Abstract

Purpose – This paper discusses the diversity of boards and the performance of Islamic banks in three different conditions. Specifically, I will prove whether the diversity of the board is important for the performance of Islamic banks in normal conditions, turbulence, and recovery. Methodology – The data includes all Islamic and conventional commercial banks in Indonesia during 2018-2022. The research period is divided into normal, turbulent, and recovery conditions. The data were analyzed with a panel regression model. Findings – The results show that the level of board diversity in Islamic banks is lower than that of their conventional counterparts. In general, the level of board diversity is very important to encourage better bank performance. The effect of board diversity on performance is only significant in recovery conditions, but in times of turbulence, it is the opposite. In addition, I also find that diversity is most important for the BoD, while for the BoC it is the opposite. Novelty – This study is different from previous research. This study examines the factors of board diversity as a whole and focuses on board diversity as a whole. Therefore, this research will better reflect the actual conditions. Originality – This is the first paper to study the relationship between board diversity and bank performance in three conditions. It is also the first to compare the effects of diversity on Islamic banks with their conventional counterparts.

Abstract

Pidie Jaya Regency is one of the districts that contributes to capture fisheries production in Aceh Province. Pidie Jaya Harbor is the Fish Landing Base (PPI) in Meureudu. As capture fisheries activities developed at PPI Meureudu, the local government began to pay attention to building several port facilities such as basic facilities, functional facilities and supporting facilities. Supporting facilities or supporting facilities are facilities that support fishing activities at the port, one of these facilities is an ice factory. The ice factory at PPI Meureudu belongs to the Aceh marine and fisheries service which was built in 2012. The Aceh Development Fund (ADF) built an ice factory with a production capacity of up to 30 tons/day at the Meureudu Fish Landing Base (PPI), through an environmentally friendly technology program for industry fishing process. Under normal conditions, the PPI Meureudu ice factory is currently producing ice cubes in excess of fishermen's needs, so ice cubes are sold by fishermen operating in the Peulimbang and Peudada areas, Bireuen Regency. Sometimes, when the fish catch is abundant, ice is not enough to meet the ice needs for ships at PPI Meureudu and must be supplied from Sigli, Pidie Regency. This study aims to determine the need for ice in fishing and handling operations to the feasibility of the ice factory business at PPI Meureudu. This research was carried out for one month, namely in November 2022 at the Meureudu Fish Landing Base (PPI), Meureudu City, Kec. Meureudu, Pidie Jaya Regency. The data used in this study are primary data secondary data. using business feasibility analysis. The results showed that the need for ice blocks at PPI Meureudu for fishing operations within one month was 221.80 tons, and the need for ice for fish handling activities at PPI Meureudu within one month required the amount of ice to be 2,879 blocks of ice or 144,864 tons which is the result of the analysis financial value obtained from the NPV Rp. 95,761,105 can be said to be feasible because the value is greater than 0. At an IRR value of 5% it can be said to be feasible because the results of the IRR calculation are greater than the discount factor, and a Net B/C value of 1 is said to be a breakeven project because = 1. These three values have been carried out in the Meureudu PPI block ice factory business that business it is worth continuing. Keywords:Business FeasibilityIce Block FacilityPidie Jaya

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of minimum wages and the number of workers on unemployment in Indonesia in the perspective of Islamic economics for the period 2009-2023. This research takes place in Indonesia The research period is 15 years, namely 2018-2023, all data used is obtained from the official BPS website, This study employs a quantitative methodology. Explanatory research is the methodology employed in this study. The authors of this study employed Eviews 10 technologies to make data processing easier. A variation of VAR is the Vector Error Correction Model, or VECM. With the exception of stationarity issues, the same presumptions as VAR must be met. The data used in this analysis, which focuses on Indonesia from 2009 to 2023, was taken from the official BPS website. The study's goal was to ascertain how different variables affected the dependent variable, unemployment (Y), specifically the impact of independent variables, minimum wage (X1) and total labor (X2). The findings demonstrated that the minimum wage variable had a favorable impact on unemployment over the long run (coefficient value: 4.04E07), and over the short term (coefficient value: 3.57E-06). We can conclude that the minimum wage has a favorable impact on the unemployment rate both in the short and long run. Additionally, the number of employees has a long-term positive impact on unemployment (coefficient value: 0.486303), whilst the number of employees has a short-term negative impact (coefficient value: -0.021979) on unemployment in Indonesia. Therefore, it can be said that having more employees offers both short- and long-term benefits.

Rethinking The Feasibility of Pancasila as a Scientific Paradigm Taufiqurrahman, Taufiqurrahman

Abstract

Some academics and state officials in Indonesia argue for the adoption of Pancasila as a scientific paradigm for the country's scientific endeavours. They believe that using Pancasila as a foundation could give Indonesian science a distinct and unique character. However, this article seeks to reevaluate the feasibility of Pancasila as a scientific paradigm. By reviewing the literature on Pancasila and the philosophy of science, it arrives at the conclusion that Pancasila cannot serve as a scientific paradigm, either in a narrow or comprehensive sense. Two primary reasons support this conclusion. Firstly, Pancasila lacks the necessary characteristics of a well-established scientific achievement. As a result, it cannot function as a scientific paradigm in the narrow sense defined by Kuhn. Secondly, Pancasila carries theological baggage that surpasses science’s capacity to accommodate it. This aspect prevents Pancasila from becoming a comprehensive scientific paradigm. Consequently, I propose that Pancasila is more suitable as an axiological basis for science, rather than a scientific paradigm. Unlike a scientific paradigm, this axiological foundation does not fall within the epistemic scope of science.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of TikTok social media content as a learning medium in improving students' understanding of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects for grade X at SMK N 1 Batealit. The rapid growth of TikTok users in Indonesia, which will reach 157.6 million in 2024, and its potential as an interactive learning tool. The method used is quantitative with an experimental design Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design, involving 32 students as the experimental group (using TikTok) and 32 students as the control group (using textbooks). Data were collected through an understanding test and analyzed statistically with normality, homogeneity, and T-test tests. The results showed a significant increase in the experimental group, with an average posttest score of 92.03, much higher than the control group (77.34). In addition, the consistency of students' understanding in the experimental group was also better, indicated by a lower standard deviation (5,800) and a narrow range of values (80-100). Hypothesis testing confirmed that TikTok was statistically more effective in improving students' understanding (Sig. < 0.001). The conclusion of this study is that TikTok can be an effective learning medium for Islamic Religious Education, especially in attracting interest and improving students' understanding. The implication is that educators are advised to utilize digital platforms such as TikTok with relevant and educational content designs, in order to create more interactive learning that is in accordance with the characteristics of the digital generation.

Abstract

In Indonesia's growing beauty industry, online reviews and online ratings are critical in shaping consumer purchase decisions. Local beauty brands like Somethinc leverage eWOM to build trust, while the Korean Wave (Hallyu) influences consumer preferences. This study explores the impact of online reviews and online ratings on Somethinc product purchases, with the Korean Wave as a moderating factor. This study designed using a quantitative research design, data was collected via structured questionnaires, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results reveal that online ratings significantly influence purchase decisions, while online reviews show a weaker effect. The Korean Wave moderates the relationship between online ratings and purchase decisions, enhancing their effect, but has a negative moderating effect on online reviews. These results suggest that local beauty brands like Somethinc can benefit from aligning their marketing strategies with global cultural trends, especially those related to Korean beauty standards.

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia in Indonesian adolescent girls reaches 15.5%. Blood supplement tablets are still not accepted by young women. This study was conducted to evaluate the acceptability and iron content of Keloreal. An experimental method was applied, utilizing a hedonic scale to assess attributes of taste, aroma, color, and texture, and the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method to determine iron content in the best formula. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The MS0 formulation received the highest overall hedonic scores. However, among the two treatment formulations, MS2 was more acceptable to the panelists due to its milder bitterness and less prominent moringa flavor, leading to better acceptance compared to MS1.  Iron levels measured using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method were 0.0596 mg/g for the MS2 formulation and 0.0756 mg/g for the control (MS0). Despite the lower iron concentration, MS2 is considered a potential alternative snack due to its elevated levels of complementary micronutrients that play a synergistic role in supporting iron metabolism and erythropoiesis.
