Abstract

The learning process of physics needed a deep analysis. Students with special needs, especially those who were deaf and lack in hearing ability, had some problems in Physics learning including in Sound concept. Availability of learning media in Physics learning for those deaf students was still in minimum number. There were deaf students who had hearing ability although it was less. The less hearing ability could still be employed to optimize the learning proces. This study aimed to develop fotonovela as a product of learning media with audio help for deaf students, and to determine the suitability and effectiveness of it. Result of the study concluded that the fotonovela with audio help  was very suitably and effectively applied in the learning for deaf students.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are develope a scientific literacy evaluation instrument, determine the validity, reliability and describe characteristic of scientific literacy assessment instrument and the profile of students' scientific literacy abilities. The research design uses R & D (Research and Development) with a sampling technique used simple random sampling. The subject of this research was conducted in class VII of SMP & MTs in Brebes. The results showed that the scientific literacy evaluation instrument was stated fulfill the content validity with very valid category, equability validity with high category and was stated reliable with a reliability value of 0.89 in the first product trials and 0.92 in the last product trial. The characteristics of this scientific literacy evaluation instrument have proportion levels of difficulty that are proportional. The content of the science literacy category has a proportion of 27% for science as a body of knowledge, a way of investigating, a way of thingking, and 19% for interaction between science, environment, technology, and society. The profile of students scientific literacy show the mastery of science literacy is still low that is below 60%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in creativity and students problem solving abilities after applying the ?Treffinger? learning model. This type of research is quantitative research. The design of this study was a quasi-experiment with non-equivalent control group design. The research instruments in the form of creativity test and problem solving abilities test is an essay question. The study population was all students of class X MIPA SMA Negeri 2 Kudus in 2017/2018 Academic Year. The sampling technique was purposive sampling.  The experimental class treated with ?Treffinger? learning model and control class with conventional learning (lecture). The analysis technique uses gain test, t test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and simple linear regression. The results showed an increase in creativity and problem-solving ability of the experimental class was greater than the control class. Student creativity has a positive effect on their problem solving ability by 46.1%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of critical thinking skills, the profile of scientific literacy, and determine the impact of critical thinking dexterity towards science literacy of junior high school student. The marking indicator of critical thinking includes argument analysis; deduction, considering deduction results; induction and considering induction result; identify terms and considering some terms. Science literacy ability includes 4 categories as follow: science as a cornerstone; science as thinking method; science as a way to investigate; also, science interaction, environment, technology and society. The method used in this study are correlational and data analysis technique using descriptive precentage and simple regression. Based on the result of simple regression analysis, critical thinking and science literacy have a significant and positive impact. The result of the analysis shows that students? critical thinking dexterity is still lacking, their science literacy?s ability also lacking.

Abstract

Higher Order Thinking (HOT) ability and environmental attitudes was needed in facing challenges, demands, and the rapid development in the 21st century. Conditioning students in learning requires good teaching materials in accordance with students? need and global demans, current or future. One of the teaching materials needed was content-based on scientific literacy and conservation. The purpose of this study was (1) to analyze the improvement of HOT ability and environmental attitude of students through the implementation of teaching materials based on scientific and conservation literacy. (2) to analyze the differences of improving students? Higher Order Thinking Ability and environmental attitudes using scientific-based literacy and conservation as the teaching materials and not using it. This research was an experimental study conducted by pretest-posttest and group control design. The reseach subject was 30 students in grade VIIC (experimental group) and 30 students in VIIA grade (control group) in SMP N 1 Kaliwiro. We used written test to gather students? HOT ability improvement, and Likert scales for students? environmental attitude data.  The data analysis technique used was using the N-gain test and t-test. The results of the study obtained that N-gain value of the experimental group on the aspect of Higher Order Thinking ability 0.70, the control group 0.40 which has the results of the t-test -7.83. The results of the environmental attitudes obtained the N-gain value of the experimental group 0.50 and the control group 0.18 which has the results of the t-test -7.19. The results showed that teaching materials based on scientific literacy and conservation can be used to improve Students? higher order thinking ability and environmental attitude.

Abstract

One of the 21st century life skills that needs to be developed in the education process is critical thinking skills. The importance of being trained in critical thinking skills in learning science is motivated by the results of the 2015 PISA test. critical thinking as 'the correct way of assessing statements' and 'reasonable reflective thinking focused on deciding what to believe or do'. In this study, indicators of critical thinking skills measured are providing simple explanations, building basic skills, providing further explanations, and concluding. One potential learning approach to help students become actively involved in learning activities and be able to improve critical thinking skills is the STEM approach. The purpose of this research is to develop a STEM approach digital book with certain characteristics, determine its validity, its practicality, and its effectiveness of the product towards improving students' critical thinking skills. This study uses a development plan from Sugiyono. The subjects of this research are the 8th graders of SMPN 26 Semarang, academic year 2019/2020. The sample as an experimental class (the product is applied in the learning process) is VIII B class, and the control class (used ordinary textbooks) is VIII D class. Data analysis techniques used in this study include descriptive data analysis related to the validity and practicality of the product, while to find out the effectiveness of the product used a normalized N-gain test and a two-sample t-test. Results show that (1) the characteristics of the digital book contained all components of the STEM approach which included aspects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (2) the developed digital book has valid criteria regarding to the material, media and language aspects (3) digital book developed effectively to improve students' critical thinking skills, and (4) the practicality of using digital book is considered very good by students and teachers).

Abstract

This research aims to describe the ability of mathematics literacy in terms of students' metacognition in learning realistic synectics assisted by schoology. The subjects chosen by random sampling in this study were 32 students of class VII A of SMP Negeri 4 Adiwerna in the 2018/2019 academic year. Data analysis using Mix Method with Quasi Experimental Design. The results showed that with the learning of realistic synectics assisted by schoology, students’ mathematical literacy skills in terms of metacognition is varied. Based on 7 students with high metacognition, obtained 6 students with high mathematical literacy skills and 1 student with moderate mathematical literacy abilities. Of the 21 students with moderate metacognition obtained 5 students with high mathematical literacy skills, 12 students with moderate mathematical literacy abilities and 4 students with low mathematical literacy abilities. Of the 4 students with low metacognition all of them had low mathematical literacy skills as well.

Abstract

This study aimed to enhance students' creativity in developing the kinds of experiments and understanding of materials physics, especially wave, with application of the modified approach to free inquiry in the department of Physics, State UNNES. The instrument used a questionnaire to measure creativity, observation sheet to measure the ability psikhomotorik and sheets test to measure the understanding of matter waves. Results were analyzed using a Likert scale questionnaire. Normalized gain formula is used to test the effectiveness of modified free inquiry approach in enhancing students' creativity and understanding of the matter wave. The results showed that the application of modified free inquiry approach that gives freedom to the students to develop creativity, to (1) improve the ability psikhomotorik students, (2) type of experiment, developed into more varied, (3) enhance student creativity, and (4) increase cognitive abilities of students. Abstract

This study aims to determine the problem solving ability of  the 9th grade students of  Banyubiru 1 and 2 Junior High School in 2019/2020 in the material of wave, and sound. This is a survey research with descriptive qualitative analysis. The instrument used was an integrated test with Polya's model problem solving steps and interview guidelines. Test questions tested consists of 2 problem descriptions. The result shows that the ability of the students  problem solving ability was still at the low level which is at 68.97%. Whereas,  90.32% of students' score are still below the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) in science subject. Students are able to achieve 2 indicators of Polya model problem solving namely understanding the problem and making plans.  However, students have not yet been able to achieve the other 2 indicators, namely  implementing the plan and checking again. The students found the difficulties in interpreting the Problem-type questions. They got difficult in understanding the intentions of the problem so that there is an error in compiling a strategy that results in students experiencing confusion in writing each answer. So training is needed in working on problem solving problems.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are describe the characteristics, determine the validity, to test the practicality of worksheet based on scientific literacy, and to test the effectiveness of the product in improving student?s scientific literacy capability. The type of this research is Research and Development (R&D) that produces worksheet based on scientific literacy on optical tools topics. The research was done at SMP Rembang, Purbalingga. The characteristics of  the worksheet which is developed are using four scientific literacy aspects that can be found in the worksheet main feature, that are ?Ayo Belajar?, ?Mencoba Yuk?, ?Ayo Berpikir Ilmiah?, and ?Sains dalam Kehidupan?. The research findings shows that the validity test?s result of the worksheet is in valid category with the result of 84.95%. The result of  practicality of the worksheet based on scientific literacy is in the practical category with the result of 82.60%. The improvement of scientific literacy capability in cognitive aspect showed that the experimental class was 0.69 and the control class was 0.47. The result showed that affective and psychomotoric learning in the experimental class is higer than the control group. Based on the result, it is concluded that the worksheet based on scientific literacy is valid, practical, and effective to increase student?s scientific literacy capability.
