Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of supervision and training on employee work effectiveness with competence as a mediating variable at the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Nduga Regency. The approach used is explanatory quantitative with a saturated sampling technique involving all 85 BPBD employees. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire using a 1–5 Likert scale. Data analysis included validity and reliability tests, linear regression, path analysis, and Sobel's mediation test. The results showed that supervision and training had a positive and significant effect on employee competence. In addition, supervision, training, and competence had a significant effect on work effectiveness. Competence was found to significantly mediate the influence of supervision and training on work effectiveness. These findings indicate that strengthening supervision, improving the quality of training, and developing competence are strategic factors in improving the work effectiveness of BPBD employees in disaster-prone areas such as Nduga Regency. This study has important implications for policy makers in planning human resource development in the disaster management sector.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of peers, financial education, and financial literacy on the financial management practices of students at UNISKA MAB Banjarmasin. The research is based on the premise that the university years constitute a vital period for fostering financial independence. However, numerous students continue to lack the requisite skills for effective personal financial management. A quantitative methodology was adopted, with data collected via questionnaires administered to 150 respondents selected using the Slovin formula. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to assess the relationships among the variables. The results indicate that peer influence exerts a negative, yet significant, effect on students’ financial management, implying that interactions with peers exhibiting excessive consumption habits may diminish financial discipline. Conversely, both financial education and financial literacy demonstrate positive, significant effects, with financial literacy identified as the more influential predictor. The study concludes that enhancing financial education and literacy is imperative for improving students’ financial behavior and ensuring long-term financial stability.

Abstract

Degenerative diseases are often caused by exposure to free radicals, and antioxidants play an important role in maintaining body stability by counteracting them. Kelakai (Stenochlaena palustris), a typical plant of Kalimantan, contains bioactive compounds such as phenolics and flavonoids, making it a potential source of natural antioxidants. This study aims to determine the results of antioxidant activity tests on kelakai leaf kombucha. Kombucha was chosen because its antioxidant activity is influenced by the phenolic content formed during fermentation, potentially becoming an antioxidant-rich probiotic drink. The antioxidant activity test of kelakai leaf kombucha used the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results of determining the maximum absorption wavelength of 0.1 mM DPPH were at 515 nm with the highest absorption of 0.602. The antioxidant activity test using quercetin as a comparison resulted in an IC₅₀ value of 3.0892 ppm. This quercetin IC₅₀ value is included in the very strong category (<50 ppm). Meanwhile, the antioxidant activity test on kelakai leaf kombucha yielded an IC₅₀ value of 0.5845 ppm. This value also indicates that kelakai leaf kombucha has very strong antioxidant activity. Increasing sample concentration is directly proportional to the increase in antioxidant activity, as indicated by a decrease in the absorption value. Therefore, the development of kelakai leaf kombucha and testing its antioxidant activity are expected to produce innovative functional food products.

Abstract

This study examines culinary behavior among Generation Z in Bengkulu City by analyzing its associations with price perception, taste, restaurant location, social factors, and healthy lifestyle orientation. Employing an associative quantitative design, data were collected from 384 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The findings indicate positive associations between culinary behavior and the examined predictors, with restaurant location and social factors showing the strongest standardized contributions in the model. Price perception and taste also demonstrate meaningful associations, suggesting that economic evaluation and sensory satisfaction remain central considerations in culinary decision making. Healthy lifestyle orientation shows a smaller association; however, because the regression diagnostics indicate heteroscedasticity related to this predictor, statistical inferences for this variable should be interpreted cautiously. These results suggest that culinary consumption among the surveyed Generation Z respondents represents a socially embedded practice shaped by the interaction of practical, experiential, spatial, and social dimensions. The coexistence of fast food and traditional cuisine preferences further reflects the adaptive and hybrid nature of Generation Z consumption patterns in a mid-sized urban context. Because purposive sampling was used, the findings are not intended for probabilistic generalization to all Generation Z residents in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

Life expectancy (LE) is one indicator of development success, especially in the health sector. A healthy nation is characterized by a longer life expectancy. With increasing age, physiological changes will occur, especially in the elderly, and various health problems will arise (Berlian et al., 2022). The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) found the prevalence of hypertension in West Sumatra to be 24.1%. The highest prevalence of hypertension in West Sumatra was in Padang City, at 35.6%. Meanwhile, the lowest prevalence of hypertension was in West Pasaman Regency, at 19.8%. The 2022 Padang City health profile data shows an estimated number of hypertension sufferers aged 15 years and above, amounting to 165,555 people. The qualitative descriptive method used was observation, interviews, and documentation, with face-to-face meetings involving 25 participants. The program included blood pressure checks, outreach, material presentations, discussions, questions and answers, and pre- and post-test evaluations. Prior to the counseling session, blood pressure was checked and a pre-test questionnaire provided by the counselor was completed. Following the counseling session, participants' understanding significantly improved. This was evident in their post-test scores. Seventy-five percent of participants answered the post-test questions correctly.
