Abstract

Rotation is an essential part of geometric transformations. This research aims to produce a learning trajectory of rotation material and determine the role of activities in learning the rotation which is expected to be able to support students understanding the concept of rotation learning in grade IX. The approach used is Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) with Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) as learning system. The method used in this research is a design research type validation study. This research was conducted in limited face-to- fece meetings at secondary school number 1 Palembang during the pandemic and involved 13 students of class IX. The data were collected using video recordings and photos taken during the learning process, student interviews, student work, discussion results, and field notes at each meeting. The results of this study indicate that the learning trajectory can support the informal to formal concept of rotation, including the activity of recording the starting point and endpoint, analyzing and interpreting changes of starting and endpoints using one’s language, and writing the rotation formula. Therefore, it can be concluded that a series of activities by exploring the Palembang songket fabric motif plays a role in helping students understand the concept of rotation easily and allows them to produce rational imaginations and fun learning. Abstract

Sometimes our smartphone's internal storage is complete, and we must download an application that is very necessary at that time; this is where numeracy plays a role in solving this problem, namely the way we download the desired application with a complete smartphone's internal storage. This study aims to produce valid and practical PISA-type questions and activities using a smartphone context and potentially effective on students' numeracy skills. This design research-type development study comprised a preliminary and formative evaluation phase consisting of the design stage, self-evaluation stage, expert review stage, one-to-one stage, and small group stage. This research used question grids, question cards, assessment rubrics, lesson plans, PISA-type questions, and student activity sheets as its tools. This study was initiated owing to the insufficient numeracy skills of Indonesian students. This study focuses on seventh-grade students at secondary school number 59 Palembang, Indonesia. The qualitative findings of this research are based on field data collected through walkthroughs, observations, tests, interviews, and document reviews. This research yielded PISA-type questions and activities, namely four activity questions and six evaluation questions with smartphone context that seventh graders may utilize to develop their numeracy abilities. In conclusion, PISA-type questions and activities in the context of smartphones can be used in classroom learning to strengthen students' numeracy skills. Abstract

This research is aimed to design learning environment in which teacher can create a learning process in develop their reflective practices. Gending Sriwijaya traditional dance, which is familiar with culture in South Sumatera Indonesia, can be as a starting point for context in geometry translation. Applying The Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Learning Approach (PMRI) is one approach that uses contextual. The research used design research consisting of preparation of the experiment, design experiment and retrospective analysis. This research data were collected through classroom observation, documentation, interview, and field notes. The result of this research tries to establish that reflective teaching practice is a tool to makes room for teachers to critically examine any assumptions regarding acceptable objectives, methods, problems and solutions. By reflecting, conducting analysis, and coming to conclusions about what has occurred, the teacher might indirectly learn about the benefits and drawbacks of applying what they have learned. Collaborative learning supports and enhances learning by engaging groups which work together to solve problems, complete tasks, or learn new concepts. Abstract

This development research aims to produce PISA-like mathematics problems with quantity content using a valid and practical COVID-19 context and to investigate the potential effect of these problems on mathematical literacy skills. This research employed a development research design with two stages: preliminary and formative evaluations. This study also employed the Lesson Study Learning Community (LSLC) system in the process of development and implementation. This study involved eighth-grade students aged 13-15 years at SMP Negeri 19 Palembang. The data were collected using walk-through, document, observation, interview, and test techniques. This study produced 6 units and 12 items of PISA-like mathematics problems with several content characteristics of the COVID-19 context, including working, personal, and social contexts and levels that agree with the 2018 PISA framework; and competence processes, such as mathematical literacy skills and standardized linguistic skills that can be applied and interpreted by students. To conclude, the developed PISA-like mathematics problems are valid and practical and potentially affect mathematical literacy skills and learning to confront life skills during the COVID-19 pandemic.DOI : https://doi.org/10.22342/jpm.16.2.17055.141-156

Abstract

This study aims to produce valid and practical PISA-based numerical problems in the context of the pandemic period and to find out the role of the questions in the form of potential effects on the mathematical literacy skills of secondary school students. This research uses developmental research design, which has 2 stages, namely preliminary and formative evaluation (self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one and small group validation, and field test). The participants in this study were students in Grade 8 who were under the age of 15 and different levels of skills. Data analysis was done descriptively by conducting observations, tests, interviews, and document analysis. The research was conducted face-to-face and via Zoom and WhatsApp Group (WAG) to produce valid and practical PISA-like arithmetic questions. Based on the students' responses, it can be stated that the questions presented are in the practical category because they can be completed quickly by students, they can be understood well by students, and they have the potential effect on students' mathematical literacy skills. In addition, there is a diversity of answers between one student and another according to the level of difficulty that is appropriate for Grade 8 students. Abstract

This study aims to determine mathematical abilities of the students in grade 8 in solving statistical problem using RME and LSLC in online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learning began with the provision of were given interactive videos as an asynchronous pre-learning stage. Furthermore, at the synchronous stage, students were given sharing tasks and jumping tasks then synchronous activities were closed by giving independent assignments. In asynchronous pre-learning, students sent independent assignments via Google Classroom at a predetermined time. Subjects in this study were 31 eight graders junior high school students. This research used a descriptive method, where the data were obtained by using observation, test, and interview. The data were analyzed qualitatively descriptively. The result of this study is students’ abilities in a good category with an average 68,5. Therefore, it is concluded that RME and LSLC are suitable for use during a pandemic as teaching methods for statistics.DOI : https://doi.org/10.22342/jpm.16.2.14162.215-226

Abstract

This study aims to explore the students’ mathematical understanding in integers division operation through the context of archipelago traditional cakes in class VII. This research is related to the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Approach (PMRI) as a learning approach used. The methodology used in this study is Design Research consisting of three stages: preliminary design, experimental design, and retrospective analysis. The study was conducted for VII grade students of SMPN 1 Palembang. The learning path (Hypothetical Learning Trajectory) in design research plays an important role as a research design and instrument. The Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) was developed together with a series of activities using the context of archipelago traditional cakes such as: omelette roll, bakpia, milk pie, etc. Media used in this study was the Students’ Worksheet. The results of this study indicate that exploration using the context of traditional archipelago cakes can help students understanding in multiplication and division of integers. The conclusion of this study is the use of archipelago traditional cakes as starting point in mathematics learning in integer division operation material helps the students to explore their understanding in solving mathematics problems.

Abstract

This study purposes to describe the strategies used by students in solving PISA type problems seen from the strategy of problem solving according to Polya. The research methodology is qualitative type descriptive study. Research subjects were 6 high school students in Palembang who had different levels of mathematical ability. Data was gathered using observation, interviews, and student answer sheets on the type of PISA questions given. The results showed that the dominant strategy used by students in solving PISA type problems included making pictures when they solve problem related to geometry; looking for possible answers systematically when they try to solve problem within numeric; writing information stated and the question when the problem is in the form of storytelling; and using trial and error when the problem provide answer alternatives. Abstract

This study aims to produce statistical learning designs in the introduction of the concept of average values and knowing student learning outcomes in learning average values by previously learning about the presentation of data consisting of tables and diagrams through learning trajectories and what happens during the learning process. This learning is based on Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC), the approach of Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI). This study uses a type of Design Research method research design type of validation study, which involves in MTs 1 in Palembang. There are three stages in design research type validation studies namely Preparing for the experiment in the form of literature study and the design of the Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT); Design experiment in the form of a Preliminary Teaching Experiment (Pilot Experiment) and Teaching Experiment; and Restrospective analysis. The instruments used were written test, video and field notes. The results of learning experiments show that the design of learning provided has helped students understand the concept of Mean. Abstract

This development research aimed to develop valid and practical PISA-like math tasks on algebra using Arabic contexts that potentially affect mathematical literacy skills. This research was comprised of two stages, preliminary and formative evaluations. This research employed the lesson study learning community (LSLC) system in the development and implementation process and involved grade eight students aged 13-15 years old in Junior High School 19 Palembang. Data collection techniques were walkthrough, observations, and interviews, while the analysis techniques were tests. This research produced six units and nine items of PISA-like-math problems with the content characteristics using Algebra topic, Arabic personal and social contexts, levels 2, 3, 5 and 6 following the 2018 PISA framework, process competencies at mathematical literacy skills, standard language application, applicability for students, and interpret by students. To conclude, the developed PISA-like math tasks were valid, provided practicality, and potentially affected on mathematical literacy skills, and learning to confront Arabic culture in South Sumatera.
