Abstract

Mothers play a big role in every aspect of their children’s lives. During learning from home (LfH) period, children's negative behavior can also change and is influenced by maternal-efficacy, maternal burden, and parenting practices. The purpose of this study was to analyze differences in maternal burden and parenting practices before and during LfH and to analyze the effect of mothers' burden on learning from home, maternal-efficacy, and parenting practices on the negative behavior of children aged 5-6 years. This study used a cross-sectional and retrospective study design. This research was conducted in three kindergartens with an A accreditation status in Jagakarsa Village, Jagakarsa District, South Jakarta City, DKI Jakarta Province. The study involved 100 working mothers who were selected using non-probability sampling with a voluntary sampling technique. The results of the influence test showed that the mother's burden during LfH period had a significant negative effect on the mother's maternal efficacy, while the mother's maternal efficacy had a significant positive effect on negative parenting practices and negative child behavior. Based on the research results, the maternal-efficacy of parents was assumed to be not strong enough to prevent negative parenting practices carried out by parents during the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, negative parenting practices by mothers had a significant positive effect on children's negative behavior.

Abstract

The strength of character can be manifested through the interactions of parents, especially fathers, in the parenting process. This study aimed to analyze the influence of student characteristics, family characteristics, and the role of fathers' parenting on character strength. This study used an explanatory design involving 289 first-year students living with complete parents. Sampling was taken by voluntary sampling. Data were obtained by self-reporting through online questionnaires and analyzed by multiple linear regression using SPSS. The findings show that there are nine indicators of paternal parenting such as positive involvement, positive emotional response, negative involvement, moral roles, gender roles, provider roles, androgynous roles, father's presence, and father's responsibility. In addition, there are three indicators of the strength of characters, such as moral knowledge, moral feelings, and moral action, which contain six virtues in the form of wisdom, justice, humanity, determination, self-control, and spirituality. The study's results prove that the role of a father's parenting significantly positively affects character strength. Overall, the strength of student character cannot be separated from the role of family care, especially for fathers.

Abstract

Violence is a case that teenagers often experience, and violence cases in Indonesia are increasing every year. This study aims to analyze how adolescent and family characteristics and parenting styles influence sexual violence in adolescents. The research design used a cross-sectional study, followed by 45 young women who had experienced sexual violence in several provinces in Indonesia. The data collection technique used voluntary sampling using google-form, distributed through social media. This study uses the Parental Acceptance Rejection (PARQ) and Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). The results showed that adolescents who experienced violence were in the age range of 13 to 18 years. Teenage fathers primarily work as labourers, and mothers do not work/IRT. Parental marital status in general, living in their own home and residing in rural areas. The style of acceptance, aggression, neglect, and rejection of parents is low. However, sexual violence against adolescents is severe, with the most frequent perpetrators of violence perpetrated by their peers. The results showed that parents whose status was married had a rejection style of parenting, and teenagers who did not have their bedroom felt more cared for. Adolescents who live with nuclear families and receive an accepting parenting style from their parents are less likely to experience sexual violence. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has various impacts on life, one of which causes stress in adolescents. This study aims to analyze the influence of family climate and adolescent perceptions of stress levels during the pandemic. This study used a cross-sectional study design. The sampling in this study used a non-probability sampling method with a voluntary sampling technique through the distribution of bold questionnaires. The research sample was 113 junior high and high school students aged 13-18 in the Greater Jakarta area (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi). Based on the study results, the category of almost all teenagers has a family climate in the medium. Almost approaching adolescents, adolescents' perceptions and stress levels during the pandemic are included in the low category. There was no significant difference between adolescents' perceptions before and during the pandemic, while adolescents' stress level was significantly higher than before the pandemic. The study's results showed that family climate was negatively related to adolescent stress levels during the pandemic. On the other hand, adolescent perceptions during the pandemic were significantly positively related to the stress level of adolescents during the pandemic. Factors that significantly negatively affect adolescent stress levels during the pandemic are family size and family climate (on the dimensions of relationships in the family and family violence). Adolescent perceptions during the pandemic have a positive effect on adolescent stress levels during the pandemic.

Abstract

Disciplinary practices are instilled through routine activities as an effort to build adolescent habits, educated to behave well, and respect others. Disciplinary character can be applied well as a result of the formation of an optimal self-concept that is able to have a positive influence on discipline. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of family and school discipline practices, as well as self-concept on the disciplinary character of junior high school students. This study used a cross-sectional study design and purposive sampling technique with a total of 150 respondents who were students from public junior high schools, private junior high schools, and private religious-based junior high schools living at home with parents/other family members. The results of this study found that family discipline practices were in the high category, school discipline practices and discipline character were in the medium category, while self-concept was in the low category. The result of the T-test shows that state school students have a better disciplinary character than private and religious-based school students. PLS analysis shows that family and school discipline practices have a direct effect on self-concept and no direct effect on discipline character. The results of path analysis show that there is a significant influence of family and school discipline practices through self-concept on the disciplinary character of junior high school students.

Abstract

The prevalence of taboo language among adolescents, both at home and in school settings, is undeniable. Often, adolescents resort to using taboo words not only in moments of anger but also in non-angry contexts. This study endeavors to elucidate the patterns of taboo language usage among adolescents residing in the coastal area of Cirebon, taking into account the influence of parental education. Conducted at SMAN 1 Suranenggala and SMKN 1 Gunungjati, North Cirebon, the research involved a total sample of 195 respondents selected through cluster random sampling techniques. Findings indicate that a majority of adolescent boys and girls employ Javanese language at home, with taboo language predominantly falling within the low category of usage. Moreover, male adolescents exhibit a higher propensity for taboo language usage compared to their female counterparts, particularly in interactions with friends. Interestingly, the study discerns no significant correlation between the use of taboo language and parental education levels. Notably, taboo language predominantly revolves around animal-related terms, including dogs and their synonyms, pigs, and monkeys. Ultimately, the research underscores that the utilization of taboo language is contingent upon various factors such as situational contexts, environments, and conversational partners.
