Multicultural education in Indonesia requires innovative approaches, especially in the face of the deepening challenges of globalisation. Digital technology offers great potential to enrich multicultural learning, yet its implementation in the context of Islamic education is still limited. This article aims to explore the integration of digital technology in multicultural learning at SMK Annuroniyah Sulang, and understand its impact on students' understanding of the values of cultural diversity. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The data obtained was analysed using a thematic analysis approach to explore patterns and significant findings. The results showed that the use of digital technology such as Google Classroom, WhatsApp, and social media enabled students to be more active in understanding and internalising multicultural values through creative projects based on local culture. The research also identified challenges such as infrastructure limitations and digital competency gaps among teachers. in conclusion, the integration of digital technology not only enriches students' learning experience, but also contributes to the development of technology-based multicultural education theory. The practical implication is the need for more intensive teacher training and improved digital infrastructure. Further research could explore comparative studies between other schools to broaden the understanding of the application of technology in multicultural education.

Abstract

This research explores community-based economic transformation through case studies of Pasar Yosomulyo Pelangi (Payungi) in Metro, Pasar Papringan in Temanggung, and Pasar Kamu in Deli Serdang. These three markets exemplify an alternative model of people-centered economic development grounded in the Pancadaya principles knowledge, sacrifice, movement, culture, and welfare—within a collective empowerment framework. The findings reveal that this approach not only enhances financial well-being but also fosters social solidarity, cultural revitalization, and ecological sustainability. Empowerment emerges through a praxis-based mechanism that integrates critical reflection and collective action, inspired by the emancipatory philosophies of Paulo Freire and Tan Malaka. In these market spaces, citizens act not only as economic agents but also as active learners and educators, cultivating agency, awareness, and alternative economic practices. Each site demonstrates localized strengths: Payungi excels in critical consciousness, transformative education, and multidimensional welfare; Papringan stands out for ecological awareness and innovative local currency systems; while Pasar Kamu contributes significantly to MSME empowerment and digital adaptation. This study contributes a novel theoretical framework Pancadaya Transformation for understanding community empowerment as an integrative process of economic, cultural, educational, and ecological development. It advances the discourse on alternative development by demonstrating how grassroots market spaces can function as educational arenas, cultural incubators, and engines of equitable growth. As such, Pancadaya offers a replicable, value-driven model for sustainable economic transformation rooted in local wisdom and participatory action, particularly relevant for the Indonesian context and other Global South settings.

Abstract

Many university instructors assess academic essay writing using general rubrics or borrowed instruments that do not align with specific course outcomes and learner profiles. This study was initiated to address this gap by developing a valid and reliable assessment instrument for academic essay writing among EFL university students, focusing on argumentative essays. The instrument was constructed systematically, involving needs analysis, expert validation, pilot testing, and statistical evaluation for reliability and validity. The trial was conducted with 6 students from the English Language Education Study Program, and their essays were rated by two trained raters. The results showed that the rubric successfully captured performance variation across six key writing components and allowed for consistent scoring with minimal discrepancies between raters. Expert validators confirmed that the rubric is clear, relevant, and aligned with academic essay writing expectations. Rater reliability analysis showed consistent inter-rater scores (score differences ≤1 point), indicating strong rubric usability. Based on these findings, this instrument offers a practical and theoretically grounded tool for assessing academic essay writing in EFL higher education settings.
