Abstract

AbstractInternational students were frequently reported of culture shock issues when entering a new cultural environment. Cultural knowledge was often treated as an addendum which focused on learning facts about the target country. This article demonstrated culture shock that experienced by 7 international students, and also reviewed intercultural communicative language teaching (ICLT) in Indonesian language classrooms practiced by 6 language practitioners from 3 different universities in China. Using findings that emerged from a series of one-to-one interviews, the research explored practitioners’ current perspective of ICLT and how these understandings influenced their practices, including teaching materials, methods, and activities. The researcher discussed the possible causes of the status quo of ICLT in China, and went on to put forward suggestions that ICLT should be promoted in foreign language teaching as a successful mediator of intercultural dimension.AbstrakMahasiswa internasional sering dilaporkan tentang masalah kejutan budaya ketika memasuki lingkungan budaya baru. Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by the limited availability of digital module teaching materials, especially in critical listening learning. This study aims to produce critical listening learning modules that are structured on the principles of systematic, active, contextual, technological, integrative (SAKTI). This principle is formulated by researchers from various critical listening learning theories and the development of teaching materials that are relevant to current needs. The digital teaching materials are arranged to contain materials, listening materials, exercises, and evaluations in one teaching material. The research was conducted by applying the research procedure proposed by Tomlinson in 2012. The module was developed using the Flip Pdf Professional Application Version 2.4.9.41, Quizzes, Canva, Google Form, Ms. Word, Dolby On, Nitro Pdf. The module consists of 3 main components, namely the introductory, core, and closing sections. This study uses R&D methods with stages Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, & Evaluations. Based on the results of product trials, it is known that the use of the designed product provides several advantages, among which it makes the learning process practical, can be used anywhere and at any time, helps guided or independent learning, helps online and offline learning, encourages students to actively complete each stage of learning and can be a means of obtaining new information for students.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the impact of collaboration between teachers and parents on enhancing students' critical reading abilities. It examines existing literature on the collaboration between teachers and parents in primary schools, particularly emphasizing critical reading proficiency. A systematic search was conducted across five databases using specific criteria to select studies for further analysis. The findings suggest that collaborative efforts between teachers and parents significantly contribute to advancing and diversifying students' critical reading skills. Various strategies can be employed to facilitate this collaboration. Moreover, teachers and parents alike must enhance their knowledge not only on methods to improve children's critical reading skills but also on understanding each other's perspectives and backgrounds. Further research is essential to grasp these factors comprehensively and to develop and assess the impact of parental or teacher beliefs on children's critical reading abilities. Notwithstanding the existing disparities, the outcomes of this review underscore the potential of teacher-parent collaboration in enriching children's critical reading capability.

Abstract

Efforts to preserve regional languages using a bilingual inheritance model are prioritized for language speakers themselves, especially the next generation who are starting to be exposed to globalization and therefore tend to forget regional languages and literature. If we look at the level of language threat, it starts from safe, vulnerable/unsafe, threatened, seriously threatened, threatened with extinction, even extinct or lost. In the Maluku area itself, it can be categorized as threatened to endangered. The inheritance model is carried out to pass on regional languages to the next generation as speakers of regional languages in order to save, preserve and transfer regional languages as heirs. This research aims to produce a model for the inheritance of bilingualism based on local culture in Maluku in the form of bilingual books and validate the feasibility of local culture-based folklore books for educational circles and the community in Maluku. The method used in this research is research and development (R&D). The model used in this research is a 4-D model (four-D model) which consists of 4 stages, namely (1) defining, (2) designing, (3) developing, and ( 4) disseminate (disseminate). The results of the material/content expert validation percentage were 93% (very valid), the language expert validation percentage was 93% (very valid) and the percentage of design experts was 95%. This shows that the product has passed the validation stage and is ready to be tested in the field because it meets the assessment criteria. After carrying out product trials, the following percentage results were found: (1) trial results. Small group student responses with an average value of 78.8%. The results of the student response analysis in the field trial were 94% (very practical) and the results of the teacher's response test in the field received a score of 79 (very practical).
