Abstract

This study analyzes the global development and research trends of bi-model media in science education using a bibliometric approach. Data from the Scopus database were processed with Biblioshiny and VOSviewer to identify the conceptual structure, thematic clusters, and emerging directions. The results show that e-learning, virtual reality, and students are dominant themes driving a shift toward interactive and learner-centered education, while artificial intelligence, machine learning, and social media form the foundation for developing data-driven adaptive learning systems. The thematic and keyword network analyses indicate a growing transition toward a hybrid framework that integrates technology, pedagogy, and human experience. The findings highlight the importance of aligning pedagogical design with intelligent technological support to create meaningful, adaptive, and context-based learning experiences. Although limited to a single bibliographic source, this study contributessignificantly to mapping the research landscape of bi-model media and offers insights for future studies on AI-based integration, learning analytics, and equitable access to digital education in the 21st century. Unlike previous bibliometric studies that broadly examine digital or technology-enhanced learning, this work uniquely foregrounds the emerging concept of bi-model media, providing a sharper lens to understand how dual-mode representations shape scientific understanding and instructional innovation.

Abstract

Critical thinking is a fundamental competency emphasized within the Merdeka Curriculum, vital for enabling students to analyze scientific phenomena and construct reasoned explanations. This study aimed to diagnose the critical thinking skills of seventh-grade junior high school students regarding temperature and heat material using a two-tier diagnostic test. Employing a descriptive survey method, the research involved 88 students from a public junior high school in Cianjur. An instrument comprising 18 two-tier test items was developed based on Facione’s critical thinking indicators: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The results indicated varied competency levels across the indicators. Students demonstrated moderate performance in interpretation (53.0), analysis (51.5), and evaluation (54.5). In contrast, considerably lower scores were observed in inference (41.3), explanation (38.6), and particularly self-regulation (26.5), revealing significant challenges in drawing logical conclusions, providing coherent scientific justifications, and monitoring their own reasoning processes. These findings align with existing literature indicating that higher-order thinking skills develop gradually and require explicit instructional support. The study confirms the effectiveness of the two-tier test as a diagnostic tool for uncovering both conceptual understanding and cognitive reasoning patterns, providing an empirical profile to guide the design of differentiated, inquiry-based learning strategies in line with the formative assessment goals of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of the KoPI Lokal Islami (KLI) learning model, gender, and their interaction on 21st-century skills. This study used an experimental method through a factorial design. The study involved 174 students from Islamic elementary schools, divided into three treatment groups: 58 students in the KLI model, 58 in the cooperative learning (CL) model, and 58 in the direct instruction (DI) model. Among the participants, 88 were male, and 86 were female. Data were collected through tests, observation sheets, and questionnaires, all of which were validated by experts. Data analysis was conducted using a two-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey HSD and LSD tests, after normality and homogeneity tests were performed. The results showed that the KLI model significantly improved 21st-century skills (p=0.000) by creating a more contextual and meaningful learning experience. Significant differences were also found between male and female learners (p=0.039), with females, in general, being more focused on developing 21st-century skills at primary school age. The interaction between model and gender is not significant (p=0.799), indicating that these two factors influence 21st-century skills independently. This research makes an essential contribution to the design of learning models that are more relevant to current demands and can serve as a basis for educational policy recommendations in Islamic primary schools.

Abstract

Technological developments in education demand innovation in learning media to overcome the limitations of laboratory facilities and conventional methods, especially in elementary science education. Prospective elementary school teachers need to have strong scientific literacy to support meaningful learning. This study aims to develop a Virtual Science Laboratory (VSL) as a flexible, interactive, technology-based medium to improve students' Scientific Literacy Skills (SLA). The approach used is Research and Development (R&D) with the model Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE). Data were collected from 120 prospective elementary school teachers in Jakarta, Indonesia, aged 21–23 years. SSC was measured through a science literacy test (pretest-posttest) and analyzed with Normalized gain (N-Gain). The results showed that VSL significantly improved scientific literacy, with an average increase of 59.4% (moderate effect size). Each aspect of SLA increased: Explanation of Scientific Phenomena (61%), Interpretation of Data & Evidence (77%), Evaluation & Experimental Design (42%), Use of Scientific Evidence (58%), and Awareness of Scientific Applications (59%). These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of VSL as an innovative solution for technology-based science learning, particularly in contexts with limited physical lab space. VSL is recommended for integration into science education curricula as a 21st-century learning approach to support the professional competency of prospective teachers. Keywords: virtual laboratory, science education, science literacy, student ability, learning innovation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the validity and reliability of a critical thinking skills instrument on the topic of wave-particle dualism using the Rasch model. Data collection was carried out by administering a critical thinking skills test to students enrolled in a modern physics course. A total of 36 students from a university in West Nusa Tenggara participated. Data analysis was performed using the Rasch model through the Winsteps 4.6.1 software. The results indicated that the instrument is valid and reliable. The instrument's validity was tested by examining the data's fit to the Rasch model through infit and outfit MNSQ values and ZSTD, all of which were within the expected acceptance range. Construct validity was analysed through standardized residual variance, showing that the Rasch model can explain most of the variance in the data. Similarly, the instrument's reliability showed that the item reliability was in the very good category (0.93) and the person reliability was in the moderate category (0.68), with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.86, indicating very good internal reliability. These findings confirm that the Rasch model is effective in assessing and improving the quality of critical thinking skills evaluation instruments in the context of modern physics education.

Abstract

A professional teacher is a teacher who masters professional knowledge and skills. Increasing their professionalism is needed to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This research attempts to analyze the effectiveness of teacher training programs in environmental education that focus on identifying the challenges and strategy for the future training program. The research method was triangulation, combining quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including document analysis, questionnaire, and interview results. Sixty-five teachers with experience in environmental education were surveyed, and seven were interviewed. The results show that the sustainability context (environmental, economic, and sociocultural dimensions) needs to be embedded into environmental education teacher training. All training materials are currently oriented toward the environmental context. The provided training focuses on imparting knowledge on environmental education and has not yet expanded to include raising awareness or fostering sustainable action. As a result, future teacher programs must emphasize not only knowledge, but also awareness and action to attain sustainability. Schools and other relevant parties must fully support the rollout of the teacher-training initiative.

Abstract

This study aims to answer research questions about: (a) Does the number of training sessions attended affect the modification skills of science teachers? and (b) Do additional activities affect the modification skills of science teachers? The study uses a qualitative method with a sequential explanatory approach using questionnaires and interviews as instruments. The subjects of this research are 12 elementary and junior high school science teachers who are members of subject teachers' deliberation groups. The results show that the teachers' ability to modify learning designs involving students is influenced by the number of training sessions and additional activities. The data indicates that the more teachers attend training sessions, the better they are at modifying learning materials involving students, meaning that training has a positive effect on improving the modification skills of science teachers. Conversely, the more additional activities teachers engage in, the lower their ability to modify learning materials involving students, indicating that excessive additional activities have a negative impact on the modification skills of science teachers.
