Abstract

Measurement achievement of scientific literacy skills in students is very important to know the extent to which students have literacy science and become an international benchmark for the quality of a country education. The purpose of this study is to describe the achievement of scientific literacy skills of students in full day junior high school Semarang in science subject of solar system material. This research uses mixed method concurrent triangulation. In general, the tests results of science literacy skills achievement of students in junior full day school Semarang in middle category were a percentage score by an average 33.55%, namely science as a body of knowledge by 8.44%, science as a way of investigating by 4.41%, science as a way of thinking by 8.38%, Interaction of science, environment, technology, and society by 12.32%. Based on the results of research and discussion can be concluded that the achievement of scientific literacy skills of students in junior full day junior high school Semarang is middle category and necessary to increase the achievement of science literacy skills in students. System full day school still have not been able to develop the quality of education and prepare students for the challenges of the development of the modern era. Hopefully this research could eventually become the latest reference achievement of science literacy skills of students in the education system full day school and become material evaluate for education so the result could be recommendation about the education system to improve science literacy.

Abstract

Physics has become the foundation of vocational competence of vocational high school or Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) in technology and engineering expertise. This research aimed to find out the ability of automotive practice in terms of the understanding of physics students SMK skills competency in Light Vehicle Engineering or Teknik Kendaraan Ringan (TKR). This study was a qualitative research with the subjects of this research were students grade X of TKR class at three SMK in Pekalongan. The data were collected by conducting the library research, test, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed qualitatively descriptive. The results of library research analysis on the physics basic competence of SMK curriculum 2013 with the TKR basic competence show thirteen relevant physics material and one physics material not relevant to the basic competencies of TKR. Physics material that is irrelevant is straight and circular motion. The results of the physics tests of students in three SMK are still low, while the value of students' automotive practices is in the good category. This shows that students' physical abilities have not become the basis for learning automotive practices.

Abstract

Learning in the 21st century needs to accommodate e-learning without having to leave face to face in order to keep it interesting and effective. The innovation that can be done is through the implementation of blended learning to combine the two. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, students learn from home so online learning is a must. The purpose of this study is to analyze students' cognitive learning outcomes through the implementation of blended learning in Science in the material on temperature and its changes in Junior High School. This experimental research used a pretest-posttest control group design which contained an experimental class (blended learning) and a control class (online learning only). The sample of this research is the 7th grade students at SMPIT Harapan Bunda Semarang. Collecting data in this study used test methods in the form of pretest and posttest. For data analysis used analysis of learning outcomes completeness, N-gain test and t-test. Based on data analysis, it was found that the implementation of blended learning in Junior high school in science learning was effective enough to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes compared to face-to-face online learning only. This is indicated by the percentage of student learning completeness in the experimental class of 79.66%, while in the control class it is 68.33%. From the results of the N-gain test and t-test it was also found that the experimental class had a higher increase of 0.50, while the control class was 0.44. Key words: blended learning, cognitive learning outcomes, learning mastery

Abstract

Nowadays, students need scientific literacy to develop skills to deal with technological developments in the industrial era 4.0. According to several studies, the scientific literacy of Junior High School and Islamic Junior High School students in various regions in Indonesia is in the medium and low categories. Innovative teaching materials appropriate for use in online learning are digital teaching materials. The development of SETS-based digital teaching materials is one of the efforts to improve students' scientific literacy in an online learning. The purpose of this research is to analyze how the validity, readability, and effectiveness of SETS based digital heat teaching materials improve the scientific literacy of Junior High School students. The method employed in this research was the Research and Development (R&D. It took the research sample from seventh-grade students of State Junior High School 3 Juwana by selecting three classes totalling 90 students. The expert validation of teaching materials using expert judgment obtained a score of 93.18% and the proof of media experts received 92.65%, indicating that teaching materials were suitable for learning media. The readability test results to the teaching materials using the gap test showed that the teaching materials were easy to understand. The results of the N-gain test from the pretest and posttest scores obtained a score of 0.706, which indicated that the enhancement of student’s scientific literacy was in the high category. Based on these result, it can be concluded that SETS-based digital teaching materials were effective in improving the scientific literacy of Junior High School students.

Abstract

Misunderstanding in drawing conclusions about a concept caused by errors and incomplete thinking is called misconception. The existing misconception can lead to ongoing misconception if it is not immediately corrected. This study aimed to analyze how the level of misconceptions that occured in prospective science teachers. This study was conducted using a mixed-method with an explanatory sequential design. Methods of collecting data were Three Tier Multiple Choice (TTMC) test questions to analyze the misconception and in-depth interview to determine the factors causing misconceptions. The instrument used in this study was TTMC diagnostic test. Technique used for analyzing misconceptions data were descriptive percentages and for analyzing factors causing misconceptions data were in-depth interview. The results show that 60.4% of prospective science teacher students had misconceptions, which means that the misconceptions that occured were in the high category. Factors causing misconceptions were dominated by incompleteness in understanding the material, the influence of previous learning, the references used contain the wrong concept, low interest in deepening the material to find out the correct concept. This study is expected to help teachers and prospective teachers to decide what learning methods can be used to prevent misconceptions. Remediation can be done to find out where the misconceptions occur so that it can be corrected more quickly.
