Abstract

The advancement of technology has accelerated the adoption of Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) in educational assessment due to its ability to dynamically adjust item difficulty levels, thereby producing more precise, efficient, and valid measurements compared to conventional tests. While Item Response Theory (IRT) serves as the primary psychometric foundation of CAT, traditional IRT implementation faces computational challenges because ability estimation requires lengthy iterative processes, resulting in reduced system responsiveness. To address this issue, Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Fuzzy Logic, offers a promising solution through rapid inference mechanisms and monotonic reasoning that can adaptively map students’ cognitive abilities to corresponding item difficulty levels. This study aims to develop a hybrid CAT system that integrates Fuzzy Logic for fast inference with IRT as a robust and valid psychometric framework in the context of science learning. The research employs a systematic literature review using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework, encompassing the stages of Identification, Screening, and Inclusion of relevant studies. The findings indicate that the integration of AI/ML with IRT in CAT consistently enhances assessment accuracy and efficiency. Algorithms such as Maximum Information (MI) and Expected a Posteriori (EAP) effectively reduce test length without compromising reliability, while Fast Adaptive Cognitive Diagnosis (FACD) improves early-stage ability prediction. Furthermore, Fuzzy Logic demonstrates strong effectiveness in selecting adaptive test items aligned with students’ ability levels. The study concludes that developing CAT systems based on AI and IRT yields adaptive, personalized, efficient, and diagnostic evaluation mechanisms that support personalized science learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore ethnophysical concepts embedded in Borobudur Temple and to develop a contextual physics enrichment book for senior high school students. Indonesia possesses a rich cultural heritage with strong potential for contextualized science education, and Borobudur Temple—an architectural masterpiece that embodies various physics principles—offers a unique opportunity to design culturally relevant learning resources. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the AM3PU3 model and a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 74 students from SMA Negeri 1 Tengaran. Data were collected through expert validation, student questionnaires, and pretest–posttest scores, and analyzed using the N-Gain test. The findings indicate that mechanical concepts grounded in ethnophysics are present in the temple’s structure and can support culturally based physics instruction. The developed book received expert validation scores of 3.40 for content, 3.83 for language, and 3.63 for presentation (on a 1–4 scale). Student responses were also high, with scores of 4.00 for readability, 3.98 for effectiveness, and 3.90 for design (on a 1–5 Likert scale). The N-Gain result of 0.30 indicated a moderate improvement. These findings suggest that integrating ethnophysics may serve as a culturally responsive strategy to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and engagement in science education.

Abstract

There are three main elements of activities assessed in assigning credit points to teachers. First is education, second is learning and third is continuous professional development. Education and learning are activities that are usually carried out by a teacher. However, not many teachers are still doing sustainable professional development. One of them is in scientific publications. For this reason, a service was carried out regarding training in writing scientific papers to increase the acquisition of credit scores for Banjarnegara Regency MGMP Science teachers. The training methods applied include planning, implementing training and mentoring and monitoring. Based on the service carried out, it was found that the length of time teaching did not show a positive relationship with writing ability and quantity of publications. Through this service, teachers already have the motivation to start writing even though there have been no published results from this service activity.
