The data collection methods used were observation, questionnaires, and conducting in-depth interviews with a sample of 40 respondents. The results obtained from this study are  that clean water sanitation in the community there can be said to be good because the whole community has used their main water and the whole house has used family latrines or private latrines so that no one anymore throws their feces or feces carelessly. However, there are still many people who do not pay attention to their personal hygiene such as lack of awareness that it is important to wash hands before and after eating and/or after defecation. The environment around the village is also far from healthy because there are no facilities that support environmental facilities such as garbage dumps, and there are still many people who throw their garbage into the river and throw their garbage carelessly in their yards.

Abstract

Abstract

Along with the increase in tuberculosis (TB) cases, there has also been a rise in the number of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) cases, which poses a serious threat to global TB control efforts. Globally, there are 400,000 DR-TB cases according to the WHO report in 2024, with Indonesia contributing 7.4% of the total cases. In North Sumatra, the incidence of DR-TB cases reached 54%. This study aims to analyze and identify the factors influencing the incidence of DR-TB among DR-TB patients at the Special Lung Hospital of the Provincial Government of North Sumatra. The study uses a quantitative approach with a case-control design utilizing secondary data from the SITB application at the Special Lung Hospital of the Provincial Government of North Sumatra from 2021-2024. The sample consists of 204 individuals with a 1:1 ratio, comprising 102 individuals with DR-TB and 102 controls with non-DR-TB. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. This study sets DR-TB incidence as the dependent variable, while independent variables include sex, employment status, age, treatment outcome, access to health service facilities, residence, contact examination, TB treatment history, diagnosis type, diabetes mellitus status, and HIV status. Data were analyzed using three tests: univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, and multivariate analysis with the use of statistical software version 22. The results show that factors significantly influencing DR-TB incidence include age (CI 95%: 4.7 [2.3-9.5]), employment (CI 95%: 3.4 [1.7-6.6]), and a history of previous TB treatment (CI 95%: 14.7 [5.5-39]).

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global and national health issue with a continuously rising prevalence. Data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) indicates that the prevalence of DM in individuals aged ≥15 years has reached 11.7%. This increase highlights the crucial need for early education, especially among students. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of education using a leaflet medium in improving students' knowledge of DM. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental approach and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 31 seventh and eighth-grade students from MTsS Nurhasanah Labuhan Ruku, selected through total sampling. Knowledge was measured using a questionnaire administered both before (pretest) and after (posttest) the educational intervention with the leaflet. A bivariate data analysis using the Paired Samples Test revealed a significant increase in students' knowledge levels. Before the education, 71% of students had poor knowledge, which decreased to 16.1% after the intervention. Conversely, the percentage of students with good knowledge increased from 29% to 83.9%. The statistical test result showed a p-value of 0.0001, confirming a significant difference in student knowledge before and after the intervention. Therefore, this study concludes that education through a leaflet medium is effective in improving students' knowledge of diabetes mellitus.
