Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between critical reading interest and Learning Management System (LMS) learning using the Critical Reading Intention Scale (CRIS) instrument and its effect on student learning outcomes. Along with technological development in education, LMS has become an increasingly used platform for learning, but its relationship to students' critical reading interests has not been widely explored. The data used in this study were taken from various related journals, using the Critical Reading Intention Scale (CRIS) instrument to measure students' critical reading interest and questionnaires to identify LMS usage patterns and test questions to determine student learning outcomes. Through descriptive and quantitative descriptive analysis, the study results showed a significant positive relationship between students' critical reading interest and LMS learning using the Critical Reading Intention Scale (CRIS) instrument. After being given test questions, it was found that students with high reading interest got high learning outcomes and vice versa; students with low reading interest got low learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of research trends in learning and assessment practices in Indonesia. A total of 274 documents were initially collected, from which 100 articles that met the predetermined criteria were selected for in-depth analysis. The data reveals a distribution of research across 34 provinces, with 20 provinces being represented in the final sample. The findings indicate a predominant focus on media-based approaches in reading instruction, reflecting a growing interest in integrating media into learning strategies. In terms of assessment, the use of combined or hybrid assessment methods emerges as the most common practice, suggesting an effort to capture a more holistic understanding of student performance. Despite these developments, the overall impact of the research remains limited, as most studies are still conducted on a local scale and have not significantly influenced national educational policy or practice. This highlights the need for broader dissemination and application of research findings to enhance their relevance and utility at the national level. Strengthening the connection between educational research and practice is essential for advancing the quality of learning and assessment in Indonesia.

Abstract

The development of critical reading and critical thinking skills is essential in teacher education, particularly for pre-service elementary school teachers who are expected to evaluate information critically and guide students in higher-order literacy practices. The increasing use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) in higher education provides opportunities to support students’ engagement with academic texts. However, limited research has examined how LMS engagement relates to students’ intention to participate in critical reading activities within teacher education contexts. The present study examines the relationship between LMS engagement and pre-service (PPG) students’ intention to engage in critical reading, as measured by the Critical Reading Intention Scale (CRIS), based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). A quantitative survey design was employed involving 109 pre-service teacher students from three universities in Indonesia. Data were collected via an online questionnaire that measured LMS usability and critical reading intention. The data were analyzed using non-parametric statistical analysis. The results indicate a statistically significant relationship between LMS engagement and students’ critical reading intention (p < 0.05). These findings elucidate that LMS-supported learning environments may be associated with students’ attitudes, perceived norms, and perceived control regarding critical reading activities. The study highlights the potential role of LMS-based instructional design in supporting critical reading engagement in pre-service teacher education.
