Abstract

Company X is a paving block molding machine fabrication company in Surabaya. However, the machine still has some shortcomings because it is still conventional or manually operated. Some of these shortcomings, such as being still prone to human error and being less consistent when operating, can affect the results of the amount of production. From this phenomenon, automation is very important in the industrial world. Therefore, by referring to previous phenomenon, through this research, an automatic control system is made on paving block molding machine using PLC. The results showed that PLC succeeded in developing a system that works automatically on the machine. Then, the ladder diagram used several instructions, including interlock, timer, counter, and set reset according to how the machine works. Then, the PLC-based automatic control system has a shorter cycle time than the original manual machine. Cycle time has decreased by 15.4%. From this decrease in cycle time, if simulated related to production capacity, an automatic control system can increase production per hour by 300 pcs more than the manually operated machine.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical practice through a transformative fiqh and Islamic ethics approach. Based on the rapid development of health technology, the role of AI in diagnosis, treatment, and medical decision-making continues to expand, raising issues related to patient privacy, professional responsibility, and the risk of algorithmic discrimination. Therefore, an ethical framework rooted in the fundamental values of Islamic law (maqashid syari’ah) within the context of transformative fiqh becomes necessary. This study uses a qualitative method with a normative-philosophical approach, supported by selected literature sources tested for accuracy and validity, and analyzed through concept identification, issue mapping, comparison with maqashid, and legal synthesis. The study finds that the use of AI is ethically acceptable when placed within the framework of mashlahah, accompanied by professional oversight, and regulated through justice-based policies. Transformative fiqh also highlights the need to balance technological benefits with potential risks, including protecting patient rights, ensuring fairness in service, and preserving spiritual values in treatment. Ultimately, AI in medical practice is viewed not only as a technological tool but also as a means to actualize the core values of Islamic law in contemporary contexts. This study contributes by offering a relevant Islamic ethical framework for the development of health technology in the digital era through a transformative fiqh approach.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Critical Pedagogy in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) based on the perspectives of senior high school teachers in Palu, Indonesia, within the framework of the Merdeka Belajar curriculum. Using a qualitative research design, this study explores how teachers understand and apply key principles of Critical Pedagogy, such as dialogue, problem-posing, reflection and action (praxis), and the development of students’ critical awareness of social issues. Data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with three purposively selected EFL teachers. The findings reveal that the teachers have attempted to implement student-centered learning through classroom discussions, problem-solving tasks, and project-based learning connected to local contexts, including disaster awareness and community issues. However, several challenges were identified, including curriculum constraints, limited teaching resources, insufficient professional development opportunities, and students’ limited readiness for critical engagement. This study concludes that the effective integration of Critical Pedagogy in EFL classrooms in Eastern Indonesia requires context-sensitive teacher training, greater curricular flexibility, and stronger policy support to promote critical and socially responsive English language teaching.

Abstract

Descriptive speaking skills remain among the most challenging competencies for junior high school students, particularly in contexts where English is taught as a foreign language. Many students struggle with pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehensibility, resulting in limited confidence and difficulty expressing descriptive information. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Describing Picture Strategy in developing the descriptive speaking skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Palu. Using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group, the study involved 57 students selected through simple random sampling. The experimental group received treatment using the Describing Picture Strategy, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected using a speaking performance test and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS 25. The results show a significant improvement in the experimental group’s mean score from 59.69 to 71.81, compared to the control group’s increase from 58.24 to 61.08. An Independent Samples T-Test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the groups. These findings demonstrate that the Describing Picture Strategy effectively enhances students' pronunciation, fluency, and comprehensibility by providing visual stimuli that trigger ideas and reduce speaking anxiety. The study concludes that visual-based, student-centered techniques are beneficial for improving descriptive speaking performance in EFL contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of ChatGPT-based interactive exercises to improve eighth-grade students’ vocabulary mastery at SMP Astra Makmur Jaya. The research employed a quantitative, quasi-experimental design with an experimental and a control group. Students’ vocabulary mastery was measured through pre-test and post-test scores, focusing on two aspects: meaning and use. The experimental group received six sessions of ChatGPT-based, collaborative, small-group interactive exercises, while the control group was instructed through traditional textbook-based methods. The results showed that ChatGPT-based interactive exercises significantly improved students’ vocabulary mastery. The experimental group's post-test score improved to 82.32, while the control group's average score was 70.53. Further statistical analysis revealed that the t-counted value (3.92) was higher than the t-table value (2.008), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. These findings indicate that ChatGPT-based interactive exercises effectively improve students’ vocabulary mastery by providing contextual practice, immediate feedback, and increased student engagement. Therefore, the findings indicate that ChatGPT can serve as an effective learning tool to improve students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental component of English language learning. Nevertheless, many junior high school students encounter difficulties due to monotonous instructional methods. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Scramble Words technique on vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students. Using a quantitative quasi-experimental design, the study involved 61 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 7 Palu, who were divided into an experimental and a control group. Data were collected through a vocabulary pretest and posttest focusing on nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. The experimental group was instructed using the Scramble Words technique, whereas the control group received conventional teaching. Based on the analysis, the experimental group showed superior gains in vocabulary mastery compared to the control group. This difference was statistically significant, as evidenced by the t-test, which showed that the calculated t-value exceeded the t-table value at the 0.05 level. These findings suggest that the scramble words technique is an effective and engaging approach for enhancing vocabulary mastery among junior high school students.

Abstract

Reading comprehension constitutes a fundamental component of English language learning, as it enables students to construct meaning and understand written texts effectively. Nevertheless, many junior high school students continue to have difficulty comprehending English reading materials, especially when dealing with long descriptive texts and interpreting words with multiple meanings in different contexts. These difficulties often make students feel lazy and less motivated to read. Therefore, the Jigsaw technique was applied to encourage active learning, collaboration, and communication among students by dividing the learning materials into smaller sections, with each student responsible for studying and explaining their section to their peers. This study aimed to investigate whether the Jigsaw technique is effective in improving the reading comprehension of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Palu, particularly in learning descriptive texts. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with two classes: VII A as the experimental group and VII C as the control group, totaling 60 students. A reading comprehension test consisting of 15 multiple-choice items and 5 essay questions was used as the research instrument. The data were analyzed using statistical procedures to determine whether the difference between the two groups was significant. The findings revealed that students taught using the Jigsaw technique demonstrated superior reading comprehension achievement compared to those taught through conventional methods. The statistical analysis showed that the obtained t value exceeded the critical value at the 0.05 level of significance, indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. These results indicate that the Jigsaw technique, which promotes peer teaching, active participation, and cooperative learning, is an effective instructional strategy for enhancing students' reading comprehension and creating a more engaging learning environment.

Abstract

This study investigates students’ perceptions of the Pertukaran Mahasiswa Merdeka (PMM) 4 Program at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) Bali. The research aims to explore how participants perceive the academic, cultural, and personal dimensions of their experience during the exchange, including the benefits, challenges, and transformative impacts encountered throughout the program. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with four PMM 4 alumni from various Indonesian universities. The findings reveal that students hold predominantly positive perceptions of the program. Academically, PMM 4 enriched their learning experiences through exposure to diverse teaching methods, interdisciplinary courses, and active classroom engagement, which enhanced critical thinking and communication skills. Culturally, the program fostered intercultural awareness and appreciation of Indonesia’s pluralism, enabling participants to develop tolerance and empathy through direct immersion in Balinese traditions. Personally, students reported notable growth in confidence, adaptability, and independence while navigating new academic and social environments. However, several challenges were also identified, including differences in teaching styles, limited coordination between host and home institutions, and workload intensity. Despite these issues, PMM 4 was perceived as a holistic learning platform that integrates academic development with cultural and personal growth, effectively preparing students to engage in a globalized educational context. The study suggests that stronger institutional collaboration, improved mentoring systems, and balanced program design will further enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of PMM in the future.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of pair-work activities in developing students’ speaking confidence at SMAN 5 Palu. Using a descriptive qualitative research design, four Grade 11 students were purposively selected based on varying levels of speaking confidence. Data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that pair-work activities create a supportive, low-anxiety environment that encourages students to speak more freely. Students reported feeling more comfortable, less nervous, and more motivated when interacting with a peer instead of speaking individually or in front of the whole class. Despite challenges such as limited vocabulary, pronunciation difficulties, and fear of making mistakes, pair-work activities helped reduce anxiety and increased communication effort. The study concludes that pair-work is an effective strategy for improving speaking confidence and suggests that teachers integrate more structured and supportive pair-speaking tasks in classroom practice.
