Abstract

This study explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in reinforcing legal certainty for Muslims in determining the beginning of Ramadan and Syawal through the optimization of traditional methods—Hisab (astronomical calculations) and Rukyat (moon sighting). Employing a qualitative approach, this research analyzes scholarly literature, case studies, and existing technological models to evaluate how AI can enhance precision, objectivity, and legitimacy in lunar calendar determinations. The findings reveal that AI-based tools, including machine learning algorithms and image recognition systems, not only improve the accuracy of Hisab but also automate Rukyat by processing real-time meteorological and astronomical data. By integrating AI into these methods, the study proposes a hybrid model that supports religious observance with scientifically validated outcomes, ultimately contributing to greater legal certainty and unity among Muslim communities. This research highlights AI's potential to bridge traditional Islamic jurisprudence and technological innovation in support of timely and consistent religious practices.

Abstract

Thermal comfort plays a vital role in the health, productivity, and well-being of urban communities and serves as a critical indicator in sustainable urban planning. This study aims to analyze thermal comfort levels in dense residential areas and planned residential zones within the Unaaha urban area, using satellite data from two specific years, 2014 and 2024, selected to capture a decade of urban change. The methodology employs Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS imagery complemented by shapefile data of planned residential areas in Unaaha District, providing spatial context for detailed analysis. The spatial resolution and quality of the satellite imagery ensure reliable detection of land surface temperature and vegetation changes. A series of index transformations, including Urban Index (UI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI), Land Surface Temperature (LST), Modified Temperature Humidity Index (MTHI), and Thermal Index (TI), were applied to assess thermal comfort dynamics. Results indicate significant changes in thermal comfort between 2014 and 2024, with a shift in dominant categories from “uncomfortable” (60.5%) in 2014 to “less comfortable” (67.71%) in 2024 within dense residential areas. Evaluation of the 2024 planned residential zones reveals a predominance of “less comfortable” (45.34%) and “uncomfortable” (27.81%) classes. These findings suggest that current residential planning has not adequately balanced green open spaces and built-up areas, thereby limiting the natural cooling effects. This outcome aligns with previous studies emphasizing the critical role of green infrastructure in mitigating urban heat, underscoring the need for integrative planning approaches that prioritize thermal comfort in urban development.

Abstract

EMPOWERMENT OF YOUNG MUSLIMS THROUGH THE PROVISION OF PROGRAMATIC DA'WAH MATERIAL BASED ON RATIONAL ISLAMIC THEOLOGY. Community empowerment mostly uses economic, legal, gender equality, and environmental approaches to build community awareness so that they dare to rise up and change the circumstances that hinder their development, progress, and prosperity. On the other hand, the potential of Islamic teachings as a guide to life can be used as an approach that is no less important than other empowerment approaches. Islamic teachings, which are teachings for community development, can serve as a new approach to community empowerment. On the other hand, the potential of the young Muslim generation as the successors of the development of the ummah and the nation must be the focus of efforts to regenerate a nation. This article offers an approach to empowering the young generation (gen Z) of Muslims who emphasize awareness by providing programmatic da'wah materials based on Rational Islamic theology that do not yet exist or have not been developed. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods based on related references. The study results show that rational Islamic theology can be an approach in empowering the community, especially the young generation of Islam. The approach of providing programmatic da'wah materials based on rational Islamic theology that emphasizes aspects of divine, moral and social awareness that can encourage individual or community awareness to understand the purpose, direction and meaning of life so that they can improve themselves towards a better direction and also have social roles in society.
