Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This qualitative research found the type of Instagram greeting and the factors that influence the selection of greetings using data from greeting words in Instagram users' captions from accounts that appeared randomly on the researcher's home page. The methods used are observation, documentation, and content analysis, with researchers using a print screen or munch screen features on computers or mobile phones to document data. The study has identified around 106 greetings in 9 different types, with the greeting to mention loyal customers having the highest number and the kinship greeting being the second. Many bussiness, health, parenting, and daily activities accounts choose kinship greetings to foster closeness or familiarity with their potential targets. This study shows that Instagram is a potential social media to influence customer decisions with information about their business. While there are still opportunities for more specific research, this study contributes to understanding the variety of greetings on Instagram in general.

Abstract

Differences in students’ cognitive style aspects allow for differences in students’ conceptions of their understanding of Newton’s laws. This study aims to determine the profile of students’ conceptions in-depth based on their cognitive styles. This research used a qualitative method with a descriptive phenomenological design involving cognitive style tests with GEFT (Group Embedded Figured Test) on 30 students to be categorized based on their cognitive styles. From the 30 participants, three strongly field-dependent and three strongly field-independent students were selected. Six selected students were diagnosed using a four-tier diagnostic instrument for their understanding and conceptions. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted to investigate the students’ conceptions in depth. This study concludes that field-independent (FI) students frequently display an inclination toward analytical thinking by self-exploring. However, they frequently experience difficulties in analyzing concepts without a solid foundation in physics, which can result in certain theoretical misconceptions. Conversely, field-dependent (FD) students can receive a broader range of information but demonstrate difficulties in analytical tasks, such as interpreting graphs and establishing causal relationships between physical quantities, which can result in correlational misconceptions. To rectify this misconception, it is imperative to implement a bespoke pedagogical strategy that integrates efficacious elucidations, tangible exemplifications, structured scaffolding, inquiry, and methodical practical exercises.

Abstract

Many students and academics face difficulties in English academic writing, particularly non-native speakers of English. This paper examines the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in optimizing English academic writing in intelligent decision supporting systems (IDSS). Various literatures were studied to find out how AI can help improve English academic writing. The findings reveal that AI can improve grammar, spelling, sentence construction and make suggestions for clarity and cohesion through tools like Grammarly. Furthermore, integrating AI into IDSS also promotes more efficient and data driven decisions. However, there are still barriers like complex data analysis, ensuring accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content, and addressing ethical issues including bias and transparency. This simple paper highlights the importance of developing more sophisticated and user-friendly AI technologies and the need for further research to explore the long-term impact of using AI in English academic writing for Indonesia context. The results are beneficial to learners, educators and learning institutions as they employ AI tools with the purpose to improve the English academic writing quality and support better decision making.
