Abstract

The weakening of the regional economy is often a complex social problem. Criminal behavior can occur such as theft of residents' houses caused by the weakening of the regional economy. The study was conducted in Merangin Regency, Jambi Province, which is the second largest palm oil producing province after Riau Province. Merangin is a district with the largest palm oil productivity in Jambi Province. Merangin Regency's dependence on palm oil production is the reason why this location is suitable for research. This study is included in qualitative research with a phenomenological approach that examines precisely and in depth the influence of the regional economy on criminal theft behavior in Merangin Regency, Jambi Province. The weakening of the regional economy due to dependence on income from the weakening of palm oil production and fluctuations in the price of determining Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) which have an impact on criminal behavior such as theft. This is caused by the loss of people's fixed income and the influence of other factors such as drug consumption which requires perpetrators to fulfill their needs by stealing. The weakening of the local economy also causes low microeconomic resilience because the fulfillment of household needs is reduced and income is also reduced. Meanwhile, national security, which is a function of the police institution, is also disrupted because negative assumptions about the police are developing in society, resulting in feelings of reluctance and fear of reporting to the police if a criminal act of theft occurs in Merangin Regency.

Abstract

The ASEAN Our Eyes Initiative (OEI) was established as a regional intelligence-sharing platform in response to the growing threat of cyberterrorism in Southeast Asia. As the initiator, Indonesia has demonstrated regional leadership in promoting collective security based on ASEAN’s core principles of identity, nationalism, and strategic integrity. China’s increasing involvement in OEI-related activities introduces a complex strategic dynamic. On one hand, China’s technological support and intelligence-sharing capabilities have the potential to enhance ASEAN’s cyber defense. On the other hand, dependence on external actors may undermine ASEAN’s strategic autonomy and weaken its leadership in regional security affairs. This study offers a novel contribution by critically examining the ambivalent role of China in the OEI, an aspect that remains underexplored in current defense literature. Using a qualitative approach through a structured literature review, this research analyzes academic publications, official defense policies, and intelligence-related reports to evaluate both the benefits and risks of China’s participation. The findings indicate that while China’s involvement can significantly enhance ASEAN’s operational capacity in addressing cyberterrorism, it also carries the potential to shift the regional balance of power, thereby threatening ASEAN’s identity and independence as a security actor. This leads to clear policy implications in which ASEAN, particularly Indonesia, must establish transparent and rules-based cooperation frameworks to define the boundaries of external engagement. Strengthening intra-ASEAN collaboration and investing in domestic cyber defense capabilities are essential to safeguarding the sustainability of OEI. By maintaining a careful balance between external support and regional sovereignty, OEI can continue to serve as a credible, ASEAN-driven security mechanism. This study recommends enhancing joint oversight mechanisms, legal safeguards, and internal resilience to ensure that the initiative remains rooted in the region’s foundational values of unity, autonomy, and collective integrity.

Abstract

China’s growing influence in Southeast Asia has increasingly been exercised not only through material power, but also through international communication and discursive practices that shape regional norms and perceptions. Existing studies on China’s rise tend to privilege economic and strategic explanations, often overlooking the communicative processes through which hegemony is constructed and legitimized. Addressing this gap, this article examines China’s regional influence from a neo-Gramscian perspective, focusing on international communication as an arena of hegemonic consolidation and contestation. This study aims to analyze how China articulates hegemonic narratives in Southeast Asia and how Indonesia responds through communication-based counter-diplomacy. Using a qualitative case study approach, this study analyzes secondary data consisting of policy documents, diplomatic statements, media coverage, and digital diplomacy materials published between 2014 and 2024. The data are examined through discourse analysis, framing analysis, and qualitative content analysis to identify patterns of hegemonic narratives and counter-narratives. The findings show that China’s hegemony operates through the integration of material initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Security Initiative—with discursive strategies that normalize Chinese leadership. Indonesia responds through adaptive counter-diplomacy that emphasizes international communication, ASEAN centrality, and inclusive regional norms to preserve narrative autonomy under conditions of asymmetric interdependence. The study demonstrates that counter-hegemonic practices in contemporary regional politics increasingly rely on communicative and symbolic strategies rather than overt confrontation.

Abstract

Program penguatan literasi dasar ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan dan keterlibatan belajar melalui kombinasi membaca terbimbing dan penataan sudut baca kelas pada siswa kelas III selama kegiatan KKN. Mitra adalah SDN Citarik 2 (SD-A; 24 siswa) dan SDN Citarik 3 (SD-B; 21 siswa). Desain menggunakan pra–pasca tanpa kelompok pembanding selama 5 minggu (dua sesi membaca terbimbing per minggu dan aktivasi sudut baca harian). Indikator kinerja meliputi: (1) pemahaman bacaan (pra–pasca), (2) kunjungan sudut baca per siswa per minggu, dan (3) keterlibatan belajar berdasarkan rubrik 0–2 (on-task, partisipasi, strategi tampak).

Abstract

Sekolah Ibu Cerdas was a program implemented in Bojong Village, Parigi District, Pangandaran Regency, as a holistic effort to improve mothers’ understanding of balanced nutrition and parenting in preventing stunting. This community-based activity focused on educational sessions involving 41 mothers with children under five. Evaluation was conducted through nutritional status measurements using weight-for-age (W/A) and height-for-age (H/A) Z-scores, as well as a post-education questionnaire assessing mothers’ knowledge and attitudes toward stunting. Results of data collection at the time showed that most children had normal nutritional status (W/A = 85.4%) and appropriate height for age (H/A = 70.7%). The average knowledge and attitude score was 24.51, indicating a generally good understanding among participants. The program also raised awareness about the importance of the First 1000 Days of Life, balanced nutrition, and democratic parenting practices that support child development. Therefore, Sekolah Ibu Cerdas proved effective in enhancing family nutrition literacy and positive parenting as a preventive measure against stunting at the village level. Keywords: Balanced nutrition, mother empowerment, parenting, stunting.

Abstract

This study examines Indonesia’s economic interests in its decision to become a full member of BRICS in 2025, focusing on the period from 2018 to 2025. Indonesia’s membership in this alliance is influenced by global dynamics that reveal the limitations of the international economic order, which developed countries have dominated. This study aims to identify Indonesia’s strategic motivations in the context of economic diplomacy and how the government uses the BRICS forum to pursue its national interests. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review and analyzes the cooperation and negotiation processes carried out by Indonesia. Economic diplomacy theory is the primary framework for explaining how states combine political and economic instruments to achieve national prosperity and strategic stability, supported by the concepts of national interests, cooperation, and negotiation. The findings reveal that Indonesia uses BRICS as an alternative financing channel for development, export market diversification, and strengthening its bargaining position in global forums. However, this membership also presents challenges, such as the dominance of major powers within BRICS, potential tensions with regional organizations, and risks associated with foreign debt management. The main contribution of this study is a comprehensive analysis of Indonesia’s economic diplomacy strategy within the context of South-South cooperation, which has not been extensively examined in previous research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Rethinking Plastics Project (2019-2022) in Tegal City in the context of marine plastic waste management and its contribution to the development of Government and Political Science. The method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving the Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Service of the Tegalsari Archipelago Fisheries Port, the Tegal Bahari Children's Forum (Fantri), and waste management businesses in coastal areas. Data were collected through document analysis and analyzed using the process tracing method. The results show that although the project succeeded in reducing the percentage of plastic waste significantly at the peak of the intervention, the reduction cannot be fully attributed to the project due to limited coverage and duration of implementation. Local policies such as restrictions on single-use plastics and increasing the capacity of TPS (landfill sites) also played a significant role. This study emphasizes the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration and the integration of local policies with bilateral initiatives for sustainable plastic waste management. Recommendations include the establishment of a coordination forum, the development of incentive schemes, the expansion of inclusive education, and the strengthening of the circular economy through budget support and technical training. The contribution of this study lies in understanding the dynamics of cooperation between local governments and non-state actors in sustainable environmental management.
