Abstract

Inclusive education extends beyond physical access to schooling and requires meaningful social participation among all learners, including students with special needs. In Islamic elementary schools, inclusive practices are further shaped by religious values that emphasize compassion, justice, and collective responsibility. However, empirical evidence remains limited on how social interactions are enacted in everyday classroom life and how teacher support operates within faith-based inclusive settings. This study aims to examine how social interactions between students with special needs and their peers manifest in inclusive Islamic elementary schools and to analyze the role of teacher support in shaping the form, quality, and sustainability of these interactions. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach, data were collected over six months through participant observation, in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and parents, and document analysis in three inclusive Islamic elementary schools in Kartasura, Indonesia. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that social interaction is highly context dependent, with more frequent and reciprocal engagement occurring during structured learning activities, while unstructured situations such as recess remain vulnerable to social exclusion. Teacher support emerged as a decisive factor in fostering inclusion through emotional reassurance, instructional scaffolding, and social mediation, particularly when grounded in Islamic values such as rahmah (compassion), cooperation, and moral responsibility. The study concludes that teachers function as key agents of social inclusion in Islamic elementary schools, and that culturally grounded, sustained teacher support is essential for strengthening peer acceptance and meaningful participation. These findings offer important implications for teacher preparation, inclusive pedagogy, and policy development in faith-based educational contexts.

Abstract

Cultural literacy plays a critical role in developing students’ sense of responsibility, tolerance, and national identity. In the context of 21st-century education, it is a key component of the Pancasila Student Profile, which guides character formation in Indonesian schools. While cultural literacy is often linked with language and social studies, this research explores its integration into science learning in elementary schools. The aim is to identify how cultural values, local wisdom, and scientific inquiry are harmonized to support holistic student development through the Independent Curriculum. This qualitative study employed a phenomenological design, focusing on two Sekolah Penggerak (Driving Schools): Elementary School Muhammadiyah 1 Ketelan and Elementary School Muhammadiyah Plus Malangjiwan. Participants included school principals, teachers, and students. Data collection was conducted through observations and in-depth interviews, using structured interview sheets. Data were analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured through source triangulation. The results revealed that cultural literacy was embedded in science learning through the contextualization of scientific concepts with local wisdom such as using traditional tools in experiments, exploring environmental stewardship rooted in local customs, and incorporating indigenous knowledge into ecology topics. Activities like science-based cultural exhibitions, traditional games with scientific principles, and the use of regional languages in science discussions strengthened student engagement and cultural identity. This study offers a novel integration of cultural literacy into science education, demonstrating how localized, culturally responsive teaching can enrich scientific understanding while reinforcing national character in line with the Pancasila Student Profile.

Abstract

Recent developments in educational media have neglected certain key subjects, especially Akidah Akhlak, which is an essential part of the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah curriculum. The conventional learning resources, primarily textbooks, face several challenges that lead to a decline in students' interest in reading and engaging with the material. To address this issue, a focused initiative has been undertaken to create educational media that incorporates stories rich in moral lessons, with the goal of creating a more dynamic and engaging learning atmosphere. The advanced technological skills and information literacy of Generation Z children make a strong argument for the integration of digital textbooks, specifically e-books, into their education. This research seeks to lead the way in developing innovative learning tools that encourage children to actively engage with digital books powered by information technology. Utilizing a research and development methodology, the main goal is to explore the effectiveness of interactive e-books as powerful educational tools for children. These e-books are crafted to present information in a way that is easily understood and retained by young learners, thus positively impacting their cognitive and emotional development. The impressive effectiveness of Akidah Akhlak e-books designed for 2nd-grade students in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah highlights their success in improving educational outcomes. By weaving moral values into engaging stories, these e-books not only enhance knowledge retention but also promote the growth of key character traits and ethical values. This highlights the powerful impact of interactive e-books as essential tools in contemporary education, meeting the varied learning needs and preferences of today's digitally inclined students.

Abstract

This study aims to identify various forms of cognitive impairment in elementary school students through a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of students, teachers, and parents in the school environment. The results of the study show that students' reading, writing, and arithmetic (calistung) impairments are present in mild symptoms of cognitive impairment such as dysgraphia (technical difficulty in writing) and mild dyscalculia (difficulty in understanding complex mathematical material). Students tend to find it easier to understand contextual material related to everyday life, while abstract material such as mathematics and foreign languages remain a challenge. The use of technology in learning has not become a common practice, with students preferring to search for information in books before turning to the internet. In addition, there were also indications of mild attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders in some students, which can affect the effectiveness of classroom learning. This study emphasizes the importance of learning strategies tailored to student needs, such as contextual methods, individualized approaches, and the use of technology as a supporting medium. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for schools in designing interventions that support optimal cognitive development in students and early detection of symptoms of cognitive disorders.

Abstract

Gamification is the application of game elements in non-game contexts, has become an innovative trend in education to improve students' motivation, engagement, and learning experience. This study aims to systematically examine the effect of gamification on the affective domain of elementary school students, which includes aspects such as interest, attitude, and emotional values in learning. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA method, this study analyzed relevant literature from leading databases. A total of 40 selected articles from leading journals, conferences, and literature were identified, involving empirical studies on the implementation of gamification in education. The results of the analysis showed that gamification consistently increased students' intrinsic motivation, emotional engagement, and positive attitudes towards learning. This study also found that the effect of gamification on the affective domain was greatly influenced by the implementation design, educational context, and teacher ability in utilizing technology. Thus, this study concludes that gamification has great potential to improve the affective aspect of learning at the elementary school level, but its success is highly dependent on proper design and implementation. This study recommends the development of a gamification model that is more inclusive and relevant to students' learning needs, as well as the integration of systematic evaluation elements to measure its long-term impact and make an important contribution to understanding the potential of gamification as a pedagogical approach that can improve the quality of learning, especially in the affective aspects of elementary school students.
