Abstract

Methods of soil and water conservation in tropical wetlands have been carried out is using chemicals to increase the stability of soil aggregates and water-holding capacity. The experiment aims to improve soil stability using Polyacrylamide (PAM) and Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) materials. Experiment was carried out in R&D Dept. PT. Great Giant Pineapple (PT. GGP), Lampung. The treatment was to mix ingredients into the water with variations the ratio of ingredients (g): water (ml), among others, 1:100, 1:200, 1:300, and 1:400. Next, the SAP/PAM material is mixed into 100 g of soil with a dose of 0 g, 4 g, 8.5 g and 10 g of SAP. After the soil was mixed with the SAP, take as much as 15 g and place it in a pot containing 1 kg of soil. Results experiment show the SAP is a polymer capable of increasing water availability in ultisols and sand used in the experiment and can increase the water content by 18% if compared control. Meanwhile, PAM is a more dominant polymer in its function as an aggregate adhesive instead of a water binder. Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) and Polyacrylamide (PAM) can chemically function as chemicals for soil conservation.

Abstract

The Thermal Humidity Index (THI) serves as a critical measure of environmental thermal comfort, particularly vital for living beings in densely populated regions. This study projects and classifies THI in the western northern coastal areas of Central Java using Machine Learning (ML) techniques. Utilizing temperature and humidity data from 2018 to 2024, THI projections were conducted using the XGBoost algorithm, whereas comfort level classifications were performed using the Random Forest algorithm. The results indicate that Semarang City, eastern Kendal, Pemalang, and Tegal frequently experienced slightly uncomfortable conditions (THI 27–30), particularly during the rainy and transitional seasons, whereas other regions maintained comfortable levels (THI < 27). The THI projection model for 2025–2029 achieved an accuracy of 73%, while the classification model attained a remarkably high accuracy of 99.94%. These findings highlight the need for enhanced regional management strategies in areas with reduced thermal comfort.

Abstract

Many students face difficulties in writing scientific articles that meet the standards of accredited journals, particularly Sinta 2, both in terms of substance and technical writing. This community service activity aims to improve students' skills in writing scientific articles in accordance with academic rules and reputable publication standards. The method used was training through a combination of material presentations and coaching clinics. The activity was carried out at the Biology Education Study Programme, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak, involving 14 students as participants. In the initial stage, students were introduced to the basic principles of scientific article writing, manuscript structure, and citation formats in accordance with accredited journal styles. Next, coaching clinics were conducted through individual guidance, where each participant received direct feedback on their article drafts. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in the quality of the articles produced. Participants who initially had difficulty in writing titles, abstracts, and bibliographies began to show better understanding and were able to adjust their writing to the applicable standards. A comparison between the initial draft and the revised version shows noticeable improvements in both language and structure. Thus, this training and coaching clinic proved to be effective in improving students' competence in scientific writing and preparing them for publication in accredited journals.

Abstract

Global climate change has triggered an increase in the occurrence of significant wave heights (SWH) and sea level rise (SLR) in coastal areas, including the northern coast of Central Java, Indonesia (Pantura). These phenomena directly impact maritime activities, coastal erosion, and tidal flooding. This study aims to classify and predict significant wave height (SWH) and sea level rise (SLR) trends using a machine learning approach based on the Random Forest (RF) algorithm. Daily meteorological and oceanographic observation data from 2019 to 2024, provided by BMKG, serve as the main dataset. The dataset includes wind speed, ocean current velocity, air pressure, and wave direction. SWH is categorized into three classes: Calm, Low, and Moderate. The classification model achieved excellent performance with an accuracy of 98.54%, a macro F1-score of 0.942, and maintained strong accuracy even for the minority class (Moderate) despite data imbalance. The RF Regressor for SWH prediction yielded an R² of 0.864, MAE of 0.067, and RMSE of 0.109 m. Visualizations such as scatter plots, boxplots, and heatmaps supported the conclusion that ocean current speed and wave period are key factors influencing SWH. The study concludes that Random Forest is effective for classifying and predicting sea conditions in tropical regions like Pantura, and it is feasible for implementation in data-driven early warning systems to mitigate coastal risks. This contributes to marine safety and coastal risk mitigation planning.

Abstract

Conditions on sandy soil aggregate stability are generally classified as weak. This is because the sandy soil itself has a low organic matter content so that only a few plants can grow on the soil. Therefore, efforts must be made to improve the aggregate stability of the soil. The way that can be done is by adding organic fertilizer of empty palm bunches and also NPK fertilizer. This research was conducted from July 2023 to March 2024 in Marga Agung Village, South Lampung Regency. This study itself was carried out by applying a Randomized Block Design consisting of 7 treatments, namely A = Control; B = 1 NPK (350 kg/ha Urea, 100 kg/ha SP-36, 75 kg/ha KCl); C = ¾ NPK; D = ¾ NPK + 2 tons/ha Organic Fertilizer; E = ¾ NPK + 4 tons/ha Organic Fertilizer; F = ¾ NPK + 6 tons/ha Organic Fertilizer; G = 1 NPK + 8 tons/ha Organic Fertilizer. Then for the observation variables themselves, which include aggregate stability, c-organic, soil texture, and soil density. The results itself was analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methods by contrasting the analysis data which are contained determination class criteria. The results indicated that aggregate stability does not have a significant effect the residue of organic fertilizer of oil palm empty fruit bunches (TKKS) and NPK fertilizer. Treatment E = ¾ NPK + ½ Organic Fertilizer has the best aggregate stability compared to other treatments.

Abstract

This study examines the role of civic engagement in addressing urban slum issues, specifically through the Slum-Free City (KoTaKu) program in Bansir Laut Village, Pontianak. Using a qualitative approach, this research describes the various forms of citizen participation observed at every stage of the program, from planning to sustained implementation. The findings indicate that civic engagement is demonstrated through the proactive attitudes and behaviors of residents, supported by strong motivation and economic incentives. However, the program faced obstacles such as a lack of opportunity due to residents' busyness, social jealousy, and resistance from some community members. These challenges were successfully managed through incremental socialization, capacity building, and conflict resolution. Overall, civic engagement through the KoTaKu program proved to be a crucial step in creating a more livable and productive residential environment and improving community welfare. It is important to note that these findings are specific to Bansir Laut Village and may not be generalizable to other locations, as each community has its own unique social, economic, and dynamic characteristics.
