTG land system.© 2008 Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UNS SurakartaKey words: mangrove, abrasion, green belt, soil properties, water quality, North Sumatra

Abstract

The objective of the research was to know species composition and structure of ex-burned heath forest. Field research was carried out from 23 June to 5 July and 10 to 25 September 2004 on the foot-slope of Semujan Hill, Danau Sentarum National Park, West Kalimantan. Ten-sample units (SU) with each size 10 x 10 m are placed based on random sampling method. On each SU, trees with diameter  2 cm cm were identified and the diameter (DBH) and height are recorded. Fourteen tree species were found within a 0.1 ha SU, consisting of 12 genus and 8 families. Tree density is exponentially decreased from trees with small diameter to trees with big diameter.Key words: species composition, forest structure, ex-burned heath forest, Danau Sentarum National Park, West Kalimantan.
