Abstract

Digital transformation has created opportunities for integrating interactive media into learning processes. However, instructional practices in elementary schools remain largely surface-oriented and have not yet optimally fostered deep understanding or students’ critical thinking skills. Empirical investigation is therefore required to explore the role of interactive media as a catalyst for the transition toward meaningful learning. This study aims to analyze the role of interactive media in strengthening elementary school students’ critical thinking skills through deep learning processes. This quantitative study employed an explanatory survey design involving 680 elementary school teachers as respondents. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring three reflective constructs: Interactive Media, Deep Learning, and Critical Thinking. Data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS 4. The data, obtained from elementary school teachers through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire, captured information on the use of interactive media, deep learning practices, and students’ critical thinking skills. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied to examine both direct and indirect relationships among the variables. The findings indicate that the use of interactive media has a significant effect on deep learning. Deep learning was also found to have a significant effect on students’ critical thinking skills. Furthermore, deep learning serves as a significant mediator in the relationship between the use of interactive media and students’ critical thinking skills. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of interactive media in learning is determined not merely by the intensity of its use, but by its capacity to facilitate reflective, analytical, and meaningful learning processes. This study concludes that integrating interactive media designed to support deep learning represents a crucial strategy for strengthening critical thinking skills among elementary school students.

Abstract

The transformation of higher education in the digital era encourages the implementation of innovative technology-based learning models across countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia. This study aims to identify innovative learning models applied at Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University, Malang, Indonesia, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and to analyse their contributions to improving student spirituality. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach through case studies, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data are analysed thematically through the processes of data reduction, presentation, and verification. The results of the study show that both institutions develop technology-based learning that not only supports academic achievement but also strengthens students’ affective aspects, especially spirituality. Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang implements explicit integration of Islamic values into every digital learning component. At the same time, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia develops a contextual approach through value reflection and spiritually based projects. Lecturers at both institutions play a key role in guiding the use of technology for contemplation and character-building. These findings confirm that with the right pedagogical approach, technology can be an effective medium in strengthening students’ spiritual values in higher education.

Abstract

Indonesia’s pesantren have long been regarded as institutional centers of Islamic moderation. However, the socio-pedagogical processes through which religious moderation is constructed, transmitted, and internalized remain theoretically underexplored. This study examines how Madurese kiai construct and implement religious moderation across different pesantren typologies in Madura, Indonesia. Using a qualitative multi-site case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis at three pesantren during 2025. The findings reveal that all sites share a common wasathiyyah theological foundation based on tawassuth, tasamuh, tawazun, and ta’adul, while differing in their institutional implementation. Al-Hikam integrates moderation into the formal curriculum, Assirojiyyah embeds it through contextual kitab kuning interpretation within the salaf tradition, and Nurul Hikmah promotes it through dialogic-participatory pedagogy. Applying Berger and Luckmann’s framework of externalization, objectivation, and internalization, the study demonstrates that religious moderation in pesantren is not merely a state-driven normative agenda but a socially constructed reality shaped through kiai authority, pedagogical traditions, and everyday institutional interaction. The study contributes to the growing scholarship on Islamic education by conceptualizing religious moderation as a dynamic socio-cultural construction rather than solely a curricular project.

Abstract

The academic problems in this research study are multicultural Islamic education, which begins from academic anxiety that multicultural Islamic education development has not been implemented optimally. It is because Islamic education is often impressed as an education social fabrication system that is dogmatic, doctrinal, monolithic, and does not have a multicultural perspective. Meanwhile, the fact is that the position of Islamic education in developing dialogue with the community is very strategic since the fundamental of Islamic education is rahmatan lil 'alamiin, which can hold various aspects of life. It is a literature qualitative research with a documentary review and data analysis which uses three plots of activities that occur simultaneously, that are data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, or verification. The findings of this study include the theoretical level of the conceptualization of multicultural education by synthesizing western thoughts to be led to a map of Islamic thought, so as to produce methods, values, and the urgency of multicultural education on the basis of Islamic theology. Namely unity in the divine aspect and its message (revelation), prophetic unity, no compulsion in religion, and recognition of the existence of other religions. This research also found the essence of multiculturalism as a frame model for Islamic education, as well as the appropriate multicultural Islamic education method to be applied in Indonesia. These values include: unity of humankind, competition in good works, forgiveness toward humankind, living together, equality/egilitarianism, mutual understanding, mutual respect, trust, positive thinking, tolerance, and non-violence. The implications of the results of this research are to provide recommendations that the reconstruction of the multicultural Islamic education model is related to the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims by using learning theory that is relevant to the dynamics of the times and the diversification of religious communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Project-Based Learning (PjBL), the ecopedagogical approach, and Islamic ecotheological values on students' ecological awareness, with PjBL products as a mediating variable in Fiqh learning at state Islamic high school. This study employed a quantitative explanatory approach using the SEM-PLS method. The sample consisted of 120 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and project product assessment rubrics. The results show that PjBL (P-value < 0.001), the ecopedagogical approach (P-value = 0.004), and Islamic ecotheological values (P-value = 0.032) have a positive and significant effect on PjBL products. PjBL products also have a significant effect on ecological awareness (P-value = 0.001). However, PjBL (P-value = 0.089) and the ecopedagogical approach (P-value = 0.234) do not have a significant direct effect on ecological awareness, while Islamic ecotheological values remain significant (P-value = 0.032). Furthermore, PjBL products act as a full mediator in the relationship between PjBL and the ecopedagogical approach on ecological awareness but do not mediate the effect of Islamic ecotheological values. These findings indicate that ecological awareness is more effectively developed through learning experiences embodied in project products, while spiritual values have a direct influence on students' behaviour.

Abstract

This research is driven by the "knowledge-behavior gap" among students at MI Baipas Malang, where high environmental knowledge does not translate into real-world action. The study aims to conduct a need assessment for developing multimedia based on Ethno-Socioscientific Issues (Ethno-SSI) to enhance students' environmental awareness. Adopting the Analysis phase of the Lee and Owens model, this qualitative descriptive study used student questionnaires and teacher interviews. Findings show that students are visual-digital learners who require interactive content linked to Malang’s local wisdom, such as water spring preservation (punden). Although school technology is supportive, current materials lack socioscientific dilemmas to trigger critical thinking. In conclusion, developing Ethno-SSI multimedia is urgently needed to bridge the gap between understanding and action through cultural relevance and digital technology. This analysis serves as the foundation for the upcoming design and implementation stages. Key Words: Need analysis; Ethno-Socioscientific Issues; Multimedia; Environmental Awareness;

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Islamic ecotheological values on students’ ecological awareness in fiqh learning at MAN 4 Pekanbaru City. The ecological crisis occurring today indicates the low level of environmental awareness among society, including students in Islamic educational institutions. In fiqh learning, ecological values are often taught theoretically and have not been fully integrated into students’ daily behavior. This research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory design. The sample consisted of 120 students selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The variables examined in this study were Islamic ecotheological values as the independent variable and students’ ecological awareness as the dependent variable. The findings revealed that Islamic ecotheological values have a positive and significant effect on students’ ecological awareness, with a p-value of 0.032 (< 0.05). The results indicate that the internalization of Islamic values such as khalīfah fī al-ardh, amanah, mīzān, and the prohibition of environmental destruction contributes significantly to the development of students’ ecological behavior. Furthermore, fiqh learning integrated with Islamic ecotheological values encourages students to conserve water, maintain cleanliness, manage waste responsibly, and demonstrate greater concern for environmental sustainability. Therefore, integrating Islamic ecotheology into fiqh learning can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening ecological awareness and environmental responsibility among madrasah students.
