Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Collaborative E-learning-Based Learning (KABEL) to remedy student misconceptions for heat in high schools in East Java during merdeka belajar. The study used a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pre-test post-test design. The study includes a sample of 290 10th-grade students who were randomly chosen from different high schools in East Java. The data collection instrument consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, each with 3 alternative answers and open-ended reasons. The average percentage of student misconceptions was 94.67% before and 39.33% after remediation. The Mc Nemar test showed a significant improvement in student conceptual understanding after remediation, as evidenced by a chi-square value (X2) of 11.16, which exceeded the critical chi-square value (X2table) of 3.84 for a degree of freedom (df) of 1 and a significance level (α) of 5%. The obtained proportion value of 0.56 shows a moderate effectiveness of the direct instruction model with animation media in addressing student misconceptions.

Abstract

Early renewable energy education has become increasingly vital since the urgency of sustainability in the energy sector continues to grow. This study provided a comparative analysis of students’ multiliteracy enhancement between urban and rural schools in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Project-Based Learning (STEM-PjBL) setting. A quasi-experimental design was employed involving 120 students from one urban and one rural secondary school, selected using stratified random sampling. Multiliteracy was measured using pre- and post-tests and analyzed through normalized gain (N-gain) scores. Results indicated that both schools demonstrated moderate improvement in multiliteracy after the intervention. However, the urban school achieved relatively stronger performance compared with the rural school.  It is found that urban students were associated with greater access to digital teaching and learning facilities. Conversely, rural students benefited from rich local knowledge and community practices related to natural resource management, which supported contextual understanding of renewable energy concepts. Future research is recommended to integrate sustainability education at earlier educational stages and further embed renewable energy applications within the formal curriculum to promote sustained multiliteracy development.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of an assessment instrument measuring students’ Creative Problem Solving (CPS) skills in the context of alternative energy using the Rasch Model. CPS is a crucial competency in 21st-century physics learning; however, students’ CPS abilities are often found to be relatively low, partly due to the limited availability of valid and reliable assessment instruments. This research employed a descriptive quantitative design involving 35 eleventh-grade students from a private senior high school in Bandung. The instrument consisted of 18 open-ended items analyzed using Ministep software based on the Rasch Model. The results indicated that the instrument satisfied the unidimensionality assumption, with a raw variance explained value of 51.2% and an unexplained variance in the first contrast of 8.9%, indicating that the instrument consistently measures a single CPS construct. All items demons trated good model fit and high reliability, as reflected by a person reliability of 0.84, item reliability of 0.81, and Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.93, suggesting that the instrument produces stable and reliable measurements. Furthermore, the distribution of item difficulty ranged from very easy to highly difficult, indicating that the instrument can effectively differentiate students’ abilities across various proficiency levels. These findings confirm that the instrument is valid, reliable, and capable of providing more objective measurements of students’ CPS skills. This study contributes to addressing the limitations of CPS assessment tools by providing a systematically validated instrument based on the Rasch Model, particularly in the context of alternative energy learning.
