Abstract

This research examines the role of phonology in the process of second language acquisition. Phonology, as a branch of linguistics that studies the sound system of a language, has a significant impact on a learner's ability to master the target language. This study aims to analyze how the differences in the phonological system between the mother tongue and the second language affect the ability of learners to perceive and produce language sounds. The methods used include a comprehensive literature review and case studies of English as a second language learners from various mother tongue backgrounds. The research results show that phonological transfer from the mother tongue to the second language can cause difficulties in pronunciation and comprehension. However, good phonological awareness and appropriate training can help overcome these obstacles. These findings have important implications for second language teaching, emphasizing the importance of focusing on phonological aspects in curriculum and teaching methods. Further research is needed to develop effective strategies for overcoming phonological challenges in second language acquisition.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how loanwords from other languages in Indonesian change their phonemes. Changes in vowel and consonant phonemes indicate these changes. The research method combines literature review techniques and qualitative descriptive methods. The data collected are taken from various literature sources and then grouped according to certain criteria. The results showed that language sounds are based on two premises: they usually form symmetrical patterns and the sounds of language usually interact with each other. Phonology also has hypotheses, which serve as the basis of its analysis in the following way, in addition to these two premises. When phonetically similar sounds contrast in minimal pairs, it is first necessary to treat them as different phonemes.

Abstract

The study addresses vowel phonology in English with a focus on basic concepts, phonemic analysis, change, and phonological rules. Vowel phonology involves the study of vowel sounds in language and the way they are organized and grouped in the language system. Vowel phonemic analysis identifies an inventory of vowel phonemes in English and classifies them based on differences in word meaning. The distribution of vowel phonemics and allophonies describes the mapping of vowel phonemes in a particular phonological context. Vowel phonological changes occur over time and are influenced by factors such as phonetic influences, phonological environment, and contact with other languages. The study also highlights examples of phonological changes in vowels in English, including diphthongs to monophhongs and shifts in vowel sound height. Vowel phonological rules govern the pronunciation of vowel sounds in English, including allophony rules and phonological environmental influences. An understanding of vowel phonology in English has important implications in linguistic analysis and research on the history and change of language. Keywords:, mooflog and vocal

Abstract

This research explores the importance of studying English minimal pairs of vowels and their impact on language learners' pronunciation skills. The discussion highlights the significance of differentiating vowel sounds through the analysis of minimal pairs, which consist of words sharing consonant sounds but differing in vowel articulation. By focusing on specific minimal pairs such as [iː] / [ɪ], [æ] / [ʌ], [ɑ:] / [ɔ], [ɛ], and [ɒ], learners can refine their ability to recognize and produce the distinct vowel sounds accurately. Mastering these minimal pairs enhances phonemic awareness, enabling learners to differentiate between similar vowel sounds, thereby improving overall pronunciation accuracy. Furthermore, the study of minimal pairs contributes to word differentiation, listening skills, and spelling and reading proficiency. It empowers learners to grasp the subtle nuances in vowel pronunciation, thereby enhancing their ability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English. In conclusion, a comprehensive understanding and application of English minimal pairs of vowels are vital for language learners striving to achieve optimal pronunciation proficiency. Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine the effectiveness of IPA, or phonetic transcriptions, in Tophonetics application based on phonetic transcriptions. Descriptive qualitative research methodologies are employed. Seven students were used as the sample in this study to examine phonetic transcriptions using phonetic tools and gauge participants’ perceptions. In this study, the author employs interviews as a tool to gather data. This study’s conclusion is that students use this tophonetic application to look up phonetic transcriptions. According to the study’s findings, students can readily complete IPA, or phonetic transcriptions in English, using the Tophonetics application rather than utilizing an open dictionary. They can also more easily learn how to utilize the program, which will help them pronounce words more clearly.

Abstract

This article explores the field of computational approaches to phonology, with a particular focus on recent increases in popularity and speech synthesis. Phonology, as a department of linguistics, deals with the observation of sounds and their work in language. Recent improvements in this area have resulted in major improvements in accuracy and efficiency, towards the integration of deep recognition strategies together with recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). the models have tested the ability to capture complex phonetic patterns and decorate the overall performance of computerized speech reputation structures. These advances have seen packages in multiple domains, such as virtual assistants, text-to-speech structures, and language acquisition tools. This article looks at the main computational procedures used in phonology, along with characteristic-based representations, rule-based modes, and statistical methods. It explores demanding situations related to phonological evaluation, which include phoneme segmentation, pronunciation variants, and language-specific problems. In addition, this paper discusses mixing phonological knowledge with device learning strategies, which enables the development of robust and correct speech recognition and synthesis systems. As usual, this research represents remarkable advances from computational methods to phonology, particularly in the geographical area of speech recognition and synthesis. the combination of technology and linguistic insights has increased the accuracy, naturalness, and efficiency in processing spoken language. These enhancements open up new opportunities to enhance human-pc interaction, language recognition, and many other packages that rely on speech-based technologies.
