Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyse the implementation of walkthrough supervision as a collaborative supervision strategy in improving the quality of learning practices at junior and senior high school levels. Method: This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a multi-case study design. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with principals, teachers and supervisors, and analysis of supervision documents. The analysis process was conducted thematically to identify implementation patterns, challenges, and improvement strategies that emerged from the practice of walkthrough supervision in improving the quality of learning practices at the junior and senior high school levels at Yayasan Nurul Fikri Bina Generasi Bogor.  Results:  The results showed that walkthrough supervision in junior and senior high school of NFBS Bogor is implemented systematically through five stages by emphasising learning authenticity, continuous reflection, and teacher-supervisor collaboration. Obstacles such as time constraints, competency variations, supervisor inconsistency, and cultural factors are overcome through adaptive strategies, so that challenges actually strengthen collaboration. This supervision has an impact on improving teaching skills, classroom management, student engagement, as well as fostering a continuous reflective culture. This model has the potential to be adapted in other schools with adjustments to the vision, culture, teacher competencies and structural support.  Novelty: The innovation of this research lies in the transformation of walkthrough supervision into a collective reflective culture, the collaborative role of teachers-supervisors, and adaptive strategies to face obstacles. This model not only improves teacher competence and classroom culture, but also has the potential to be replicated with adjustments to the school context.

Abstract

This study explores the strategic synergy between the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Riyadh and Sekolah Indonesia Riyadh (SIR) in advancing Indonesia's educational diplomacy agenda. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis to examine the role of the Atase Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan (Atdikbud) and institutional cooperation in promoting soft power through education. Findings show that educational diplomacy in Riyadh functions not only as a platform for academic instruction but also as a tool for cultural transmission and national branding. Between 2022 and 2024, more than ten joint programs were implemented, including cultural festivals, teacher training workshops, and local BIPA classes attended by over 150 Saudi participants. Teachers and principals emphasized that Atdikbud acts as “a bridge that connects policy and practice,” facilitating curriculum adaptation, digital learning initiatives, and cross-cultural engagement. Challenges such as bureaucratic constraints, cultural sensitivity, and limited resources were addressed through adaptive strategies, including digitalizing school administration (SISILN) and inter-ministerial coordination. SIR serves as a cultural outpost, strengthening national identity among Indonesian diaspora youth while promoting intercultural understanding. The study highlights that educational diplomacy is most effective when it integrates governmental policy, institutional commitment, and community participation. This research contributes to diplomacy studies by providing empirical evidence of how education can serve as a measurable form of Indonesia’s soft power, especially in culturally and politically sensitive contexts like Saudi Arabia. Recommendations include developing evaluation frameworks, expanding international cooperation, and sustaining support from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance the impact and continuity of Indonesian Overseas Schools as instruments of educational diplomacy.

Abstract

As an educational institution catering to children of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who are characterized by a rich tapestry of cultural, tribal, racial, and religious backgrounds, alongside a spectrum of socio-economic challenges and legal uncertainties regarding their presence in the host nation, Sekolah Indonesia Kota Kinabalu (SIKK), Malaysia, underscores the critical necessity for inclusive educational practices. This study examines the implementation of multi-tiered inclusive learning management across elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels, focusing particularly on students with special needs. The research aims to evaluate planning, execution, and support mechanisms in fostering equitable educational opportunities. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Findings reveal that SIKK has successfully implemented inclusive practices at the elementary level, including differentiated curricula, ongoing teacher training, and additional learning resources. However, inclusive practices at the junior high and senior high school levels are less effective, largely due to resource limitations, particularly the lack of special education teachers, with only one currently available. Challenges include insufficient resources, inadequate technical support, and differing perceptions of inclusion among stakeholders. Despite these obstacles, SIKK demonstrates significant efforts in inclusive education, underscoring the need for comprehensive policies and sustained government support. This research offers a novel perspective on the management of inclusive education within a multicultural and resource-limited context, highlighting the significance of collaborative engagement among multiple stakeholders and the need for contextually informed strategies to ensure sustainable implementation within the framework of Indonesian schools abroad, which face markedly intricate challenges.

Abstract

Inclusive education is a global movement that emerged in response to the exclusion of learners who are viewed as different by the education system. Countries that hold the consensus to implement inclusive education have structured their legislation to ensure the implementation of inclusive education. However, the practice in schools may not live up to the rhetoric. The purpose of this study is to describe policy implementation in some developing countries. This research focuses on the implementation of inclusive education policies in developing countries. Developing countries are considered to be lacking in implementing inclusive education policies. In addition, developing countries often adopt policies from developed countries that are not in accordance with the characteristics of their countries. This research uses a literature study of journals related to the implementation of inclusive education in developing countries. The results show that the state that holds the consensus in the implementation of inclusive education has guaranteed the implementation of inclusive education in the constitution. The implementation of inclusive education experiences several obstacles related to accessibility, lack of accompanying teachers, poor acceptance by school community members and less than optimal funding. Constitutionally, the state has guaranteed the implementation of inclusive education, but in its implementation there are still several challenges that result in the achievement of the objectives of organizing inclusive education is not optimal. Therefore, the government needs to be consistent in implementing inclusive education policies, so that the achievement of inclusive education goals can be achieved.
