Abstract

Strategy formulation is an important component of strategic management that serves to direct Islamic educational institutions in achieving long-term goals effectively and sustainably. This study aims to describe the concept of strategy formulation in Islamic education planning by examining Fred R. David's strategic management framework, which includes the formulation of vision and mission, analysis of the internal and external environment through the SWOT approach, determination of long-term goals based on SMART principles, and strategy selection through the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM). This research emphasizes three technical stages of strategy formulation, namely the input stage, the Stage Matching and the Decision Stage, which allows strategic decision-making to be carried out systematically, objectively, and measurably. The results of the analysis show that the formulation of the strategy not only clarifies the direction of education policy, but also increases the effectiveness of governance, competitiveness, and adaptability of Islamic educational institutions to environmental changes. The integration of Islamic values in the strategy formulation process also strengthens the character of the institution, so that the resulting strategy is not only managerial, but also reflects moral and spiritual principles. Thus, strategy formulation is an important instrument in realizing Islamic educational institutions that are superior, responsive, and oriented towards sustainable quality improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between strategic planning, education quality assurance, and institutional performance. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach through a literature study. Data was obtained from scientific journals, books, and relevant literature that discuss the concept of strategic planning, quality assurance systems, and performance management of educational institutions. The results of the study show that strategic planning plays an important role in determining the direction, goals, and priorities of quality programs that are the basis for the implementation of quality education. Meanwhile, quality assurance functions as an evaluative mechanism that ensures that the institution's strategy is implemented consistently through the PPEPP (Determination, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement) cycle. The integration between the two has been proven to be able to improve management effectiveness, learning quality, and institutional accountability. Therefore, the integration of strategic planning and quality assurance is a key factor in creating superior, sustainable, and adaptive institutional performance to change.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the concepts and basic principles of the balance scorecard relevant to Islamic education management, the stages and perspectives of the balance scorecard that can be applied in Islamic education planning, and the advantages and disadvantages of the balance scorecard in Islamic education strategy planning. It uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data was obtained through reviewing various literature such as books, articles, and journals to understand the phenomenon in depth theoretically and conceptually without involving field data collection. The results show that the balance scorecard (BSC) is a strategic management tools that assesses performance through four perspectives: financial, customer, internal processes, learning and growth, so that organizations obtain a more holistic picture of performance. In Islamic education, BSC helps align vision, strategy, programs, and performance indicators, despite its weaknesses such as the need for competent human resources and the potential for to many indicators. However, various studies show that BSC remains effective in improving the quality and performance of institutions in a targeted manner.

Abstract

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) requires higher education programs to align intended graduate competencies, teaching, and assessment, yet evidence from Islamic higher education remains limited on how established curricula are optimized after initial adoption. This study investigated OBE-based curriculum optimization in the Elementary Madrasah Teacher Education Study Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and identified the factors enabling and constraining this process. A qualitative single-case design involved five purposively selected informants: the head of the study program, the program secretary, and three lecturers. Data were generated over one month through in-depth interviews, observation, and analysis of Semester Learning Plans, syllabi, and related curriculum documents. The data were examined through iterative reduction, interpretation, and conclusion drawing, while source and technique triangulation supported credibility. The findings identified four optimization practices: aligning Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL), Course Learning Outcomes (CPMK), and Sub-CPMK; incorporating alumni, graduate-user, and tracer-study input; strengthening lecturer commitment and integrity; and using authentic assessment. Supporting conditions included curriculum documentation, lecturer training and mentoring, stakeholder engagement, and national regulatory support. The principal constraints were the absence of a standardized instrument for measuring CPL attainment and uneven lecturer commitment. The study shows that optimization has progressed at the level of curriculum architecture and reported implementation, but its effects on graduate competence cannot yet be verified without validated attainment data. It therefore highlights the need to connect documentary OBE compliance with measurable classroom enactment and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in learning practices at MI Miftahul Ulum Kanigoro Pagelaran, Malang Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of the madrasah principal, classroom teachers, curriculum development team, and administrative staff. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at MI Miftahul Ulum Kanigoro has been relatively effective. This effectiveness is reflected in the participatory curriculum planning process, the implementation of student-centered learning, and the structured implementation of the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5), which contributes to developing students’ character and competencies. Supporting factors for the implementation include proactive leadership of the madrasah principal, a collaborative culture among teachers, and continuous training programs. Meanwhile, the identified inhibiting factors include the limited competence of some teachers in developing teaching modules and assessments, limited learning technology facilities, high administrative workloads, and limited human resources. Therefore, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at MI Miftahul Ulum Kanigoro Pagelaran, Malang Regency, has shown positive results, although further strengthening is still needed in teacher competence and infrastructure support to achieve more optimal effectiveness.

Abstract

This research explores the existential role of Ūlul Al-bāb's universal values in improving work ethic, achievement motivation, and performance at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. Using quantitative methods and Partial Least Square-Sequential Equation Model (PLS-SEM) analysis, this research examines the relationship between variables, emphasizing the mediating role of work ethic. Two hundred respondents were selected from a population of 506 permanent lecturers. The research results show a positive and significant relationship between Ūlul Al-bāb values and both work ethic and performance, which confirms that internalization of objective, moderate, and transcendental principles can improve the performance of lecturers within the institution. However, the direct relationship between Ūlul Al-bāb values and achievement motivation was found to be insignificant. This research also proves that work ethic emerges as an important mediator, linking Ūlul Al-bāb values to both achievement motivation and performance. These findings confirm the importance of translating Ūlul Al-bāb values into performance improvements. The practical implications of these findings are significant for human resource management in higher education.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology, educational transformation, and shifting learning paradigms have driven the need for more adaptive pedagogical approaches in Madrasah Aliyah, yet studies on learning theory within Islamic education remain fragmented and have not produced a comprehensive integrative framework. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of various learning theory paradigms, examine their relevance to contemporary learning, and formulate an integrative framework for applying these paradigms in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) practice at Madrasah Aliyah. The study employs a qualitative approach using the library research method, drawing data from 22 scholarly articles and other academic sources published between 2021 and 2026, analyzed through content analysis techniques. The findings show that the paradigms of behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, humanism, and social learning theory remain relevant in explaining contemporary learning processes, as summarized in a comparative matrix of the paradigms. Learning practices in Madrasah Aliyah demonstrate the integration of these five paradigms through project-based, problem-based, collaborative, and differentiated learning, as well as digital technology use, with implications for developing more adaptive and contextual PAI teaching methods and media. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative conceptual framework that explicitly connects five learning theory paradigms with the context of PAI learning at the Madrasah Aliyah level, a scope not yet comprehensively addressed in prior conceptual research. Accordingly, the integration of learning theory paradigms can serve as a conceptual foundation for designing learning that balances students' cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and spiritual development in line with the demands of Islamic education in the digital era.
