Abstract

Planning strategies play a fundamental role in ensuring the quality and improving the performance of Islamic educational institutions amidst the dynamics of change and increasingly complex demands for quality education. This study aims to examine the role of planning strategies in ensuring educational quality and ensuring its impact on the performance of Islamic educational institutions. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a library research method, through analysis of various literature sources in the form of books, scientific journals, and relevant documents related to planning strategies, educational quality, and institutional performance. The results of the study indicate that planning strategies function as a primary instrument in formulating the vision, mission, objectives, and strategies of Islamic educational institutions in a systematic and directed manner. The implementation of planning strategies integrated with a quality assurance system can increase the effectiveness of the educational process, strengthen the culture of quality, and encourage continuous improvement in institutional performance. Thus, planning strategies are not only administrative documents, but also serve as an operational basis for managing the quality and performance of Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

The development of an ethical and moral–based learning culture is a core mission of Islamic elementary education, particularly at the upper-grade level where students experience significant cognitive and character formation. In many madrasah ibtidaiyah, learning practices still prioritize academic achievement, while ethical values and moral behavior are often taught implicitly and inconsistently. This condition necessitates a more systematic approach to embedding ethical and moral principles within everyday learning culture. This study aims to analyze the process of building an ethical and moral–based learning culture among Grade VI students at MI Darul Muhtadin, Talango District, Sumenep Regency, East Java, and to examine its influence on students’ learning attitudes and social behavior. This research employed a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers, school leaders, and students, as well as analysis of school documents. The data were analyzed thematically to identify strategies, patterns, and outcomes of moral and ethical habituation. The findings reveal that ethical and moral values were effectively fostered through teacher role modeling, routine religious and character-building activities, integrative instructional practices, and consistent enforcement of school norms. These efforts resulted in observable improvements in students’ discipline, respectfulness, responsibility, and cooperative learning behavior. Establishing an ethical and moral–based learning culture requires intentional integration of values into pedagogy, school routines, and institutional policies to support sustainable character development among students.

Abstract

Educational planning is a strategic process influenced by various interrelated internal and external factors. This study aims to analyze how political, national identity, economic, religious, and science and technology (S&T) factors have a positive impact as well as pose challenges to the development of education in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method, namely by examining books, national and international journals, and relevant previous studies. The results of the study show that politics plays a dominant role in directing education policy, but overly dynamic policy changes often lead to inconsistencies. National identity has proven to be important in shaping the character and identity of students through the internalization of national values. Economic factors are a major determinant of the quality and equity of education, while religion provides a moral foundation for the formation of students' personalities. Meanwhile, advances in science and technology encourage learning innovation, but also present challenges in the form of the digital divide and infrastructure limitations. Overall, this study concludes that effective educational planning must consider all these factors in an integrated manner so that the education system can develop in a sustainable, relevant, and adaptive manner in response to changing times.

Abstract

Strategy formulation is an important component of strategic management that serves to direct Islamic educational institutions in achieving long-term goals effectively and sustainably. This study aims to describe the concept of strategy formulation in Islamic education planning by examining Fred R. David's strategic management framework, which includes the formulation of vision and mission, analysis of the internal and external environment through the SWOT approach, determination of long-term goals based on SMART principles, and strategy selection through the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM). This research emphasizes three technical stages of strategy formulation, namely the input stage, the Stage Matching and the Decision Stage, which allows strategic decision-making to be carried out systematically, objectively, and measurably. The results of the analysis show that the formulation of the strategy not only clarifies the direction of education policy, but also increases the effectiveness of governance, competitiveness, and adaptability of Islamic educational institutions to environmental changes. The integration of Islamic values in the strategy formulation process also strengthens the character of the institution, so that the resulting strategy is not only managerial, but also reflects moral and spiritual principles. Thus, strategy formulation is an important instrument in realizing Islamic educational institutions that are superior, responsive, and oriented towards sustainable quality improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between strategic planning, education quality assurance, and institutional performance. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach through a literature study. Data was obtained from scientific journals, books, and relevant literature that discuss the concept of strategic planning, quality assurance systems, and performance management of educational institutions. The results of the study show that strategic planning plays an important role in determining the direction, goals, and priorities of quality programs that are the basis for the implementation of quality education. Meanwhile, quality assurance functions as an evaluative mechanism that ensures that the institution's strategy is implemented consistently through the PPEPP (Determination, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement) cycle. The integration between the two has been proven to be able to improve management effectiveness, learning quality, and institutional accountability. Therefore, the integration of strategic planning and quality assurance is a key factor in creating superior, sustainable, and adaptive institutional performance to change.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the concepts and basic principles of the balance scorecard relevant to Islamic education management, the stages and perspectives of the balance scorecard that can be applied in Islamic education planning, and the advantages and disadvantages of the balance scorecard in Islamic education strategy planning. It uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data was obtained through reviewing various literature such as books, articles, and journals to understand the phenomenon in depth theoretically and conceptually without involving field data collection. The results show that the balance scorecard (BSC) is a strategic management tools that assesses performance through four perspectives: financial, customer, internal processes, learning and growth, so that organizations obtain a more holistic picture of performance. In Islamic education, BSC helps align vision, strategy, programs, and performance indicators, despite its weaknesses such as the need for competent human resources and the potential for to many indicators. However, various studies show that BSC remains effective in improving the quality and performance of institutions in a targeted manner.

Abstract

Global educational challenges demand the development of critical thinking through approaches that integrate cognitive and ethical dimensions. This study examines how computational thinking and spirituality contribute to the development of students’ critical thinking skills in Indonesia and Malaysia. Using a quantitative design, data were collected from university students in both countries and analyzed through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The analysis reveals that computational thinking plays a more influential role in shaping students’ critical thinking in Malaysia, reflecting the strong emphasis on analytical and digital reasoning in instructional practices. In contrast, spirituality makes a stronger contribution in the Indonesian context, underscoring the importance of moral and spiritual values in supporting reflective and ethical reasoning. These differences highlight the role of cultural and pedagogical contexts in shaping cognitive development. Ultimately, the study demonstrates that integrating computational thinking and spirituality provides a holistic framework for strengthening students’ critical thinking, offering relevant implications for curriculum design and educational policy in higher education.

Abstract

Education must adapt to technological developments in order to maximize both the challenges and benefits that arise. The integration of digital technology in classroom learning has become one of the important innovations in contemporary learning. This article describes research and development of Android-based fiqh learning media designed to improve the learning outcomes of 10th grade students in Islamic high schools. This study used an R&D method with the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages from analysis to evaluation. The resulting product is an Android application called Baitullah, which focuses on Hajj and Umrah material. This product was declared highly feasible by three validators, with a percentage of 95% from subject matter experts, 96% from media experts, and 97% from learning practitioners. The responses of 20 students regarding the attractiveness of the product reached a percentage of 87% in the very attractive category. The N-Gain value was recorded at 0.59, indicating sufficient effectiveness. The t-test also yielded a p-value < 0,001, thus rejecting H0 and accepting Ha. It can be concluded from the analysis that there was a significant increase in learning outcomes after using the product, indicating that the Android-based fiqh learning media is effective for learning.

Abstract

Reading ability is fundamental for literacy development, yet many Indonesian students, including those at MIS Al-Hidayah Karangploso, struggle with simple texts due to limited engaging learning media. This study developed and evaluated an interactive Games Book to enhance early reading skills among 32 second-grade students using the ADDIE-based R&D approach. The digital flipbook integrates progressive reading stages (words, sentences, texts) with game-based activities providing immediate feedback and sustained engagement. Expert validation indicated high content validity with I-CVI = 1.00 for media, material, and language. Media was visually appealing and technically reliable; material was relevant, accurate, and engaging; language was appropriate, readable, and clear. Teacher and student responses confirmed strong practicality. Effectiveness testing showed students’ average scores increased from 63.78 to 91.56 (N-Gain = 0.8, high category), with Paired Sample t-test Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05. Furthermore, Cohen’s d = 1.51 and the 95% confidence interval (–34.90 to –20.66) indicate that the improvement was both statistically significant and practically meaningful. The Games Book is therefore highly valid, practical, and effective in improving early reading skills and motivation through structured, interactive digital learning experiences.
